A sweet unexpected pass

Every Tues i go to a 12 step program where old timers have known me as male and have seen and supported me through transition. Last night i had the fortune to great a young woman in the program who i could welcome. She was quite attractive and had only 22 days of sobriety and part of that was in a rehab program. We chatted for almost a half an hour and then she sat righter behind me through the meeting with a group of other women who accept and love me. At the end of the meeting we talked again. She asked about where i lived and then asked what other meetings i attended. I told her i went to a Fri. GLBT meeting in Princeton. She responded that she has a lesbian friend who was going to take her to another local GLBT meeting and wondered if she could go as a straight woman. I explained that she would be accepted but sometimes the discussion might center around addiction and GLBT issues. Nice talk. I'm sure i have a new friend in the rooms who i hope to know better over the years. The wonderful pass….. It came to me later……she saw me as a lesbian. The T in GLBT she doesn't even understand. Hopefully she will continue to become a friend when i explain what the T stands for.

Thanks for sharing your story, Charlie. She does sound like a very nice woman. There is no reason I can think of that you wouldn't pass just fine. I'm glad you found a new friend.

Beautiful Charlie. those unexpected validations are sweetest of all. I am willing to bet she will be more than happy to continue to be your friend even if she turns out to need a little educating when the T in LGBT is revealed.
