If "The Boss" isn't beating me up, why should I?

For the past 20 years I have used a talent learned as a young boy as part of an Easter Service my church calls the Great Vigil Of Easter. The talent is to light a fire using flint and steel so that church lights that were extinguished as part of a somber and sorrow themed liturgy on Maundy Thursday can be re-lighted (we do know where the light switch is though). Our parish had joined with a neighboring parish for the service this year and we were at their church. Last year, it took two strikes of my flint iron on the flint and the fire took off beautifully. It did not happen that way this year, I got plenty of sparks, but none were hitting the tinder and lighting it. The officiating priest came to the rescue with a match from inside his cassock, and the fire did start impressively (I had at least laid it out well). I was chagrined, but realized several minutes later that I was not beating myself up and blaming myself for having SPOILED a beautiful and moving service. People were smiling at me at the part of the service where we "Pass The Peace" and telling me how much they enjoyed the symbolism and none felt that their experience was the less that I did not actually get the fire lit with the flint and steel. As I went forward to Communion a few minutes later, I found that I was crying softly with happy tears and that indeed I was welcome and spiritually healing.

The two parishes hold joint events throughout the year, and back at Shrove Tuesday they had been at our parish hall for a Pancake Supper. Since that is a festive, Mardi Gras style party, I had worn my day-glow pink wig, and a number of them remembered me cheerfully as that person.

In my male years, I was probably the only one really beating up on myself, but that is just how I was at that time. It had to be done perfectly or I felt lower than whale poop. I am misting up a bit here now typing this just feeling a new peace. It was NOT "THE BOSS" as I sometimes lightly refer to God who was beating me up for imperfections, it was me for whatever reason that was beating me up, but now that is leaving me, I beat myself up for being imperfect as male too!! Maybe now that I have a real answer to who my authentic self is, I can love myself and not blame myself for things as I did.

Happy Easter 2014

I thought I was the only one who walked around with two black eyes all the time.

Had you failed lighting the fire with a misplaced bolt of lightning then maybe you could be a little down on yourself....lol

On the bright side the ritual of being imperfect can be easily maintained to perfection. :)

Thank you for sharing that Vicky. It sounds like you had a revelation that brought you back to the fellowship and joy of the service and out of your imperfections. What a beautiful way to celebrate Easter.

As a side note i always had trouble with getting the sparks to catch until i was shown how well dryer lint explodes into flame with the smallest spark. Maybe if you haven't tried that you might. Old scout masters trick.

Hugs,

Charlize

Good afternoon,    I have a young friend who is vegetarian and married to a full on meat eater. They have two areas of their grill clearly designated for their different cooking requirements. When she’s cooking she uses tongs or chopsticks to handle any meats. When he’s cooking he respects her request not to cook her meals on the side where meat has been. They get along fine and respect each other.    When she attends our house, she usually brings her own food, but knows I will clean my grill to meet her requirements. We love and respect her commitment to be vegetarian. I love that she trusts me to make her comfortable when visiting us. There are ways to make it work.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I was going to call it Numbness, then I realised well.. it isn't. basically, yeah, it isn't.   this only happens to me sometimes. I'll be lying down and my legs will.. well, I guess lock?   If I straighten them out, they will unlock- when I roll over again, they will lock again. this lasts for around 10/ 15 minutes I guess   it's not pins and needles either

so, a close friend wants to cook for me   the issue is, she is a vegitarian and won't handle meat- I, on the other hand, won't handle vegetables- hate the things   every time she goes out to the shop, she comes back with something.. a cake, a fruit smoothie, a coffee, I won't eat any of it. please help me think of something that she could make for me that I'll actually eat   disclaimer: you are talking to the most pickiest eater in the world. good luck

I think there is some truth in this.  They intend to implement Project 2025, whether or not he spends his energies persecuting the Democrats who have been persecuting him (in his view, a debatable point) and does nothing else.   I have seen numerous accusations that the document is about "Trumpism", whatever that is, and is merely a vehicle for him to become dictator.  From what I have read so far, that is the same sort of truth as the Steele Dossier, denying the validity of a certain laptop, Schiff's non-existence evidence of collaboration and a host of other things, many directly from Biden, that are simply not true.   I will continue reading it.

      Who, precisely, are "they"?

Wife of mine pointed out that not getting a haircut for a month looks hideous - weird bald patches.  So back to super- short buzz cut.  This morning I braced, looking in the mirror.  I look like a woman trying to pass as a a guy, maybe  a small-breasted woman with enough T treatment to grow a mustache.    I would not believe me if I read what I write about me.  This is nuts.   White t-shirt: that they sell in the back of WM so you can tie-dye them or otherwise decorate them. They are thick and long lasting and slightly fitted, so that they could be a man's.  I like them.   Jeans, flip flops.   I will no longer point out these are women's.  What else would I wear?

That is all that is necessary. I did the same thing. I must have gotten something wrong.

Quite right mate! I have been letting my hair grow out again (I cut it all off when I was 18).    I'll never look this good:    But I'll aspire to look my best! ☺️
