Changing the sex on Id

I am looking into changing my sex on my drivers license to a M. In the state I currently live in you can change the sex on your Id if you get a form signed by your medical provider/psychiatrist. However I will eventually be moving out of the state. If I move, and the new state's laws say I have to have surgery to change the sex on my id, will they change it back or will the sex stay an M, since it was already changed? Also does the sex on your birth certificate have to match the sex on your id or is it ok if they're different?

I have not had surgery yet.

I suspect it depends on what documentation they require you provide. If require a birth certificate then that could be a problem if not altered.

Now a passport, which again I think takes just a doctors note, can usually be subbed for a birth certificate.

I am with Drea on this one hun. If your drivers license already says male they may just transfer it like Arizona does . Like Drea said they may have forms filled out.

Good luck hun

To change the passport you only need a letter because of the Social Security guidelines. If you change your DL as well, then it's two pieces of ID, so it should be fine. The new state probably wouldn't even know your history..

Actually, changing your passport was possible before social security allowed.

Keep in mind there are different levels of ID. A birth certificate and passport are primary forms of ID as they establish citizenship as well as id, while drivers license, while useful for most things, often needs to be supported by other forms of ID. For truly critical items, like getting a drivers license in the first place (or just renewing here), the existing drivers license is not sufficient proof. Of the ID required one must be a citizenship papers (like green card), passport, or birth certificate.

A new passport will certainly do for most states if combined with a drivers license and usually you also need a mailing from a bank, credit card company or other institution with you name and address on the bill or whatever.

I've got a new passport in the mail. I had to provide an MD's note, an original copy of my legal name change, copy of my drivers license, social security card and an old current but wrong picture ,name and gender passport. The woman said i had more than enough.

It is hard to find the exact requirements in their regulations but i think they roughly follow the guidelines for social security. For that no surgery is required anymore.

Hugs,

Charlize

I'm guessing when moving they'll go with what existing id says. The likeliest possible CENSORED is if you're moving back to a state where you were previously licensed.

A few states won't allow birth cert changes. That can be worked around with other id's, especially passport.

Thanks Davie! And don’t worry, I didn’t take it that way. It’s just such a big topic I can only hope to tackle it one bit at a time.

This is not uncommon.  I started out going to the therapist in androgynous clothing: from the women's department, but plausibly masculine.  What made it easier was when I started going to a trans peer support group.  Most of the people there were presenting fully feminine, so I looked out of place in my androgynous clothing.  The peer pressure made it easier to dress in skirts.   I started out changing in a gender-neutral bathroom near the meeting room.  But I soon started wearing skirts in the car to and from the meetings.   Yes, it was nerve-wracking at first, but I soon realized that no one was looking and no one cared.    You can do this.

In my last session my therapist is starting to suggest that I need to start exploring my gender identity in a more tangible way through wearing feminine clothing at least during sessions.  I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around her seeing me actually en femme.   I love and trust her, but the thought of being visibly feminine is scaring (and thrilling) me.  Is this a common thing in gender therapy?  How do I get past the fear?  More importantly, what should I wear?

I felt the urge to date and felt just like a teenager again. I have recorded my journal titled Ashley's Life From Start to Present. I was very moody and agitated and happy. I think it was my body's way of being in shock. After about two months it got better. Remember that you aren't the only one transitioning because your wife is too. Consider yourself lucky because I lost mine because of it and so have many others. Just enjoy the ride.

I'm sorry for asking so many questions about your situation. I'm in your camp and believe you should be able to be whoever you feel you need to be. I guess it the Union Shop Stewart coming out in me. I want you to be treated fairly as well as respectably. You're human, you're a client of theirs. Especially if you're paying money to be there.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Views, terminology, and aspects of how events came to be....aren't those directly related to the news item?  If not, I'm rather confused.

Second warning, this has gotten far and apart from the NEWS item that it started out with and is becoming a flat out battleground over political leanings and terminology.
