What's the manly thing you like to do?

I'm thinking of (well becoming really) a girl full time, but Two manly things I can't give up:

I like to shoot guns, and like to wrestle and fight. Nothing is more fun then getting into a fist fight, but not very girly at all, fighting screws up your hands. I broke my right hand on some homophobes jaw and it never healed quite right and I dont like the way it looks .

What do you girls do that carried over from your manly side?

Riding motorcycles.... fixing and building things!

Perhaps I'll make a suggestion? Maybe take up Boxing or kickboxing... and watch this movie "The Beautiful Boxer :)

Shoot guns? Fight? Wow Lexi - right out of my league. I've said it here many times, I'm very feminine inside. Not camp - merely a male shell with a girly interior. I befriend women easily and enjoy their company. The most masculine I get is doing a bit of maintenance around the house, like fitting up lights, etc. But at my age I make a mess of these jobs anyway - it's like my male DIY hormones went on strike a few years ago. So I've gone from a DIY pro to a thumb-crushing failure. In fact I have to remember to take off my favourite bracelets before bashing my digits with a hammer. But I am happier now than I have been for years and I don't really miss the DIY.

So I think my last manly reserve is actually: physically being a man and able to love a lady (the bits work). The rest is 'in the gender blender'.

Fist fighting is so far out of my league it makes me want to wear a skirt thinking about it. It's kind of irreconcilable to who I am! But I have used guns in the past so I'm fairly comfortable around them, but so are any women!

I like to watch sports, both in-person and on T.V. Football, baseball, ice hockey, even (ladies) pro golf, and the Olympics, of course. I also like to go deep sea fishing.

Lexi, to be quite honest, getting into fist fights is not manly, it's just, well, not smart. Why would you want to, especially now? There are other ways to handle jerks, like walking away. If you're talking about fighting for exercise or sport, that's different, and perfectly acceptable.

Yeah I guess being called a Sweetie, a girl, and a sissy as a kid made me have to learn to fight to survive high school. Its fun to do as a sport, Im getting back into martial arts.

That was a bad example, I do it as sport.

Violence is for people too stupid to think their way out of a situation.

I also like to hunt and fish (especially the latter). I like cars and camping, watching sports, my friends look to me when it comes to fixing things and outdoors knowledge. I struggle A LOT to reconcile this with my inner lady. When I start thinking about this and getting stressed about it, I try to think about the "all of me" and not being a bunch of different people all fighting for control. All of me is complex...and im working on making this OK.

I no longer hunt but still use a gun as necessary on the farm. The work i do here is often quite 'manly' but do remember i was a man who very much supported women's lib. As a woman i still do. i find nothing non feminine about driving a dump truck or operating a tractor or backhoe. I've had macho guys show up at the farm and watched their jaws drop when i fire off a chainsaw in a skirt and load their truck with the front end loader. Manly man i'm not but i'm not a shrinking rose either. I can not get rid of 63 years as a man in a couple of years. Nor would i want to.

I will avoid fights though.

At this time it may be easier for me to list the manly things that havent carried over than the ones that have.

Simple fact remains most of these traits allowed me to be who and where I am right now. Wiping myself clean of my past is an impossibility I choose not to even try, but how much and to what degree all of these traits are going to continue is what I struggle with.

I cant say my shoulder I will ever miss shooting 3 inch magnum 12 gauge shells, nor will putting ice on a beat up face.

My delicate sensibilities will at least afford me that.

Now if there was just a way to restore old cars without getting greasy or dirty.......hmmmmmm

My last gf was a tomboy, she was bigger/taller then me but had some curves and a very pretty face so watching her drive a stick shift and using power tools was hot to me.

I could never kill an animal, I almost cried when I ran over a squirrel once, I feel guilty eating meat... but I guess if you eat what you kill it's ok?

Well I still like all the things I always did. Like riding a bicycle really fast and hard, pushing myself to my limits and beyond at times. I'd like to get a welder and build an electric bicycle frame, actually a really light weight electric motorcycle with pedals so I can at least pretend it is a bicycle. I've always loved gardening and inherited not just one but two green thumbs. I could grow you a flower garden in a parking lot. I just wear gloves now when digging in the dirt, or working on my bike. There is a whole list of things I've enjoyed doing and the point is that it was ME that enjoyed doing those things and when I'm living full time as a woman, it will still be ME that enjoys doing those things. So why should I stop just because I'm really a woman?

I would like to think that CD is all about breaking the stereotypes of "manly" and "womanly". Those who are old enough to remember the movie "Annie get your gun" will remember a bit of the awakening to the artificiality of gender roles. And I'm not talking about "gender queer". I'm talking about dressing and behaving as one feels most comfortable. And if that is sometimes what society defines as "male" and sometimes as "female", then so be it. To me there are no men or women( in terms of gender. Sex, fortunately, is different. Sometimes.). There are just people - with different personalities, and different ways of expressing their personalities.

So if the sergeant major in the marines wants to collect dolls, good luck to him/her. And if the petite little ballerina decides to take up boxing and beat the blue blazes out of someone, go for it.

Great big (feminine) hugs all round!

Oh my gosh I think I will live with the grease and dirt instead....

I can imagine how uncomfortable that would be,,,,an 8 hour shift on a hot day in even the most feminine pink body suit I would not consider a good trade off, Dysphoria and Dirt be damned.

Apart from my job which is very 'hands on' equipment maintenance I still do almost all of the house maintenance. I check the car but do little in depth work on it these days (all electronic so not as easy as mechanical points etc).

I must admit I have far less enthusiasm for the more manly things these days. I was never one for fighting and although I enjoyed shooting I always felt sick when I shot anything living. My liking for sports never did include manly things like football.

I suppose the one sport (many really) that still really gets me are motorsports. I have a motorcycle and although it is now a few years since I last rode it I know if I did it would perhaps be dangerous as that is one thing I tended to push limits at times and know I still would (I still have scars to prove it).

Wow! I...I am reading these comments with surprise. You see, these 'male' activities just don't click with me. I have zero interest in sports, despite trying. I used to do mechanics and DIY but something changed in me and I can't do it now - except for mechanics where I still have some skill. Cars? Fighting and shooting? Fishing? all lost on me. I'm just who I am. I'm gentle, adore children including my two teens, I keep home and garden. I love to grow things. I get raging angry with men who are arrogant (and women). And I mean r.a.g.i.n.g. Arrogant men send me wild with fury. I hate them with a passion. The same with women but less so. I had a rough few years when I was treated like dirt and I guess it never left me. To see me from day to day I look like a typical English overweight man. But inside I am quite different. I'm sorry but I can't equate with how you are all feeling.

Still, we are all different and no matter how we feel, it does not stop us being who we are as CD. It's interesting to learn about you!

Sorry for the rant above....

I love my gardening. I have a very wooded garden, with lots of big trees. On a Saturday morning - which is when I get into the garden, you are likely as not to find me half-way up a tree chopping branches off. I have to do this, though, when my wife isn't home. She doesn't like me doing this since a branch fell on my head and gave me quite an ugly gash.

Anyhow, that's not what you would probably do in a miniskirt.

Because of my chosen profession I like to lift weights. I realize it makes it a bit of a challenge sometimes to "pass" as a female with muscles, but I am working on changing routines to accommodate less weight and higher reps to stay lean with good muscle tone. With the right clothes, it's not an issue. But, with summer time and short/sleeveless tops and dresses, hiding the guns gets to be a bit of a challenge. Life is all about balance and moderation right? ;)

I just left the sawmill. it was acting up so i had to step in and finish an order. When the man arrived to pick up the beams he refused to let me help as i was still in a jean skirt. Oh well i don't mind him doing the work.

Oh yea Ashley and Brenda, i'm sure i wouldn't want to do an 8 hour shift in a pink latex body suit but i might do an hour and enjoy it. Does it come with a cat tail to wipe away the perspiration?

I work for a railroad which means most everyone is a man. There are women who do the same jobs as the men and are quite good at it. So that being said, outside of my work environment the only manly thing I do is work on cars. Any time something needs to be fixed or replaced, I can usually do it in my garage. Being dirty and greasy doesn't bother me. But I also like to be girly too and get all "done up". Back in 2009 I took up boxing and a little kick boxing along with working out. It's fun, and was a great way for me to get out my anger and help with my depression. Now though, I have no need for fighting since I have found better ways to deal with life's problems.

Girls, I don't like doing most manly things, but I am forced to use my body these days to help during our move out of this house to anorher state. We are purging 25 yrs of belongings to garage sales and filling black contractors trash bags by the dozen . Soon it will be piling a lot of it up for charity organizations. But it is the constant carrying of very heavy trash that is taking its toll on me. As a women I am more t home doing less, playing some guitar, watching a movie, cooking a meal, being domestic. These other items many of you list are just NOT for me! Call me a lady of leisure, or a suburban housewife (I do not work). But, do not ask me to hump out the trash!

Not sure, nothing very manly. I'm terrible for the most part fixing things, only like cars to get me from A to Z, etc.

Maybe reading SciFi? Although can't stand reading fighting. Actually don't like fighting at all in life.

Maybe video games?

Really nothing excessively masculine.

It's also networking.  Sometimes jobs come along because someone knows someone else - these older people might know someone.  "Hey, Ashley," someone might say,"My nephew is looking for love. He likes tall women. Whatcha think? Can he call you?"   Don't discount their ability to match make.  It is about networking.

The sad part is I'm the third oldest member. One is in their 60's and the other is past 70's. I'm even older than the president lol. It's a younger crowd that's for sure. I like to come here to feel young again lol.

Ashley, I think searching for relationships are a lot like searching for jobs, they tend to come along when you aren't actually looking.  Perhaps you could step back from actively searching, at least for a little while, and instead, concentrate on just being out and about as yourself.  Like Mae and Abby have already mentioned, just keep up your volunteering, but don't focus on a need to find someone.  Maybe, just maybe, changing your tactics will result in someone finding you.    I do wish only the best for you, and I hope someone comes along who connects with you.

First off, you can't regret being honest. You may not be changing the relationship, but it sounds like it still exists!   As for meeting people, what about through the volunteering you're doing? Maybe you can do more of that and meet people. Let some relationships grow and if they blossom into something more than friendship, great! If not, you've got more friends!

Hello @JenniferB!  Was kind of in the same boat with this.  I spent massive amounts of energy over several decades to try to control my drinking and drug use.  Because I'm highly disciplined, I was ultimately successful.  I felt I could have gone on with controlled drinking for the rest of my life without problems, but it got to the point where I realized that it wasn't worth all the energy I was putting into it.  At that point I found surrender.  I got a sponsor, attended almost daily meetings for a year, worked the steps to the best of my ability, tried my best to socialize with people even though I am an introvert, I made a mess for myself at the meetings and felt a little rejected.  And then I continued on doing a little service work.   After a few months away from it, I'm in a good spot.  I accidentally ate one of my roommates edibles a couple months ago.  I have only smoked a half ounce of weed in the last 20 years.  After it kicked in, I realized that it was a marijuana high.  Then I noticed something miraculous.  I just told myself that there is nothing I can do about it and then got on with the business of the evening like I normally would.  It was like the high just ended right then and there.   Controlled drinking like I was doing was just very risky behavior and not worth the effort for me.  In any case, I'm very happy that I spent my life fighting it all instead of just giving into it.  I think that whatever you put into something, you eventually get back out.   Meetings are cool.  People generally get equal time to share.  Seeing people who are struggling reminds me of the way I was and why I want to remain sober.  And by being there, I have the potential of helping someone else.  The stuff I don't identify with I just do my best to not let bother me.  And if it gets bad there, I don't have to go back.  I can find another meeting or even just read the literature.  The literature helped me a lot.

Good afternoon everyone,   I often wondered why @April Marie and @Willowgot up so early in spite of being retired. Now that I have my own puppy as a house pet I get it. We haven't had dogs since before my oldest granddaughter was born 22 years ago this September. I've always had working hunting dogs, and it was important they became acclimated to the current weather conditions. While the kennels had large outdoor runways, they also had pet passes into the somewhat temperature controlled garage. Yes, they were allowed in the house but only for short periods of time. Fast forward to present time, and I'm potty training a puppy as well as crate training. The first night Parker Von Schwinegruber, slept from 10:30 until 05:30. Last night we went to bed and 10:30 and he started making noise at 05:00. Since I don't want to test his ability to hold his business, we got up and went outside. He took care of business and we went back to sleep. This time he had a dental chew bar and I filled his water bowl. We cat napped until 08:00 and then got up for the day taking him immediately outside. He took care of business, and we played fetch and tug of war with his now favorite puffball. We came in and I put him back in the crate positioned so he could see me cook breakfast. Did he NO HE WENT TO SLEEP! We ate breakfast, did the dishes, and finished off the pot of coffee I brewed at 08:00. Once he woke up we stared at one another for about 20 minutes, because he seemed content to be in the crate. I got up and we worked on some obedience training as well as getting into and out of the crate with permission. We don't want him to crash the gate or any doors we will be going through.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
