Do You Hear the Voices?

Zack Laine

Do you hear the voices,

The boy who calls for aid?

Who tries so hard to fit the mold,

But in his soul betrayed?

Unable to accept himself,

A boy who lost his heart.

Loves a man, though told it’s wrong,

Soon he will depart.

Do you hear the voices,

The guy living on the street?

Not fit to work at just fifteen,

And now unable to eat.

Father made him leave his home,

Mother didn’t care.

Was crushing on the boy next door,

Sees now that life’s not fair.

Do you hear the voices,

The girl who’s left behind?

Spilled her heart to whom she loves,

Hoped she’d respond in kind.

Teased, outcast, rejected,

By the one she called best friend,

Cries alone, feeling a freak,

With her pain she can’t contend.

Do you hear the voices,

The kid who has no hope?

Always the target, always abused,

Now at the end of life’s rope.

Lost in deep depression,

A smile to feign “okay,”

Looking for salvation,

A head bowed low to pray.

Do you hear the voices,

The child who doesn’t fit?

When asked if they are boy or girl,

To neither will admit.

Stands outside the bathroom,

Unsure which one to use,

Not girl or boy, but in-between,

Yet always forced to choose.

Do you hear the voices,

The man that stands so tall?

So similar to other guys,

An audience he enthralls.

He tells his tale, of pain and strife,

Of failing to fit in.

Of teenage girl, who tried so hard,

To show the man within.

Do you hear the voices,

The girl who cries in fear?

Society shuns this teenager,

Who’s not as she appears.

No one’s there to save her,

To keep the wolves at bay.

As night begins, she walks the street

For surgery, she’ll pay.

Do you hear the voices,

Of those the world forgot?

Who tried so hard to be the same,

But found that they could not?

They do not wish to hurt you,

Though you may not feel the same.

Unwanted by so many,

Their confidence they must claim.

Do you hear the voices,

That ask you not to hate?

We aren’t bad we’re just ourselves,

I’m sure you can relate.

We cannot change what’s in our hearts,

Do you think that you could?

We’ll be ourselves, and you be you,

As God says that we should.

Zack,

Darn... (I'm still crying) What a poem!!... silence...

Oh gosh, I want to say so many things to you, but I am now speechless (darn).

Dear Zack, I had no idea how young you are!!! You are clearly very intelligent and gifted! Take heart my dear, it gets better!!! I know this seems trite, but truck on baby, you will get there!!! You are so strong and inspirational. I have been moved so many times by your words. You have so much to bring to the world!! You are so valuable my dearest. I know its impossibly hard, but keep being who you are!!! You are so special.

I love you so much

Thanks everyone. ^^ My goal was to capture everyone in the queer community, I'm pleased with the result. Except for the bi one, that turned out looking like another gay guy, but close enough. XD Thanks for all the encouragement. =3

And Bernie...I'm not THAT young. >_> I'm 18, finally a grown up! =D

Secretly still an 8 year old inside though. XD

Oh, it is so cute to us More Mature Members to see 18 as a sign of age!

I'm on my way to 4 times that!

You are very mature, young man and a very good writer.

Love ya,

Sally

I can't even describe it properly! It's absolutely beautiful and moving, even thats not enough to express how wonderful this poem is. It made me cry, I'm not even really into poetry and I love this!

Bravo Zack, bravo!

@LittleSamCongratulations on one of the biggest decisions. Looking forward to your progress.

I don't wear a bra to bed.  The girls aren't big enough to need it, but still enough to appreciate.  Just a flannel nightgown suits me fine.

Yeah, that is the point.  And of course they can be proud of themselves for saving humanity.   Yeah.  That would be scary.  I'd find a bush somewhere like our GOP governor candidate recommends.  So far I've gotten away with the women's.  I've been told I pass better than I realize.  But it would only take one a55h0le.   This is all so stupid.  I mean, who gets off on hanging out in a bathroom?
    • Ashley0616
Oh yes. It was not fun cleaning it up but he is better.

As I read this one, it is only for school bathrooms.  I hope he has signed a bill to triple the number of "security monitors" on the campuses and up their pay considerably, not to mention some other costly stuff.  Only way is for every school employee, to know the birth certificate information of each student by memory which will require 3 additional months of salary for them all.  It appears the enforcement relies on parental reports obtained from their children which opens so much up.  The kids will end up ALL with wet or soiled underwear while the parents go at each other with weapons over "family honor" over false calls based on childish name calling.

I agree. This law is impractical and impossible to evenly enforce without such ridiculous measures in place. What it will do is stigmatize the trans community in Oklahoma and nothing more but ofc, that’s the only point of it.   If I was in that state and needed a restroom, there’s no chance I’d ever step foot in the men’s restroom because of some law. I know I’m not alone in that thinking. This law won’t stand the test of time.

I asked AI to create an image of myself 30 years younger based off my avatar on another site and this was the result:     Wow! I am amazed how close it got my 30 year old face!

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.
