Wig Help

I am looking to buy a wig online. Not quite ready to go into a wig shop yet. Does anyone here know of a good website that sells good quality wigs at a reasonable price? I've checked ebay and it looks like China has flooded the market in wigs. Would like to stay in the states for my purchase. Looking at a price range no more than $40.00. It is my first wig. Thanks girls.

Hi Suzie...even if you buy it in the states it's probably made in China. If you just want a 'do' mail-order is ok...if you want to KNOW what you really look like take that add 10.00 for shipping and 30-50 more for 'wiggle room' and go shopping. You will spend a lot more than you think in shipping 'n shopping for things you don't even like and that you might think you would like but never saw how awful it was till it was there. Find a picture of somebody a GREAT style cut...with a head shape as yours...and gooooo shopping. There is no better way, you will be lucky...otherwise it will be wasting your $$$. Of course you might grow your hair a little at a time and keep it styled...THAT'S even beter Kelly Ann

Thanks Kelly. I do know that I look good as a blond so that is what I will be looking for. There are several wig shops in my area that cater to the transgender, I'm just going to have to take that plunge and go for it.

Go to a real wig shop - buy a wig that looks good - fits -and is in your budget. the owner or clerk (usually an owner) wants to make money - you want to spend it - a match! Tell them you are transsexual or something - and need a wig while waiting for your hair to grow out.

I AM SERIOUS! there will be no problem - I have done it before.

Since I am not ready business-wise to go full time yet and my hair is already sholder length After having it cut very short in August, it should be long enough to just style it, I hope.

Well went to the wig shop and walked out. The women in there were cancer victims and I felt kinda bad. So grabbed a biz card and walked out. Will call and set up an appointment... Mia

Oh Mia! What a terrible thing. You did right not to interfer with that type of tragedy.

Try going early in the morning when they first open up and scout out the place. The shop I used was run by a Chinese lady. She was the owner and was glad to see a customer, and made several good recommendations. The appointment idea might also be very good.

While you are in there, and if it is before or after hours, (if you have the money) it would be really nice to look at all the options and perhaps select several wigs , as you would have that option. Be sure to ask about how to care for them and what accessories you might need.

Our days of rushing in somewhere and buying something quickly before attracting attention? Those days should be over. We need to have respect as human beings. Attitude, my girlfriend, is an amazing thing. I even use it in cosmetics stores now, with common sense of course, and it works like a charm.

Mia, I am sorry you left the wig shop. I think the women in there, the cancer survivors, would have appreciated your input and help in choosing their wigs. And I bet they would have enjoyed helping you find one for yourself. Things like that make a difference and human interaction like that can take everyone's mind off their difficulties. I speak as a cancer survivor myself.

Sorry - my reaction is to not intrude. My wife's therapist is on chemo - just out of intensive care -having real problems now - and I am having a reaction to that I suppose - I am not really stable on that at all - perhaps interaction in the wig shop is good - I would have tried to respect the privacy of the moment. A man in a wig shop might NOT be what a woman fighting for survivial might want to face at that particular time. I am a coward with Cancer as my aunt and grandfather were Non-hodgekinson's Limphoma victims - too much baggage - and I flee - Darn, so bad of me...please forgive, Liz

Your response is fine and it's honest for you.

Just remember, you were not a man in a wig shop, you were a woman in a wig shop. The genetic women, I am betting, would have understood and welcomed you. Cancer can be isolating, so is being transgendered. In my head I just see all of you trying on wigs and having a good time.

I'm not sure what I'm trying to say. Be gentle.

Funny you should say 'Be gentle." I know it was in another context, but I was describing something the other day about being a woman now, and I said it's somewhat like being a man, but softer. 'Be gentle" is such a wonderful thought.

And thank you for undertanding, and I understand the idea of Cancer being so isolated, like people flee from you - afraid it is contageous. I was still wrong - still apologise, I don't know what I was thinking.
