Thanks for that link. I have a trans friend in Nova Scotia who i know sometimes has a rough time. It seems our neighbors to the north are not as perfect as i thought. Pity

Personally, I think there's merit to the U.S. approach to hate speech, and think that in places like Canada thinking twice before expanding the definition is a good idea. Not that we aren't worthy of inclusion in protection, but it would be more concerning if it was about violent hate crimes, not just speech.

Not that I LIKE hate speech, but one of the main points of the bill is apparently to ban revenge porn, which would be a good thing even without the amendment. They also seem to have other problems with the bill--I find it refreshing that someone in their executive branch is interested in containing government surveillance powers.

There is apparently another bill that's passed the House and is languishing in the senate that would do the same thing as the shot-down amendment. So there are legislators there who keep trying.
