I am also lucky to be where i am and to have a little income from the farm and investments to keep my head above water. We have many older trans folks here at Laura's and many are having a hard time to be sure. We have a long way to go but at least we are going. It's hard enough to get older and feel the old bones hurting. Throw in the trans issues and it gets rough. There are so many older trans folks finally able or feeling they have to change. A bit of the bucket list perhaps.

There was a study ongoing at Pride StL last year, a rather long questionaire surveying senior LGBT people on all sorts of living and community issues in retirement. I don't really want a "special" or isolated retirement, but as I've said before, there is a lot of work between my Midwestern day to day living and retired in Hawaii.

It's an article I was nearly afraid to read. Having been tossed aside by the mainstream healthcare community, and nearly tossed into early retirement, the issues facing older TG's are much more real. I am lucky that I'm healthier than many younger people, and probably have a job for another 4 years.

And it is self-serving that I'm becoming active in the political arena to try to change healthcare policy. Maybe if I ever retire, we'll have a better chance than now...
