so mum was relaxing my hair yesterday (chemically straighting it)

and she brought up the trans topic.

she said have a good look at a mans body and write down what you like and also write what you dont like about your body, pros and cons

also she said the videos and weblinks i sent her was interesting and helped her understand a bit more

all in all i think she is just worried she said u may be a man but you cant change your birth certificate to male. (is that true) and because of that she didnt want any job opportunities to go down the pan.

bascially just seems like shes a worried mother but im happy that 1) she brang it up and wanted to talk about it 2) is maybe getting used to the idea and a little open and 3) i was calm the whole time and let her speak!

Leo, That sounds very promising.

I think that she is beginning to understand what you are going through and as a mother she wants the best for you.

I'm not sure about BirthCertificates in the UK, so I can't help you there, but I'm sure someone will come along with the answer for you.

I'm so happy that she is beginning to discuss it with you,

Love ya,

Sally

Oh, Leo....

Good for you! Certainly a step in the right direction for you. Even if she understands the mechanics of your condition...she's still a mother and worries about you...so give her room to breathe and take it slow and you may be supprised at what happens....we can hope for the best, Hon!

Nice step forward, Leo....nice......

Hey Leo, i was born in the UK, in order to obtain a correct birth certificate you just have to show proof you have been living as male for 2 years. But you can change your passport and other ID before that, with a letter from a therapist.

This site has the legal information:

Good luck

Look, Leo!

One of our Canadian friends has come through for you, isn't international cooperation wonderful?

Don't you wish all of the world could work together across national boundaries and help each other like we do?

There you go, you've got the website - start reading!

Love ya,

Sally

WOO HOO to leo!

Yeah, I read in another persons post you need to live full time male/female for two years to get it changed. You don't need SRS for that even.

I knew you were a tough guy. After the car was ripped off you were still O.K.

Now that you have the good new from MOM you're even tougher

Congrats on your moms thoughtfulness and clever way of helping you.....Mia B)

Yes Leo Rory is right about name change, you go to a commissioner for oaths or solicitor, with the dead poll forms to change your name when you feel you are ready, anyone can do that also, once you have your dead poll you can then apply to the DVLC with a Therapist/Gender Psychiatrist letter of confirmation, and a letter from you to change your driving license name, then after the two years you can then apply to the GRP with the appropriate forms for a new birth certificate, once got the DVLC will change the gender on your license too, if like Me you have any medical reason for having no surgery you have to live in the desired Gender for six years, the passport requires a new birth certificate to be able to apply, that's what the passport office told Me when I rang them to find out, but because I can't have surgery I was advised against it, or I could have problems leaving or entering a country, because of the not having any surgery, that's for MTF not sure about FTM though, ring the GRP they will advise you, they are extremely nice folks to talk to, and will give you any info that you are not too sure about, and guide you along the way.

Christine-Louise I just wanted to ask, are you saying you haven't been able to obtain correct your passport yet?

If so I would suggest trying again ( if it's something that you want) because I had mine amended as soon as I received my dead poll. I just filled out the application (marked male), sent the dead poll and a therapist letter saying it was important for my passport to match my gender. A month later I had the new passport. I haven't got a driving license yet but I'm certain the same thing applies, otherwise how can they expect you to live as your appropriate gender. Also when you do later apply to the GRP you can supply both passport and license as the evidence they require. Hope this helps you out.

And happy that you're okay after all that's been going on. Gosh, I get sick for 2 weeks and come back to mayhem!
