They say the camera never lies

I've never been good at poetry, but I needed to vent today and this happened.

They said the camera never lies

But the truth is it does.

That camera created images, memories

So you could look back and smile at a little girl

With her long blonde locks and pretty dresses.

You see those pictures and smile

‘my little girl’ oh how sweet.

Yet I see them and feel nothing

For they are not of me.

That smile? You said it… ‘smile!’

One click later it falters.

You see that child bears a secret

One the camera doesn’t disclose.

A little later the camera gives clues

Signs of a child lost and confused.

The short hair, the sport, the dirty knees.

The rebellion begins! but the other kids tease.

And there, even then I knew things weren't right

I hated dresses, skirts, long hair and tights.

I tried hard to show you that that wasn't me

But to you I was a girl, and a girl I should be.

You said I'd grow out of it...

It's 'just a phase'

A phase it is not

nor a fad, or a craze.

I'm not a girl...

I'm a boy you see.

Puberty hit, the depression peaked

This body it's alien, it's just not me.

I need to become the person I know is me

A boy, A man, I need to be free.

Yet I’m scared. I'm so scared

Scared of breaking your heart,

Of telling you that the girl in the photos,

was just playing a part.

Well the show is over, no more lies

Because I know now who I am inside.

The camera lied

And yes so did I.

But they say the truth hurts

And this time they’re right.

That is quite moving. Perhaps even more so because of the loss of a dear FTM friend who i had known for over 40 years. He was such a cute kid and became a handsome man. He hated any reference to those times. I wish he could have accepted that part of his life as well but he left before finding that acceptance and the self love that comes with it.

Hugs with a tear,

Charlie

The only photos of me in a dress are from when I couldn't argue my way out of them! But in seriousness, it strikes a chord with me too. Very nice.

hi Ro,

<<< hug >>>

I think you have discovered that you have a gift in poetry

As for your pain , it will pass , as you become that which you are

Never let anyone define you

For they know not you
