so i went doc's today

found out i was sickle cell trait :( not to good but will not affect me to much i hope

but i asked if she had received my mental health report.

well my doctor had got some kind of report but she wasnt sure if was enough for her to refer me to the gender clinic in london!

shes new to all this so i gave her some infomation i got off the internet and she was inpressed

so what she is going to do, is check the report is enough, if not she will send me back for a full proper one, but if it is she will refer me!!

i have to ring her back in a weeks time to see how things have gone!

just the waiting game again but at least she is willing to refer me!

i just hope the report is enough

oh, I'm sorry to hear about your sickle cell trait. But I'm really glad to hear you have a doctor who will refer you to the gender clinic. Waiting is so hard, though! Good luck!

Sickle cell isn't really good - but you said 'trait?' Hope it never develops. My wife is Sicilian and has something like that - thalisemia (sp?) where her blood cells are too small to properly work, sickle cell has 'c' shaped platelets - sorta the same problem.. It is probably your heritage (as you know - duh) but did you know many geneticists suspect it is a survival trait for people in the marshy areas of the Mediteranian Ocean areas? Blood platelets too small or in the wrong shape are immune to the Malaria parasites. So those with those conditions survive to pass down the trait to their descendants. We are SOOOO much chained to our genetics. I am a white woman (notice my use of pronouns) but I have a common African-American blood type - 'A' negative. I found out it's my mixed blood from WAY back - Melugeon - look that one up - a group of Native American Indian, with all sortsa mix from ship wrecked sailors on the Atlantic Coast of America (so it is suspected.)

But the GOOD NEWS - you may get your referral - KEEP US POSTED.

OMG, Leo !

I read this earlier and I just noticed that I never told you how happy I was that you are on your way to a refferal!

As to the Sickle Cell trait it is not much of a problem for most, but it is passed on from generation to generation and sometimes one ends up with Sickel Cell Anemia and that is more of a problem, the trait just means that you carry the right attributes for the Anemia but doesn't mean that you will ever have it.

Love ya,

Sally

Hey bro - it's nice to see your progression. I hope the good news can overweigh the bad news we get from you.

I don't know about this trait but Sally seems to know. I'm sorry you have it but I'm happy it's not any worse.

Oh and...

WOO HOO leo!

I'm so happy things are progressing for you!!! And when you have research to back yourself, you'll always do better! Hope the report is enough and that you'll be referred soon!

Thanks Davie! And don’t worry, I didn’t take it that way. It’s just such a big topic I can only hope to tackle it one bit at a time.

This is not uncommon.  I started out going to the therapist in androgynous clothing: from the women's department, but plausibly masculine.  What made it easier was when I started going to a trans peer support group.  Most of the people there were presenting fully feminine, so I looked out of place in my androgynous clothing.  The peer pressure made it easier to dress in skirts.   I started out changing in a gender-neutral bathroom near the meeting room.  But I soon started wearing skirts in the car to and from the meetings.   Yes, it was nerve-wracking at first, but I soon realized that no one was looking and no one cared.    You can do this.

In my last session my therapist is starting to suggest that I need to start exploring my gender identity in a more tangible way through wearing feminine clothing at least during sessions.  I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around her seeing me actually en femme.   I love and trust her, but the thought of being visibly feminine is scaring (and thrilling) me.  Is this a common thing in gender therapy?  How do I get past the fear?  More importantly, what should I wear?

I felt the urge to date and felt just like a teenager again. I have recorded my journal titled Ashley's Life From Start to Present. I was very moody and agitated and happy. I think it was my body's way of being in shock. After about two months it got better. Remember that you aren't the only one transitioning because your wife is too. Consider yourself lucky because I lost mine because of it and so have many others. Just enjoy the ride.

I'm sorry for asking so many questions about your situation. I'm in your camp and believe you should be able to be whoever you feel you need to be. I guess it the Union Shop Stewart coming out in me. I want you to be treated fairly as well as respectably. You're human, you're a client of theirs. Especially if you're paying money to be there.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Views, terminology, and aspects of how events came to be....aren't those directly related to the news item?  If not, I'm rather confused.
