Trying to let things work; Red Tape

I've told this story else where but I'll hit the high points to get to my question.

I asked my Endo what I'd need to do so I could get a bilateral Orchiectomy. Ask my primary care Dr. was his answer. I saw my primary doc last Monday and asked him. He said he wanted to call my Endo and talk to him, and I would need to get a letter from my gender therapist. When he had this info he could talk with my insurance and convince them that this is medically necessary for me. When he's done that he can get me the refferal to the surgeon. Last Tuesday I talked with my gender therapist at our regularly scheduled session. At the end she had me sign a release form so she could write the letter and send it to my Dr. So everything is in in the process of getting done so I can get the Orchi. One day, hopefully soon, I will be able to be free of this burden. Oh happy day right.

My question, how do you wait and let the process work itself out? How long do I wait before I start calling to see what's going on? I know I've done what I can do. Now I just don't know how to wait. I mean, I have been waiting all my life, I just didn't know it until now. This kind of reminds me of when I was trying to get HRT started, only more intense. I want this NOW. And I don't know how to deal with having to wait on the red tape process.

How do you wait? You just do, because there is no choice but to. How long do you wait? Whatever seems a reasonable time. Given the time of year, I would give even your G.T. until a week or two after the holidays. That's the easy part, since you have an ongoing relationship with her. The longer wait is the one involving the insurance company, and any HMO or clinical group bureaucracy. That can take a while. My HMO took about two months to approve the referral, and another month to schedule an appointment with the urologist.

If this is the first case of this kind for your HMO or clinic, they may wrestle with it a little longer than they normally would. Then the question becomes, is the usual urologist they refer cases to familiar with dealing with a trans person? It shouldn't matter a great deal, because, as I've noted in my thread about my own orchi, the procedure is nearly identical to any other involving testicular cancer or other disease. They can get a bit fancy if they want to, but it shouldn't scare off an experienced urological surgeon.

Good luck, hon, and sorry if my answer was a bit long.

HUGS

Girl do i understand what you are feeling. It seemed to take forever to get everything together. Then i had my letters and all tests approvals etc and was in bed 3 days before i was scheduled and bam i had a heart attack. That was last March. I've gotten good at waiting and actually have begun to understand that i must simply enjoy today and the progress i've made. I do what i need to and oddly the time and hurdles pass. Imagine my surprise when i had to get new letters, medical approvals, lab tests and wait, 6 months at a minimum.

Well i got a call today and i'm on the schedule!!!!!! I'll post about that later but i hope you can hang in there and try to understand that while tears flow and frustration mounts acceptance and time make our journey so much smoother.

The high point is that you've been given a path. try to enjoy it as much as you can and the end will be even sweeter.

Hugs,

Charlize

When I was 15 my parents had placed me in a treatment center at a local hospital. While there my roomate and I started having a few problems. His personal therapist wanted tobring me into my roomates individual counseling session. So he got my chart when he got me, did a pretty quick review then turned to me and said, "You've had enough in patient treatment that you could do my job. Something that I went to school for years to do." And I told him, "Yeah, you saw me doing your job this morning, in group therapy." Refering to an incident that morning and he nodded in agreement, remembering what had happened that morning.

I guess I said all that just to say, everything y'all have said, I already know. I knew that before I posted. The knowing, how ever, doesn't make the waiting any easier though. Does it.

What does help is putting my thoguhts down and getting your input, your thoughts on things. Your stories, from frustrations, and road blocks, to clear paths, and celebrations. Just the simple act of comunicating with my sisters and brothers, that are familiar with my struggles, makes the time spent waiting MUCH easier. More enjoyable And it just might make that time pass a wee bit faster. ;)

hopefully you do know your not alone in those feelings and that there are others who share that with you and understand. When my son died years ago it was the folks who had lost children who gave the best support. It was just good to know someone understood!

Oh yes Charlize, the not being alone, is the one thing that makes the wait easier. Being able to discuss things with those who have been where I am now, listening to those who are coming behind me, just being able to hang out and chill with those who, while maybe not in my particular circumstances, do know the struggles I am going through and have been through. At times it seems as if, simply, not being alone, is the only thing that helps.

Today and tomorrow are the 2 days that I've been looking forward to since this timelast month. Today I saw my GT and found out that she hasn't written the letter yet. Tomorrow is when I see my regular Dr. I was going to ask him about the progress but now there is no need. I'm still waiting. I did tell my GT what somebody said here, about wishing there was a way to show health care professionals that Testosterone is a poison to MtF Trans* folk. To them there is not big urgency in anything involved with transitioning but for us it is often a life and death matter. They just don't get it. I do think that she (my GT) was starting to get it by the time my hour was up. Just wish that she'd understood things better LAST month. :banghead: :banghead:

Sounds like time for a new Body Technician hopefully one that is actually a Doctor Of Medicine, this one you describe is short of that mark.

I've been seeing my new treating doctor for quite some time now, whenever I'm advised to make an appointment. When it comes to seeing a new treating doctor, hard part is starting all over again building trust between patient and doctor. On my first day seeing my new treating doctor, before I could say anything else to her, she explained to me I needed to be completely honest with her. I kind of expected that type of patient profiling response from her, since she doesn't specialize in intersex care. Anyway, I sat down in the chair as I explained to my new doctor, I don't have all of my hospital records, certain records from my childhood and teenager years are mysteriously missing regarding a surgery. After my examination was over, she disregarded or showed no interest in searching for my missing medical records, but instead she blamed me for how I take care of my health today.

Had a customer bring in her Subie for struts. I ordered fronts. later yesterday, the boss called me into the shop. the proceeds to say I ordered the wrong ones, the fronts instead of rears. Then today I got looking I did order the right ones the first time. All the paper work that I have says front even the last work order said fronts. I told the other boss. So, Have I gotten a sorry from the boss. Ha, ha, not yet. I am doubting I will ever get one.   Oh, well. life goes on.   Kymmie

While I agree with a lot of the campaign personally, I don't think a government-mandated reduction in childbirth is really necessary. As a young person, I hardly know anyone who wants to be a parent in the future. I think a lot of people will either be waiting a while or not having kids at all, meaning that the number of kids being born will probably decrease. Overcrowding's also mostly an urban issue -- plenty of places in rural America have plenty of space for both people and growing food.    Of course, everyone sees things differently, so I won't necessarily say you're wrong. I just think my generation is a lot less inclined to the family mindset than some that came before us.

To me, it sounds like a solution searching for a problem.  I believe in the Russian perspective, that oil is abiotic and likely under every part of the Earth's surface.  There's plenty.  "Peak oil" and "climate" are excuses for government control.   As for roads, we use asphalt because tar and bitumen are a byproduct of fuel production, not the other way around.  Asphalt is not a great material, really.  It can also be recycled somewhat and used again.  Notice how road crews grind down existing asphalt into powder? Concrete is a better material for roads.  But in areas like where I live, very little of our roads are paved.  Gravel is a luxury, and a lot of roads are mud.  Same in many "developing" nations.  Pavement is better for transport, but its not like we would die without it.  Lack of pavement might actually be a good thing, as people might stay home more and food might be grown locally instead of relying on transportation.  It would stop this wacky idea of growing everything in California.     I believe the big crisis we face is globalism and government control.  Proposing some scheme to control our families? That's just more of the same.  Even if folks managed to get enough votes (or rig enough elections) to get the power to do that, it won't be as VP or president of the USA in its current 50-state form.

Very cool. I've been clumsily navigating the world of makeup so this may help. Some of the tutorials on YouTube are so advanced, they may as well be speaking Klingon :P

I've realized that our laptops are using much less plastic than they used to.  They are smaller devices that use less raw materials and are easier to ship and hold up better in shipping than bigger computers with removable parts.  They seem to have gotten rid of the overheating/fan problem for the most part, but there is a performance hit for that.  I use a 10yo desktop computer with a moderate level gaming video card to run 3 monitors.  I'm a producer though and most consumers have no need for that.   I really haven't watched TV since the 80's.  I spend some time researching on the internet and then I spend a lot of time meditating on the objects in my environment and on the streets.  From living on the streets for a year, I've learned that people can say anything and can control you, but the laws of physics and mathematics are outside of that and really even transcend time itself.  After people would not support my music, I built my life as a software engineer based on mathematics and engineering.  I've had a moderately successful career with that and have written code for many different industries.   The problem with stopping oil usage is that if we still need the bitumen to pave our roads and shingle our houses, then what do we do with the gas when we refine it?  There are natural deposits of bitumen, but you know, with so many people out there, demand is huge and we are using this stuff up.  If you grow corn for corn syrup, then what do you do with the cobs?  We've shipped coffee and bananas all over the world.  We took material from those environments.  What do we do now?  How long can it last?

I think that threats that can be proven should be incarcerated for half the sentence of the one they would commit if carried out.  Lies unfortunately are just words unless as you stated if not under oath.

I think it depends on where and how it's happening. We also need safe places where, the perhaps more easily intimidated, can feel free to express themselves.     And what about threats of violence?  Can this lead to a place where only the violent can have this freedom?  Is it "free speech" to threaten and intimidate opposing views into silence?  I mean maybe, if I can say anything - "if you don't shut up I'll kill you."   Or spreading lies?  (perhaps about an election). Lying is okay, unless you're under oath - for what that's worth.   Censoring books in schools?  That was fine until the bible was included.  (there is some nasty stuff in there) Then, there's what used to be that free speech birdie place.  You can denigrate queer people all you want, but "cis" is a slur, and prohibited?  Free speech as long as I like it? And let's not go into court cases and gag orders. Porn?
