Hip/Pelvis Changes

I know that my mileage will vary, but I'm curious to hear experiences of those who have experienced hip/pelvis changes during their HRT.

For the past 10 days or so, I have experienced intense soreness in my hip area from my waist to my upper thighs. I haven't done anything differently. I am working out the same as always (20-30 minutes, 3-5x/week, strictly treadmill cardio) and I have not sustained any injuries that I am aware of.

I've also experienced some lower back pain that has never been there before. The only reason I'm curious is because I seem to get relief when I push my pelvis back giving a more anterior rotation. But honestly I never expected my pelvis to change or widen or rotate, but I'm not sure what else it could be.

I will definitely consult the doctor when I go in next month, but for now just curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Thanks

Ashley

I often have in my hips and lower back. Often it is quite bad but i'm much older and after years of construction work i expect my hips to fail. While the distribution of fats on my body are changing and there does seem to be a migration to the south i don't think the pain either you or i am experiencing is due to HRT. I would talk to your doctor however. I use ibuphren when the pain keeps me from functioning.

Hugs,

Charlize

I find it strange that you mention that. In my life I've only ever had pain in my hip once (I was ill). But over the last week, I've noticed pain in my right hip. I haven't been over exerting, though I've been stressed a bit.

Only on day 50 of HRT... makes me wonder though.

Hi,

Could be two or three things wearing of joints or wear and tear , arthritis setting in or the start of, bone structure continuly moving

repitison of joints , or one other i wont go there, or you have stressed your self or over exurted your self ,

I did running and had to stop because of the pounding on the road streets, knee,s said time to stop. so i did,

so your body is saying to much so slow down or stop for a while,

To take meds will only mask the real issue, there are a few more i know of though dont think they apply , oh dear i for got whats your age as that too has a bearing on details ,

Coming from a different direction I experienced a significant lessening of back pain-I think because of my change in muscle strength -it could be with loss of muscle strength you are actually stressing your back. Especially with changes in fat distribution.

Also I changed my posture and gait-a lot -even from my natural gate and posture before I was bedridden. It's part of unconscious body language often and I think as we transition we begin to make hundreds of changes in how we sit and walk and move and that could be stressing things too. I did notice at times my hips and joints seemed to be a little sore from moving slightly differently. Also if you are wearing different shoes more, especially heels-it will affect your hips and back. As does chest development because it changes center of gravity.

Definitely worth checking out but it may also resolve as your body adjusts to changes in muscle strength and posture and gate.

Wow, I'm so glad you've mentioned this Ashley,

I've experienced this too. I'd wondered if it was because of stress on my Liver and Kidneys because I've been getting aches in my lower back area BUT I've also been getting regular bloods taken for my endocrinologist to monitor all of my levels whilst prescribing my hormones. I know that my Liver/Kidney functions have been fine.

I've recently (about 2 weeks ago) pulled a muscle in my lower back which is thankfully well on the mend now. This was a different pain to the aching I've been experiencing on occasions though.

So, like is mentioned by some others here - it could be to do with the muscles becoming 'weaker'. I know that my strength is reducing and that the fat redistribution is well underway. On thinking, the lower back pain and the time I have been experiencing it have been roughly linked to the period that I have been noticing the most changes to my hip and thighs area. I've also been holding my stomach in much more too and so I wonder if that could be causing this lower back pain.

Interesting subject and I'm intrigued as to what other replies there will be to this.

The best thing that you can do for your back is stretching..exercise..You need to move and lubricate those joints and tendons..I've spent

a minor fortune on chiropractors. Alongside walking,swimming,biking,cardio..I like to stretch my back while slowly moving

back and forth on a staball..You try to get where you can touch the ground with your extended arms..

This was shown to me by a pshyical therapist friend in response to my complaints of stiff, sore lower back..Been trying for close

to 3 years and yet to touch the ground!!

Typically the bone plates of the pelvis are fully developed by 40. Even then significant changes in the actual pelvic bone on HRT even earlier on will be minimal. What you are likely experiencing if related to HRT at all, is related to tendons and muscles. If one notices widening hips, that's largely due to fat redistribution caused by HRT.

Seems to me some loss of muscle could perhaps explain all if your workout is constant.

Also perhaps changes have occurred where the treadmill is actually running faster or has a different incline than before even if it says the same? Controls are subject to change.

And then...well essentially if anyone does something long enough there will eventually be a point where things changes trans or not, on hormones or not cause we all get older and eventually that age starts to show.

Wikipedia mentions changes to hip rotation (presumably based on muscle changes)...then again it's wikipedia. But that means at least one person thought they experienced it.

Thanks Kira, I will have to look at Wikipedia and see what it says. Sure it isn't a great source, but I am interested in learning what might be possible. I think my hips look a bit wider, but I haven't had any pain associated with my hips or anything. I think my fat is redistributing, and it is clear that my muscles have changed, and shrunk under HRT. I don't like my broad shoulders, and narrowish hips, and I knew it would bother me if I tried transitioning. Worry over that held me back for a long time.

My hips do look wider though, and my natural waistline has gone up my body by a couple of inches nowadays, and that helps me look better to my eyes. I would love for my hips to become more feminine, that would make me very happy with my body's overall appearance. My shoulders and arms have visibly decreased in size due to muscle loss already, and that helps my GD. Now if my hips could feminize a bit more, wow would that be cool. :)

hugs,

Stephanie

Muscle atrophy in MtFs happens when taking HT and them means duplicating formerly normal activities may result in new soreness in muscles used. I have grown just a bit of fat, not really worth measuring.

Thanks. The pain went away pretty quickly so it was in all likelihood just changes to my body from continued workouts and age, though possibly minimally some of HRT. I know my bones won't change size, but I thought it may be possible that the pelvis was rotating back more due to changes in the muscles or tendons mainly due to HRT. There is a small window of chance, from my research, but it's highly unlikely.

Besides, I've grow to like my almost squareness to my body...hehe.

God bless

Ashley

I adore the Bee Gees. There's no way that I could link all their great songs in the above post. To me though, this song of theirs is head and shoulders above everything else:

My long hair is the single most important physical feature of my body which confirms the presence of my inner woman.   That said @SS, I am the 'other' sort of bi-gender. I am of the simultaneous type. I do not flip-flop between girl days and boy days either mentally or through presentation. For me, I am both primary genders at the same time, and the compromise is made through an androgynous presentation. When I look in the mirror, I can see either, but I am happy to admit that when I see a woman, I am happier.

Quite unexpected!   I had my weekly conversation with my father last night and he mentioned something he did that caught me totally off guard.  He was browsing garage sales and came across a nice blond wig, he decided to buy it and his wife was quite perplexed he said.  They had a dinner date with a couple that are friends since high school, and my father went dressed as a woman (with his wife's assistance). He said he did it as a "joke", but spent the entire evening dressed.

Thank you! So do I! Although I'm proud of what it portrays, I don't wear it often because I think it could be taken as being a bit provocative. One part of me says look at me, I'm proud to be on the rainbow and the other part says pull your head in, you're asking for trouble.   I do have a more subtle pride t-shirt that I visibly wear more often, here is a representation of it: "Moon phase rainbow" V-Neck T-Shirt by secretmagic | Redbubble
