I Wish I Could Apply Makeup

In all my 42 years of crossdressing I have never been able to apply makeup. I would love to do it but I am afraid of messing it up. My other regret is that I have never owned a wig, mostly because I would be a bit too shy to buy one in store. One of these days though I will pluck up the courage to buy a wig in a department store. I am fortunate that my hair is naturally curly which does compensate for not having a wig. When I am dressed as Belinda on Friday night I feel very glamorous and girly when I look in the mirror but I often wonder how I would look if I was fully made up and wore a nice wig. I often wonder if I would pass and look reasonably pretty.

Any tips on makeup would be most welcome.

IN regards to make up, you will mess it up. Everyone messes it up the first time, that is just a part of learning how to do it. Getting good at applying makeup just takes practice and repetition like most things. I can tell you when I first tried applying makeup I looked like a clown, and it discouraged me from trying again for awhile.. But thanks to tutorials online and practice practice practice I got to where I can do it as well as I do.

Sarah is quite correct. Makeup takes practice. One good thing i found early is that a makeup remover and a sink to wash quickly make mistakes vanish. It is almost like working on a canvass. Sometimes it doesn't work but i can start over again. The more i do that the more it works until it is humdrum and i get confident and play a bit more.

Try to enjoy it without worrying too much about the result.

Hugs,

Charlize

practice is the key :) at the beginning it will be awfull but for me the key is that the more I accepted who I am the more I saw the girl behind the male face. One you see the traits to accentuate it's a little easier and you can get great results. And beside, please don't miss on such a great occasion to indulge yourself, doing what you llike and relax (at least for me it's very relaxing) :)

Yes, doing makeup takes practice, but, the fast track is to find a shop or place that can design a look for you and show you how duplicate it whenever you want. I don't think that you have to go to London and find David Bowies makeup artist! Look about and ask about, makeup artists are for the most part very open minded people.

I have over a thousand "selfies" of my attempts at doing my make-up and many could be used to chase rats and mice out of your attic, or to torture a suspected terrorist. (I think the Geneva Conventions are clearly against my pictures for that use.) Over my time as CD, I saw a lot of British magazines for CDer's and what were called "Dressing Services", including a few there in Wales. I can still remember the first time I had a "make-over" in a similar shop here near Hollywood CA.

As far as tips go, go for one cosmetic at a time and as said practice with it. I know how to "contour" my face with various shades of foundation and concealer, but for the ordinary everyday, I use a single shade of foundation over my entire face down my neck just below my adams apple. It will take three or four tries to get it on in a single smooth finish, but you can always go back and fix the "painters holidays" where you have missed or gotten the wrong amount on you face. I am full time female and the less is more idea is fantastic. Do your make-up simply and go out and get your confidence up, and then try some of the high end stuff.

I agree - practice is the key.

That is one reason why I use daily although not the main ones (really it is the pampering making me feel good and protection offered by sunblock in foundation etc).

At first maybe get an hour or so to yourself as often as practical and just play like a child! Get the feel of things and deliberatly overdo it even. Find the extremes and work back from there. It is very much like painting or drawing.

Look on sites on the internet for examples of looks and perhaps try to follow their techniques but also do not slavishly copy. Develop your own style! One thing to note that is unless you are going for the look, less is often more. Many women wear little makeup and often those that wear more are expert at blending it in to their features so appear to be wearing little.

As for the wig - If your hair is curly do you need it? Maybe work on the makeup and step back and look at yourself. At that point would a wig improve things?

I get my wigs from amazon.com, there pretty good, and regards to make-up, that's a whole nother story, lol, i get most of it right except the eye's, i usually wind up poking myself in the eye, either with the eyeliner or mascara brush, which causes redness and tearing, and i don't have to tell you what that does. so the points that i can give you aren't very good, good luck with itand lots of hugs sweet charlene

I have at least 2-3 beauty supply stores that not only recognise me but welcome me! I go in male mode and shamelessly buy lipstick eveshadow and wigs. Most of the time I just puck a wig and buy it but once I had a shop owner sit me down to try it on. ( oops actually i did it with another shop owner too come to think of it. ) I dont care if there are other shoppers either. I just do it and guess what? The world didnt end.

Make-up application is trial and error and tweeking it . But it is totally possible for anyone to apply. .. You gotta do the time and practice a whole bunch. You get a little better each time.

Hi Belinda

Go to E-bay and buy a wig. I have at least 6 I bought on line from E-bay. Safe, discreet and secure!

I don't really do makeup apart form lipstick and nail varnish. It's not easy to remove the evidence when the family is around! but I do wear bangles and necklaces most of the time. After the kids' original reaction to the 'bling' they don't even comment now. Right now I'm wearing a lovely large silver cut-out pattern bangle. Not one person has said anything, not even in the shops. Sometimes you've just got to do it.

Hugs

Eve

I would echo everything that has been said previously with one refinement. Not all You Tube videos on make-up application are created equal. Some are better than others and some speak to your particular situation (age, facial characteristics, etc.) better than others. Some presenters are simply better at providing meaningful and understandable explanations than others. Troll the internet until you find a guide that speaks to you and your needs. There is lots of help available. And as everyone has said, "Practice, practice, practice..."

Thank you very much girls for you kind advice. I am going to take all your comments now. You have all given me such confidence. Vicky I thought your advice about wearing one cosmetic at a time is sound advice. I often go browsing in drugstore's at the lovely lipstick's they have on offer. Tracy J you are right I don't think I need a wig with my curly hair. When my hair is very curly I often been mistaken for a Woman. I am never offended quite the opposite I find it flattering. Many Women I have known in work have said that they would love to have my curly hair they are very envious. Little do they know how much I envy them being Women.

Once again thanks to each and every one of you.

Lots of Love,

Belinda.

Wearing makeup terrified me and originally stayed away from the idea. I have just started using lip liner and lipstick and the sensation is great. Tried eye liner and mascara and made a mess of it- still laughing at the crooked lines and botched eye lashes. Also found out the eye liner is stubborn to remove. Oh well

I remember the first time I tried to apply makeup without my wife being there to guide me and when she saw me she said I kind of resembled a clown. The next time I did it without her she said that was the look I needed. it just takes practice and the more you practice the more confident you get. I am far from being able to apply it like an old pro like my wife but I will keep practicing. I got my wigs and forms and now tomorrow we will be getting all dressed up with no where to go (lol) actually we just might go for a drive who knows. I didn't put makeup on when I picked her up from work but I had my breast forms and tight jeans and t-shirt on and she wanted me to go into a store for her I chickened out. she said "there is nothing to it but to do it the same goes for applying makeup" she said "put it on every chance you get and you will get better". I guess if I would have been doing like she said I may have had the confidence to go in tonight.

Let us know how it goes.

Hugs and KissesXOXOXO

Well, my friends are out publicly. Openly transgender, and on HRT.  I agree that the survival of all of us is at stake.  But I think there are threats greater and more dangerous than those faced exclusively by LGBTQ folks.   Rising prices. Unaffordable food.  EPA strangling transportation and energy.  Needless foreign wars that put us at risk of literal nuclear annihilation.  A government that wants to tax us, track us, and control every aspect of our lives...including using us as guinea pigs for their medical experiments.     Trump is no savior.  Neither is the Republican party.  But I believe that a vote for Democrats in the federal government is for sure a vote for globalism and what follows it.  War, famine, plague, slavery, and death don't care if we're trans or cis.

People who are out publicly, and openly transgender, maybe on HRT, having changed names and gender, have a lot to lose if anti-trans politicians take power.  They have openly called for our eradication, and promise to do everything they can to accomplish this.  (again, 2025) For someone in this position the election is about our survival.  It's foolish to delude ourselves into thinking "Oh, they don't really mean that.  It's all for show," or, "There's other more important things to concern ourselves with." Maybe for some people the other things take priority.  But if you have skin in the game, things look different.

If that happens, a lot of things I don't want to see might also be codified into law.  And some things that shouldn't be law might not get repealed.  To me, progress in one area isn't worth the price we'd have to pay in several other areas.     For me, voting on LGBTQ issues always ends up as an "out of the frying pan, but into the fire" sort of event.

Trying out a new wig. Got my reading glasses on. I've also got dark roots now - first time in years.

Thea, your post made me think of a comic named Chloe Petts whom I saw recently on Hannah Gadsby's Gender Agenda comedy special on Netflix. She is a cisgender masculine lesbian. She is brilliant and so funny. I was intrigued by her identification - specifically masculine, not butch. And it seems to me there is a difference.

Today I had a dr appt. When I checked in, I was asked my surname, which I gave. Apparently there were two patients with appointments at that time with that same surname. The receptionist asked, "Are you (my legal name which is feminine) or Paul?" I got such a kick out of it not being assumed I had the feminine name.

That must have felt affirming, albeit perhaps weirdly so. However, I'd construe that more broadly (no pun intended) as sexism rather than misogyny where the latter would imply contempt. Also, incidentally, I've heard chivalry referred to as "benevolent sexism".

My boss is in a panic. His business is a couple straws away from breaking a camel in half. He's just handling the stress very poorly.   My dad, though. He's handling things pretty well, as long as I continue to don't get massively offended by being called: son, boy, etc. His eldest is leaving the State and looks so different than he's been used to over the years. I haven't told him I'm on HRT, but to be fair the changes haven't been massive. I've always had boobs, more so after COVID weight gain and made more obvious with its loss, but now I'm not hiding them--and obviously wearing a bra. The estrogen has done some work, but nothing major (sadly). I think the biggest HRT changes have been my skin and a mild amount of fat redistribution.   Today I'm wearing my cheater, I almost have cleavage! :D I need to get another t-shirt bra to keep a good rotation. I only have two, one push-up, and the rest are unlined (great for Summer, but not great for my Summer wardrobe ).

I eat a ketogenic diet and have had no problems. I don't know about your case but I suspect it is the estrogen. Research the types of ways to take estrogen. Pay close attention to the bloodwork results. If they are not satisfactory, bring it up with your doctor. I take injectables, which are fully covered by insurance. It may not be the route for you, but something to consider. I emphasize to do your research and good luck. You can solve this. Be persistent.    Jennifer

I'm in a magenta blouse under a baby blue buttoned cardigan - still a little cool here in the northeast today - with dark blue jeans. Oh, and my favorite flame colored copper feather earrings.
