Best razor

Right now I basically use the very cheapest razors and cheapest shaving cream at walmart. It's pretty much impossible to not cut myself at least 3 or 4 times each time shaving body hair. Also because of how easily the razor cuts me I have to slow way down. It takes me about 45 min - 60 minutes to shave all body hair depending on how long it's been since I shaved last. If I go about 6 days it will take about 45 minutes. This seems like it shouldn't take so long because when I shave it and it takes 45 min it's probably less than a millimeter in length. What is the best razor in terms of it removing hair efficiently while not cutting me? Also the best shaving cream?

I would recommend looking up the "Headblade" on Google. It's a rather unusual razor intended for shaving heads because heads are curved. Well, so are legs and many other parts of the body. I use the Headblade to body shave. When properly held, with the wheels down against the skin, I find it impossible to cut myself. If I do cut myself (rarely) it's because I lifted the device off the skin allowing the blade to attack at a bad angle.

Using that how long does it take you to shave? I guess my main interest is in getting it done quickly but with the close shave of a razor.

Well, I've been on HRT a while now and my body hair is far different today than before so my answer might not be relevant to you. But in my case I shave about once every 10-14 days and it takes me about 15 minutes total. My body hair is generally greatly reduced from what it once was before I began HRT (except pubic hair which seems to be flourishing :P).

At this point can you recall how long it took you to shave all your body hair. Would you say the hairs at that point are about a millimeter in length (about the width of a paperclip) because that's about how long mine is when I shave it. Seems like it takes me a lot longer than it should for the length it is.

Hey Cody,

I just grabbed some lady razors from the store (they have a wide head with some type of strip at the edge for lubricating. I was using regular disposable razors and that was cutting me up and taking forever. Once I switched to the lady's razors, everything is much cleaner and smoother.

I don't shave everything at once or it would take me like 30-45 mins, but I do a different body part on different days. For instance, I may do my pits one day, then chest the next and then legs the next and then bikini area the next and arms/hands next day. Since my shampoo is a medical shampoo, I have to leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing. So I shampoo, shave a part, rinse, condition, wash my body, rinse my body and conditioner, done. This keeps me from spending too much time in the shower at once. It's been working good for me.

Good luck

You could look into electric shavers. My epilator came with a removal hed that can be replaced by a shave head. I'm surprised how well the shaver works. I don't think it's quite as close as I could get with a razor, but there are no cuts. It's also pretty quick and easy.

That's another thing - epilators. Mine seems to have helped in changing my hair density and thickness when coupled with HRT. I will epilate certain areas about once a week, total time about 10 minutes before I hop in the shower. That, plus actually shaving every 10-14 days seems to keep things under control for me.

I have always used electric shavers plus an epilator (in fact 2 now as I have repaired my old (better) one that failed). I have problems with ingrowing hairs on my legs and stomach so cannot cut too close but I have found an electric shaver with minimum setting of 0.4mm which works well.

As with Ashley I tend to do different parts on different days using the epilator for underarms, hands and feet and shavers for other areas. I have found that I need to be very careful with inner thigh due to the very soft skin which can easily get caught by poor control of an electric razor but there are bikini trimmers which are designed for these areas if you want the recommended tool for the job.

I use different types of Venus which I think is by Gillette. After the first few weeks the ingrown hairs and pimples stopped being an issue. I can do my legs, arms, pits and chest (careful around the nipples), buttocks and stomach in about 15 minutes. For my pubic area I just use clippers and keep it trimmed.

I was using shaving cream for the first little while but now find that just plane bathsoap with the self lubricating Venus razors is just fine.

Nothing feels better than that first day of a good shave. :)

I was recently asked about what type of electric razor i use. For Christmas i got myself a Panasonic model ES-LA 63 wet dry razor. i purchased it on line after shopping for the best price. I use it either dry(rarely) or in the shower. I soap up my face first and then start mowing hitting any spot i feel roughness a second or third pass. i find that my face is a smooth and soft as it ever was with a blade and i do think actually softer. I also run much less of a risk of cutting myself. Having very fair hair one shave at night lasts until the next night but the roughness returns.

Someday maybe i'll start that long hair by hair burning ritual but for now my friend and i keep the jungle under control.

Hugs,

Charlize

Good morning :)   I have coffee today, but the cup keeps leaking (I guess the cap isn't able to fully seal or something), so I keep having to wipe up the sides lol   Almost finished all my missing work for school, which means if I do a bit more work, I should be out of trouble with my parents (not even that bad of trouble compared to when I was younger, more just an annoyance haha)

Good morning 😘   Finished packing up my kitchen and pantry for fumigation today. I also modified my backpack to make it day-centre compliant.  I was able to get almost 2 hrs sleep last night, so I'll survive. 😑

I'll be going to some Pride events as a spectator.  Maybe marching in a parade if they have open participation.    The event we'd prefer to go to is held in a small town with a population of less than 600.  They have a parade through all three blocks of their downtown area.  Unfortunately, this year it is on the same day as a memorial service for a friend who passed away this winter, so we'll have to miss it.  So our second choice is a larger town, population about 9000, a bit farther away.    And we are keeping our eyes open for other events in the general area as they are announced.   I dress a bit flashier than normal, with some trans bling, such as rainbow or trans flag earrings, a trans symbol pendant, and a handheld trans flag to wave.  Political sentiment is turning against us, but public sentiment here is still strongly on our side, so getting out and showing the flag, both literally and figuratively, is important.

I had that going on with my last two partners who were 20 years older than me.  One of them looked older for her age as well.  I remember a couple times being in the grocery store a decade ago and having people ask "can I help you ladies with something?" and then I'd turn around with my red beard.  Well before I started transitioning, but my partner knew I was trans back then.   I struggle with this as well.  My music and political career can have a masculine edge to it that I don't like.  It's been really frustrating lately.  I don't like pushing myself on others or telling people what to do.  I've been running a website for 25 years and have virtually never tried to promote it or even look at any analytics.  I don't want to push it on anyone.  I put what I have on it and make it publicly available.  It's part of my production process.  It keeps me sane and if someone else can find it useful, then I'm happy to share.

I'm curious, but then if I am true to myself, I have a hard time being in crowds.  I love hearing great music, but being in an audience is such a turnoff for me that I don't go to concerts or bars.  I'm just very much a producer.  I actually like doing the dishes more than going to concerts because it's an active thing.

My therapist is trying a new tact. I've named my self protection self that ssays not eating or too much exercise because when I starting because oftrauma my protective self started and also at the time the name Shay came to me and is now part of my name.  It's not like having a split personality, just my primative self protection who is always there to help me. My therapist has Shay, me and him working as a team to assure her that I am safe and to start changing her role in my life so I protect me by eating right and exercising to maintain a heathy body. It is helping a little but we just started this a few weeks ago.
