How did the principal find out you were wearing a bra?? Tell your parents about the situation since you will need a guardian ad litem if it comes to legal issues if complaints are filed and litigated.

It may well be legal where you live, I am not licensed to practice in your state, and there may be a local ordinance or Education Code on the subject. Check with the GLBT legal Center in the Twin Cities area via internet or phone and see if one of their staff will give you the information you are seeking.

What difference doe it make if you were wearing a bra or not, thats like expelling you for not wearing underwear, and does it effect your grade's in school, are you inciting riots, of course, I personally think they should mind their own business. Now that sit out in the open, your folks have to know. If they don't mind, let them give you a note, or put it on when you get home, whatever you decide, make sure it's your own decision, not someone else's. Good luck and God bless

Either way, I would think this could have the potential for a lawsuit. A dress coat defense by the school will not work. The dress code is about what one sees people wearing, not what one does not see a person wearing under their outer clothing.

And if you are wearing a bra properly, no one should see it.

I think Vicky is right, hon. You would have to give us more information about what happened, and even then we really aren't qualified to offer a legal opinion. I do know that many school districts or individual schools have dress codes, and they are usually legal, but there must be more to this if they knew what kind of underwear you had on.
