Nipple Stinging, post-op D.I. w/ grafts

Hello, all-

I just recently went through with a double incision, double mastectomy, with nipple grafts, through Dr. Beverly Fischer in Timonium, Maryland. Since the surgery, I've been getting these really strange feelings, apparently where my new nipples have been placed.

For less than a fraction of a second at a time, sometimes many times per minute, sometimes not for days, I'll feel these tiny jolts of pain in both my nipples. It's nice to know they're alive enough to feel pain, because they look pretty gruesome, but it just got me wondering...

Has anyone else felt this sort of thing with their grafts? Perhaps those who experienced peri, as well? Was it just nerve pain, or something else?

Thanks, in advance, for everyone's answers!

Ive not been where you are but would certainly call your doctor and ask if what you are experiencing is normal. I don't know how long it has been but I presume you will have a post op appointment. Make sure to bring the issue then. Too many of us say we feel great but it is important to be honest with your doctor.

Very gentle hugs,

Charlize

Would you describe those jolts of pain perhaps as electrical zaps?

I've heard zaps claimed to be nerves re-connecting. I tend to be doubtful of that colloquial claim of nerves reconnecting since such tend to be more frequent shortly after surgery while sensation to touch returns (to the degree it does) much later. Still I believe it is nerves that have been stimulated by the trauma firing off a burst.

Such becomes less and less frequent over time. Usually within weeks but I've heard people experience the occasional very random occurrence years out.

About a week later, and I am happy to report the stinging is to a minimum, while I now have feeling in my new nips! ^---^

Very excited for the vest to come off.

Thank you, everyone, for your replies.
