Pat Robertson: Being Trans Is Not a Sin

This is quite surprising, from a man who has repeatedly condemned homosexuality and has said many bigoted and irrational things over the years. Based on his track record, I'm not willing to take this at face value, but I suppose its better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I am shocked to disbelief! To read those words from Pat Robertson leaves me flabbergasted. Unless otherwise proven however, I will not "look a gift horse in the mouth".

One thing that I did note that Pat Robertson said, he mentioned that "...somebody who just says, 'Well, I'm really a woman.' I question the validity of that statement. You don't count somebody as female unless they really are.” While I understand that there are those rare exceptions whereby someone might claim themselves to be female and yet aren't, it does seem that he speaks from a lack of knowledge of the fact that everyone who acknowledges themselves as female does so before they make their transition and even then of course not all will opt for complete transition in terms of GRS. Some ways to go with understanding us from society, still, I give credit where credit is due. I say; kudos to Pat!

Have to say I'm surprised . I think the angst against gays and lesbians is that many think all they're interested in is sex. That's a very narrow minded and untrue premise. Many people in TGLB diaspora hard working and productive people who pay their taxes and deserve the same rights as everyone else.

The great benefit here is that it shows a crack in the positions of radical right wing religious extremists against trans people. Many radical right wing religious extremists I've met quite often appeal to authority, particularly on matters "religious". Now when someone quotes anti-trans Jeff Fischer, we can point to Pat Robertson as a counter opinion, demonstrating there is no universal agreement on the right about trans people.

Wow. And this from the man who says that natural disasters are God's revenge for the sin of homosexuality. Maybe he is finally seeing the light. I really don't know how to take this but there is always hope.

My hope is that this opens roads to reconciliation and healing for religiously conservative families that have rejected trans family members. That would be the real blessing in this.

That would be awesome, and I do know people can change. It's not like I'm going back to my old life...ever. So having relatives that don't block me on facebook would be an improvement.
