New Poll: Majority supports ENDA as written

Sixty-six percent of Americans polled believe workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation should be illegal, with respondents between the ages of 18 and 29 demonstrating highest support for these protections according to a new poll.
The effort to ban discrimination on the basis of gender identity, an issue transgender Americans face with overwhelming regularity, sees less public support among the general public, with only 56 percent of respondents favoring the protections outlined in the current version of ENDA.
In politics a 56-44 percent margin of victory is called a "landslide" and a "mandate" such as when Reagan beat Carter. :)

Unfortunately, members of Congress don't have to concern themselves with national polls. They are only concerned with the majority of voters in their gerrymandered districts. That's why Congress is paralyzed, and why the "national good" is no longer relevant. The goal of nearly every politician is not to help people or even do a good job. The goal is to get reelected. Period. As long as that is the case, ENDA and much else that's important will only be approved on rare occasion.

I'm trying to find how the question was asked as they're sometimes leading but for some reason, this one isn't working like all the others. The company does these snapshots Of congress and the WH a few times a month.

Many more people support people not being fired because of race or gender than support specific laws to protect people getting fired for race or gender. The question asked is important. Did they say "Do you support ENDA without T inclusions?"

"Do you support it with T?"

Why doesn't our government respond to what the majority wants?

An example of the people this company polls...the previous week they asked two questions which both scored at least 75% support.

-Creating jobs by cutting taxes and reducing federal regulations.

-Creating jobs by increasing federal spending on infrastructure projects like roads and bridges

At the same time, another landslide in the same survey the very same people the very same week supported:

Reducing the federal deficit, even if that means raising taxes and cutting spending

So raise taxes and cut taxes to lower the deficit by cutting spending with the proven process of increasing spending on our unsafe infrastructure that will have reduced Federal Regulations.

Why does nothing get accomplished in this country? Maybe it's time to realize the voters get exactly who they deserve.

One of my friends on facebook has said that Enda is going to make it worse foe us instead of better. How is that?

Right now, and employer can fire me with impunity, as it is legal to do so here in Missouri, ditto with me renting an apartment with background checks that doubtless disclosed my history when I rented here a few months ago. I tend to greatly overachieve at my job and so on. It's a classic defense mechanism of LGBT people. It's a mild form of discrimination in that I try to do a superior job at my job to retain it. I have an ultra-critical job, it's actually low stress but highly trained (read Joe Schmo public hasn't got a chance at filling the position.)

If I -was- in a protected class, then they could not fire me with impunity solely due to my sex change, therefore they would double or triple scrutinize my skill set, and be less likely to hire me in the first place. Again one has to go back to the overachiever defense. Overall, I don't think it makes a lot of difference one way or the other. I am moving to Minnesota where there is GLBT protection, and I don't expect to find much difference there, I should be able to cozy right into a similar position to what I have when an opening comes up. Heh I even though about applying at a Catholic hospital, that would be interesting, and a 1 mile walk commute. I do not know if Minnesota's protections extend to a quasi religious setting such as this hospital, but I'm not going to flinch to apply, they may indeed be perturbed if I marry a woman. For that reason I do and would support ENDA with a very very narrow set of exemptions(as in church discrimination is fine, but not, for example, said hospital.)

Good morning and congratulations @MirandaBon getting your ears pierced. This opens up a new line of jewelry to buy and collect.    @KymmieLits ashamed that any employee would ever to post a sign like this.    Well Parker Von Schwinegruber not only got me up early, we enjoyed our first cup of coffee on the patio before the sun was up. Oh it was daylight but just barely. The second cup of coffee was in the recliner, and now I’m pinned here and need someone to pour my third cup.    It’s a dog’s life… Eat, play, go potty and sleep. Trump-linked dark-money group spent $90m on racist and transphobic ads in 2022, records show. Citizens for Sanity was one of top political spenders last election cycle and is back for 2024 with more extreme messaging, https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/may/17/trump-citizens-sanity-election-ads

I adore the Bee Gees. There's no way that I could link all their great songs in the above post. To me though, this song of theirs is head and shoulders above everything else:

My long hair is the single most important physical feature of my body which confirms the presence of my inner woman.   That said @SS, I am the 'other' sort of bi-gender. I am of the simultaneous type. I do not flip-flop between girl days and boy days either mentally or through presentation. For me, I am both primary genders at the same time, and the compromise is made through an androgynous presentation. When I look in the mirror, I can see either, but I am happy to admit that when I see a woman, I am happier.

Quite unexpected!   I had my weekly conversation with my father last night and he mentioned something he did that caught me totally off guard.  He was browsing garage sales and came across a nice blond wig, he decided to buy it and his wife was quite perplexed he said.  They had a dinner date with a couple that are friends since high school, and my father went dressed as a woman (with his wife's assistance). He said he did it as a "joke", but spent the entire evening dressed.

Thank you! So do I! Although I'm proud of what it portrays, I don't wear it often because I think it could be taken as being a bit provocative. One part of me says look at me, I'm proud to be on the rainbow and the other part says pull your head in, you're asking for trouble.   I do have a more subtle pride t-shirt that I visibly wear more often, here is a representation of it: "Moon phase rainbow" V-Neck T-Shirt by secretmagic | Redbubble
