Law Would Protect Bullying of LGBT Students

Having been involved in a couple of fist fights over theological issues in the parking lot of my own church as a young teen, I think we will be able to find blood stains in new places. The two fights I got involved in were with members of my own church!! One of them was the Preacher's brat!! The term "Church Militant" took on a different meaning,

I'm very easy-going and self-controlled, but I'm finding in my old age that the turbo-Christians are getting me fired up. They don't affect me personally, but I really hate what they're doing to kids.

I would never argue matters of faith with anyone, but tactics are another matter.

I hope that just once before I die I have a chance to debate one of those Bible parrots face-to-face. Facts, knowledge and 72 years of personal experience versus opinion, misinformation and prejudice? I'll eviscerate him (or her).

excuse my launguage, but WHAT THE <harsh swear word> IS THEIR PROBLEM!! ITS BAD ENOUGH IT IS LEGAL IN THE FIRST PLACE TO BULLY US, BUT TO ENCOURAGE it?!?!

Seriously, i want to see that governer dead, im sorry of how horrible a thing it is to say to wish anyone to be dead, but i really hope he dies ASAP, that is the absolute WORST thing i have ever read, and i feel extremely bad for all of the people that <sw> is hurting with that bill, him dying wouldnt solve anything, but it would be a GREAT start. NOBODY deserves to be specifically targeted for bullying, ESPECIALLY BY THE GOVERNMENT, WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT CITIZENS!!!!!! I honestly think there are going to be suicides because of this, and i do have my ways of getting peoples addresses, even politicians, so if one, ONE person dies because of that bill, you can bet that guy is getting a huge box of dog turds in the mail.

This SERIOUSLY pisses me off.

This is based on a law in Texas that's been in place since 2007. It meets or exceeds the U.S. Department of Educations Guidance on Constitutionally Protected Prayer in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools. It's the part that helps make it prob legal.

It's been covered by the AP:

http://www.wbir.com/story/news/2014/03/25/tn-senate-oks-religious-expression-bill-in-schools/6858557/

And the Huffpost:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/25/tennessee-religious-discrimination-bill_n_5030344.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

Neither of these news sources have a single mention of the word bully. But a bunch of LGBT blogs have is different interpretation of the bill. The bill was a response to a 10 yo not being allowed to use God as the person they admire most.

The Tennessee American Civil Liberties Union is hardly an "LGBT blog".

You are correct. And from what I have seen, they have not mentioned bullying either.

It is always a telling when a political piece such as this doesn't even quote the smoking gun passages in the law supporting their assertion. It screams that the actual wording when read by the average person undercuts their assertion. The only excerpt I see regularly quoted is:

“a student may express beliefs about religion in homework, artwork, and other written and oral assignments free from discrimination based on the religious content of their submissions. A student would not be penalized or rewarded on account of the religious content of the student’s work.”

And from that somehow a student would then be entitled to answer a chemistry test about where water comes from could enter God. First under the wording of the law the student couldn't be penalized nor rewarded so how does this benefit the student? Second, pick real question that might realistically be on a chemistry test. The abstract question "where does water come from" leads to what is water, what is atoms, what created the universe, time for some philosophy. Maybe God is the correct answer. A real chemistry question would have detail about the reactions involved asking what chemical reaction results as water.

I say find some real news with some real facts.

Yeah...the example there was a huge red flag for me too. By almost unanimous votes in both houses, which are about 25% Dems, they voted to put a bounty on the LGBT, AND allow the students to put God down as every answer. It seems to pass the basic sniff test to me!

I am concerned about what Trump will do to the transgender community. One group of his supporters are evangelical Christians. I want to emphasize that not all of these Christians are non-supportive, but there are a lot. When you add that transgender people are being singled out as a punching bag for many politicians, our lives become more in jeopardy. We need to stand up and fight back. We have a right to the same freedoms as everyone else.

My name is Jennifer, and used to be a part of this forum, going back to Laura's' Playground. I already know quite a few of the people here. I started transition about 15 years ago. My  gender markers are changed with Social Security and birth certificate. The reason I am returning is I believe I can help guide newer members through the pitfalls of their transitioning experience.   I lived in Arizona, and now live in Maine. And the first thing I want to emphasize is where you live can matter a lot. In Maine, I work in a hospital, and find many of my co-workers very accepting. I find the women more understanding and enjoy my journey more. Of course, this is a small sample, and your mileage may vary.    What I found as one of the most important topics when choosing a place to live. I found only one transgender doctor who understands, or is willing to monitor my HRT. But, he has stopped his regular practice and only sees some of his regular patients on Wednesday mornings. He has changed his career and teaches residents the rest of the week. He told me he wanted to teach other doctors how to work with transgender clients. This subject is woefully lacking in Medical School. I was using the transdermal patch, and we agreed to switch to estradiol valerate. He is working on more feminizing my body. I don't doubt he will be supportive when I decide to go through my surgery, hopefully next year. I will be on Medicare and they support surgery, if it is considered medically necessary.    That is enough for now, and I appreciate this site for all the help with transgender support.   Jennifer

trump only knows how to tear down and destroy. Actually doing something positive and building anything up seems to be beyond his grasp. It's such a a shame that so many people are so bent on trump's hatred and anger. Unhappy people all ☹️

We have customers real picky,I have a couple old bed sheets that I put over the seats.I order the paper floor mats that used and new car dealer use put on the floor. One customer, will complain if he sees a grease mark and knows it is not from me.

Not sure how you think that Trumps edicts will not make it through the courts. He owns them too. I can see Trump nominating Alina Habba to the Supreme Court. The Rs have already tainted the states with anti-trans legislation. Unless there is a huge blue wave in November that nobody sees coming, we will continue to be harassed. I am resigned to the fact that one day, we could be rounded up, and that is that. I would just as soon get it over with. All of the machinations about Trump breaking the law, and all of the punditry occurring in the media, is for naught. This guy has outclassed any efforts of organized crime to avoid punishment. It truly is amazing to watch how he mesmerizes members of his own party into being mindless.

Not everything Trump tries will make it through the courts.  I think Biden is blowing it big time in not trying to get trans-friendly legislation through Congress but instead he's relying on easily reversed regulations.     The DOE should be abolished. I agree. Hopefully that will happen.
    • Abigail Genevieve
Not everyone is a single issue voter.  If you are convinced Biden is destroying the country as a whole and Trump is not, you may well vote for Trump.

This should be a reminder to everybody that the president is not the legislature. Anything done by one president, can be undone by the next one. It just goes back and forth.   As for title IX, I'm against it. Not because of the protection that offers, but because I am against Federal involvement in education.  I would love to have a president and A legislature that would abolish Department of Education at the federal level. Even the states version of it is bad enough. Education is a local issue.

"Defam ation of character" means to make false statements about a person, to cause ruin to a person's reputation, which what happened to me. Your right, there is little I can do about other than visiting websites where I feel welcomed.

Yeah @Ivy pet pass doors are an open invitation for wildlife to come in.    When I had hunting dogs 20+ years ago I had a side kennel with a pet pass door so the dogs could bed down in the garage. They kept uninvited animals out while we were home. However once we went hunting the raccoons figured out they could help themselves out to a free meal and water. My wife made me put a latch on it so she didn’t have to deal with them.    Hugs   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
