Alternative clothes for guys?

I like slightly different styles of clothing. Stuff that have a goth or punk style. What I want to know is if there's anyway to pull this off well as a transguy? I don't want to look to feminine, although I don't mind an androgynous look. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i don't know a lot about punk or goth clothing but pants are pants. if you prefer skinny pants...where em. if you prefer baggy pants...where em. no with tops, that is a different story. you will want something that maybe is on the tight side but can hold it's shape. so that you don't don't look frumpy but that your hips don't show. it can be a hard balance to find. also...don't be afraid to where things that fit tight to your body do. cisguys do...we just need to hide our hips. where shirts with shoulder details...it will make them appear bigger and therefore more masculine. dark colors tend to hide curves and other things better. which is good for the goth and punk look. but don't be afraid to throw in some color to distract the eye from areas you don't want focused on. even if it is just red or yellow. it doesn't have to be pink and purple to be colorful ;)

that is about all the advice i can give without some more detail on your preferences. good luck!

In this uber conservative area where bib overalls are still common I get away with a slightly alternative vibe with no problem. Even had a couple of guys -decades younger than I am -say "'Cool shirt" or "Like your shirt man" and am never misgendered except by a couple of locals who watched the transition and just can't adjust. Tthe advise to be who you are is right on the mark. I do tone down a bit but it's more because of my age than gender. I wear my Demonia boots for instance but under my pants rather than tucking my pants into them. Attitude and confidence are what will make the difference a lot more than clothes. Here is a link to a gallery page that shows some of what I wear -though these were all hiking. In winter I wear a black leather coat or a black leather jacket. Because that is what I like and this whole thing was about being me and not trying to be something different and please the world anymore.

Wow, you look really cool! Confidence is not always my forte, but I'm improving. And I love Demonia boots, though I've got a pair of New Rock myself.

while i dont know how old you are or now people will percive it in England but where i grew up if your into music and that style you can never go wrong with jean or leather jacket and patches utill about the mid twenties. you may seem to have yourself figured and likewise draw less suspicion in terms of identity. especially if your willing to the boots and all black. idk if you considered this but would also say to avoid tight pants even tho punks tend to wear them it could end being a dead giveaway. hope that helps

sincerely,

Annah

Like several people have said, tight pants aren't going to be your friend. I'd recommend looking for guy jeans in dark blues or blacks (perhaps faded or frayed, [although I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of intentionally distressed jeans]) probably cut to fit in more of a straight style (relaxed fits will probably be too lose for your tastes if you're looking to fit in with the goth crowd). I'd also recommend looking for thin hoodies in darker colors which can be worn through the fall, winter, and early spring without much difficulty.

The goth accessory of choice has always been the piercing (often strange piercings- ears are less done). If you have a tongue, lip, or eyebrow piercing, etc. (which I will warn you are a huge turn off for many girls- myself included lol) that can help you fit in with that crowd. In terms of anything metal, silver/chrome/grey is usually better than a gold or coppery color.

I honestly don't really have any idea about guys shoes. You're on your own there.

Assuming you're going out and doing stuff in this, it's also important to think about how to carry stuff (i.e. money). A dark leather wallet should work well for most situations (most guys use the back pocket of their jeans, which should help distort the shape of the female hips a little), or as a default, just in your pants pocket. It might seem obvious, but even a vaguely feminine pocketbook will get you clocked immediately.

Erm, yup. Good luck.
