What do corsets do for you?

I want to start wearing one when I've lost a lot more weight and I heard they help with posture, but what does that mean? What does it do for your posture? Does it change the way you walk and sit?

Hi Pinkie. To me they make me feel and look feminine. I don't know about helping your posture, but it can definitely help your cleavage. It does mine. I probably didn't help with your question, but it's been fun. Hugs. Amber L

Corsets apply pressure to your body to shape you into a more feminine (basically the hourglass) figure. In order to do this, they have to be fairly strong, and most corsets consist of steel 'bones' to reinforce the strings and fabric. When you lace up the corset around you, it forces your spine to stay straight, which improves your posture. As far as I know, it doesn't really change how you walk. It just keeps your back straighter when you're well, doing everything.

Oh they'll help with your posture alright, you won't be able to bend over in it! (especially the ones made with steel boning). With training, they can help you achieve a smaller waistline while discreetly rearranging some of your internal organs in the process. Yay....

I tried one on and in 20 minutes called my lawyer and told him I needed to confess to three robberies and a couple of unsolved murders if only I could get the corset off!!

Corsets are fun and i enjoyed experimenting with them. If you decide to yourself please be careful. Having said that look around at the women you know. If they are wearing corsets they are into S and M. While not a bad thing it does indicate that corsets are not particularly comfortable and can cause damage to your internal organs. I also want a straight back and female figure. The first i've found with yoga and the second seems to be developing with HRT.(at least my butt is growing some padding. I'll never have a small waist naturally but as this isn't the 1800's i don't need one to wear today's fashion.

Hugs,

Charlize

I like corsets when worn as outerwear like in Goth outfits although I have never worn one. I have made my own corset belt for a Goth outfit which I have yet to complete. It does pull things in a bit when I tighten it fully!

The idea of gaining a smaller waist appeals but the thought of squashed innards does not! Looking at cis women it is interesting how many do not have slim waists. Perhaps good exercise to keep in trim is a better idea :)

A corset won't completely fix your posture, but one could help. Corsets are typically worn for one of two reasons: tight lacing and waist training. Tight lacing is wear you pull the laces as tight as you can and you only wear it for a short time. With waist training, you wear a corset daily, but the laces are much looser. This way is more comfortable, and you'll slowly shape your body. Waist training is also more likely to improve your posture, because you'll have the corset on longer. You could always buy a corset to try it. Off the rack corsets go for around $70 each.

A real corset (steel bones, steel busk. No plastic!) will hold you in and upright, and that's mostly it. If you pick a design that's not suited to your body, you might get poked a little by the bones in your hips and ribs, when you sit. But if you pick a good, well-fitted underbust, you won't get any jabbing unless you slouch. (Which also helps with posture ;p ) My corset doesn't really effect the way I walk or anything.

I bought a variety of shapewear and have ended up using the corset with a shaper high waisted breif on the bottom.

Easily the most comfy set up.

Love the look and its a keeper.

Normal boned 40$ from a dept store stretchy.

Very durable

Having taken on the site, forums, and all of the bills, from Dev (May 2020) and because I also want to be fully transparent about the cost of running the site, I feel it's time to update this information. Sorry that it has taken me two years since I last gave an update, just life getting in the way.   If you'd like to donate, please do so via the green bar at the top of the forum pages.  The months of July through October are pretty heavy with annual and semi-annual expenses and every little bit helps.   Here's the breakdown as it stands now:   Chat is now free. (Stu now runs the Chat)   Regular Charges: There are occasional one off's as well. Forums:  $70.00 every six months (February and August, effectively billed in January and July). (Was $45 until 2022, support ticket system depreciated!) Resource Locator:  $53.00 yearly, this "widget" failed this year, so I have been able to find a (currently) free replacement. Resource Locator Mapping: Google maps, currently under the minimum monthly usage, so free. Email Delivery: $5.00 monthly currently free, changed to a service that offers a much larger monthly allowance. Server Rental:  $30.00 monthly. Greatfully sponsored by The Breast Form Store. Security Software:  Now included in the package we have. Domain Renewals: Approx $75 annual charges for Transgenderpulse.com, Lauras-playground.com and the server domain. Contact Us Form Software: $79 yearly (August).   Total Monthly Breakdown: $54.50 per month.  (Annual bills = $654) Updated May 2024 (Slightly down on previous years).   Now then.  I'm on a fixed income, which means I know what it's like not having a penny to spare.  If you're not in a position to donate, please don't feel guilty; I didn't take over here to turn a profit.  The lights will stay on.  Donations are very much appreciated, but they are not a requirement of membership.   An update to clarify a couple of points: Because you have to use your legal name with PayPal, emails confirming your donation from PayPal will be from a name with the initials "DS", not Petra Jane and the email used is tgp (at) uk-web***   Unfortunately, we can only accept payment through PayPal, and please ensure that you have permission to make any donation through a PayPal account, we have been stung by someone alledgedly using a PayPal account without the owner's permission and incurred an additional $20 chargeback to refund the donation!   We have recently seen a number of these of late so I am asking that genuine donators please add your forum username in the comment box so that I, and I alone, will know who has sent the donation and that it is genuine. Thank you. Also, this appears only to Members who are logged in on the forums, New Members need to have made a minimum of 10 posts.   Let me reassure you: Donations help towards ongoing costs related to keeping the site running, including hosting, bandwidth, etc. It also encourages us to commit regular updates, add features, and improve the service. Our promise to you is that this site and its use will always remain free of charge.     Petra Jane

This is the dress I'll be wearing this evening while we watch the Kentucky Derby. Not sure if I'll throw on heels or flats with it - probably flats but I haven't worn heels in a while and the Force is strong.
