Old Makeup WARNING

I just got in from an Urgent Care appointment at my medical center, this after having had a regular visit with my primary care doctor yesterday. I woke up this morning looking like someone had slugged me in the right eye but there was only red, tender skin and no swelling to speak of, just red very dry skin.

I did not even need to see the actual doctor, the RNP who screened me knew what was going on immediately, she just wondered why a woman as old as I am who supposedly had been wearing makeup for decades did not realize the problem. It is a very mild fungus infection from some old makeup I had put on yesterday. I had run out of my favorite color of eye shadow yesterday, and had replaced it with a similar color that I had not used for about a year. The package was open and in the bathroom where things can get humid. No problem with my eyeballs themselves, but the lid is a bit painful to touch. I did wear foundation when I went out for a bit after the medical appointment, but have cleaned it off now that I am back at the house for a few hours and have the salve on that was recommended, but boy am I ugly and splotchy at the minute. I look worse than He ever did, but even this early in the game, the stuff is healing.!! It never came up that I was Trans*!!

Thanks for the heads up. I have often been tempted or have used makeup purchased years ago when i was first trying it on. I had a girlfriend who warned me to change my mascara earlier rather than later but i hadn't thought about shadow. Hope you heal up soon and get that pretty look back. i'm always learning something! I guess many of us got a late start.

Hugs,

Charlie

I hope it clears up as it should Vicky!

It is a point to us all. I know I make a point of cleaning all my brushes every Saturday but when I think, I know I have makeup that has not been used for some time.

One example:

I tend to use clear mascara daily and, as the container is also clear, I have noticed that it gets cloudy after a while. At this point it is obviously getting contaminated at least - or worse. I can see when to bin it! Other things are not easy to notice.

Thank you for the post (warning)

That is a really good thing to know, Vicky. Thank you for the heads up. I have some old stuff laying around, and I think I'll get rid of it. I soak my brushes in alcohol at least once ever 10 days, because I know bacteria can accumulate there.

I hope you heal fast, and while you might be blotchy for a bit, you are never ugly, my friend. :)

HUGS

I've been warned. Thank you Vicky, My garbage can got fed today with some old stuff. I won't miss the old stuff and I'll be healthier for pitching it. Take it easy Vicky, the splotches will go away soon. Kathy

So, that begs the question... do they make small sizes of makeup for those of us who only wear it once or twice a year? Everything I have is nearly two years old and not even close to running out.
