LA Fitness Allegedly Barred TS Woman From Locker Room

If true, the actions of LA Fitness staff appear to violate California law. Looks like some training is in order. The woman indicates that she had GRS, which would negate any of the usual locker room controversy.

If this is true, I dont see where LA Fitness has much of a legal case.

I would like to know what the heck this means...

"She is a transgender woman looking for workout advice catered to her needs."

Sounds like a round-a-bout way to say "We don't serve her kind here." :(

I suspect she was trying to find exercises to feminize her body, rather than bulk up as a man would.

But according to the story, she outed herself saying she is a transgender woman looking for workout advice catered to her needs. I've never heard of any changes to exercises for pre or post-ops. I just wonder what kind of specialized training she was looking for? Maybe building more hips or something? Just never came across it.

This branch of L.A. Fitness is pretty close to a number of Christian colleges and employs some of their students. Nuff said.

Carolyn I think has hit the meaning very well of what the girl was looking for, exercises that would shape her body and not bulk it up. I would probably have asked for exercise help by describing it in simple female terms and left off the TG nature of my body. We all have days when the air up in our sinuses is a little low on partial oxygen pressure though.

Outing herself should have absolutely nothing to do with her access to the fitness center.

If you search YouTube, you can find lots of exercises aimed at building a healthier but female body. A few have even been linked in our exercise and diet forum, for building hip, leg, buttocks, and for toning the mid-section.

I think Sarah summarized it completely correctly - they don't want her there just because of who she is.

Excuse me but she is a female - what grounds are they blocking her on? Her drivers license says so. Do we get to pick and choose which people of our gender get to use our locker rooms, if so there are a lot of people I am uncomfortable with because they are pigs.

LAF had better start groveling pretty aggressively or they will be writing a check to this young lady in my opinion. They have no grounds whatsoever to bar her.

Let the barristers begin! :superman:

The comments are amazing. How ugly stupid can some men be? Oh yeah the ones that spit chew on the restroom wall, pee on the seat and the floor. blow luges on the stall walls, while writing stupidity on them. Gee, it's been so long ago I have been in a men's room I nearly forgot. Thank you God, for the ladies room. I can't hug, I just grossed myself out. Giggle. Jody

In the article it appears she is post-op. If so I believe she has a valid case of being discriminated against and should sue. If she was pre-op, I would have a different opinion. I'm pre-op, and the way things are going at my job I may not be able to get surgery. But I do not believe I should use a woman's locker room to shower until I have the right body parts. Restrooms are a different story.

Jen, I agree with you, and would have expected her to ask for some privacy considerations if she was in fact pre-op. However, California law was changed a year ago (might have been two) and protects the right of TG persons to use the gender-appropriate facility, and does not require GRS or any other "proof." Common sense should always prevail, but in this case, she was denied the use of the changing room, period. LAF staff were either ignorant of the law, or spiteful of it, and will likely pay the price.

Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. These are my go-tos for those times.    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQD51FSH?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details   Funny thing is that Reebok mens briefs look more like panties than Reebok women's hipsters (which are also one of my favs. Vanity Fair Body Caress Hi Cuts being my absolute favorites).    -Timi

Happiness is singing this song with my wife in the morning over coffee on our 30th anniversary. Desperately trying not to dilute the coffee with my tears.

Good afternoon everyone,    I hope you’re having a wonderful day. @Birdie I love the good morning picture. I have an open door policy for coffee.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I threw away most of my male ones, kept a few just in case (Dr appts etc). I had almost thrown those away to until this issue came back up again. Perhaps your right, over time hopefully I'll get more used to it. Having to switch back to regular male undies made me sad. I think going up a size may help to. It's not always sore, only when I wear them for long stretches. I don't feel myself in male undies. Thank you for the advice

Over time, the stress continues to lessen -- as well as the euphoria that accompanied my coming out and beginning HRT. And as those milestones recede in the rearview mirror, it has allowed me to feel much more normal,  and to find my own expression of "non-binaryness".  My clothes closet is probably 80% female items, and will likely stay that way for the forseeable future. Were I young, I doubtlessly would find a different expression, but at 75 I am happy with what I achieved.   Another +1 to what @KathyLauren said regarding the worrisome and hateful behavior that we are witnessing. I can hope that this cycle will diminish over time, but to aid in that, each of us and millions of cis voters need to be involved in local as well as state/provincial, and national elections.    Kind regards,   Astrid

These work well to keep the bits in place without too much discomfort. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=menstral+panties&crid=3A0T4KFOGDZW3&sprefix=menstral+panties%2Caps%2C89&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Going to a bigger size might help. I'm wearing high cut panties every day now - threw out all my male underwear - and ended going up a size just for the abrasion issue. I think that wearing them all the time has helped me "acclimate" as well.

Currently the material is stretch cotton bikini with no tucking. I've even tried to stretch out the front to create a pouch. Unfortunately I've only had limited success with that.  I'm considering trying a bigger size..maybe that'll help. Thank you for the input

Maddee, that makes me so happy for you!   I, too, am grateful for what I've learned about myself and for how far I've come in this past 1.5 years.
