well, Leo,

Remember these two things:

1) Your mother loves you and wants the est for you.

2) 99% of the information that most people have gotten about transsexuals is just gossip and almosty always wrong!

Stay with her, I believe that she is trying but battling against everything that she has ever heard about this.

As to sweating more - I have never heard that one!

Love ya,

Sally

Oh Leo, that's just a load of poo. Men's deodorant doesn't make you sweat more or less or anything. There's nothing in it that can do that. What commonly IS the case is that I think men's deodorant is a lot of times just deodorant that doesn't contain antiperspirant. Women's deodorant almost always seems to contain antiperspirant. You just have to read the label. If you get men's deodorant that contains antiperspirant then it will be the same as the women's, only it smells different.

My mom used to snoop my room when I lived at home. She said she didn't, but she totally did. You should leave something interesting around for her to find...like a little note. That's what I did to my mom. It said "Hi there, Mom. I see you are digging through my sock drawer. I hope you realize that I'd never be stupid enough to hide anything in here. Love, Ainsley".

Just wait it out. Things get better as you get older...mostly.

doubt it. I have a female friend who wears mens' deodorant (some long story about how she doesn't want to smell like sweaty berries and flowers.... I think..) and I think if that were true she'd be the type to freak out and stop wearing it. I noticed the opposite, really. It seems to work better for me than womens' deodorant and I sweat less.

I umm, don't use deodorant or perfume. It's never really caused an issue for me. I have no armpit hair which helps I guess. I also need a LOT to sweat, and its pretty odorless.

She just doesn't know, I think. People say dumb things sometimes without meaning to.

Deodorant

Antiperspirant

Scented

Unscented

Thats about it.

If you are MTF and on HRT, the estrogen will change your scent to more female - it's a chemical thing. I assume it's the same for FTM on T. So you may want to check how scents (deodorant, creames, perfumes, other good smelling lotions & potions) smell on the 'new' you. It takes a few months usually so don't check right away.

If you use a deoderant without an antiperspirant, it will mask the odors of the bacteria on your skin (the major cause of body odor) but will not decrease your levels of sweating. Stress hormones will ALSO produce odors, and are chemically in your perspiration, so if you are scared or freaked out, deoderants may fail you. This doesn't even take in what happens during sexual arousal!

If you use a deoderant WITH an antiperspirant, it will ALSO tend to reduce sweating, at least until it wears off. The bad news is it does this usually by blocking sweat ducts, which can give some people trouble. So be sparing when testing out a deoderant with an antiperspirant to make certain your skin will tolerate it.

It's said men sweat more than women. This actually depends upon the size and genetic make-up of a person. Women tend to be smaller, and are sometimes less robustly active physically, tend to work indoors, so we CAN sweat less - but there is no guarantee. If you have a sweat gene - you will sweat.

Men also tend to not shave the hair under their arms. Hair is actually nature's way to keep arms from chaffing [hair is slick] - BUT hair can collect and hold odors.

Estrogen is sweeter smelling that the chemicals of testosterone, so a woman's odor may be more pleasant. But a woman has a higher sense of smell, which helps in child rearing - which makes us acutely aware of odors. And not to be indelicate, women have other parts of the body to worry about... so we want to constantly feel and present as clean and odor free as possible [even T-girls]. Odor radar in a woman can be super-sensitive.

So looking at all that, women usually want a deoderant with a pleasant scent, and probably an antiperspirant as we want to protect expensive clothing. Also, our lower activity indoors seems to keep us drier, which some may attribute to the antiperspirant. So there is the misconception.

Men may prefer an unscented deoderant, as they cannot depend upon an antiperspirant when sweating a great deal. Plus males tend to ignore perspiration - its a masculine thing to sweat, in their opinion.

So that is sometimes how it works out. You will need to test the various combinations to see what works for you.

I always used 'Secret" before transitioning because I liked the subtle hint of smelling feminine. That's what we transsexual do, affirmation of femaleness [or maleness] in the most ridiculous ways, sometimes. Now my scent has changed on HRT, I have to use another product for a better scent - but actually I really DO smell female now - an amazing thing! And I seem to 'perspire' less [a lady never 'sweats'- she glows!]. Donno - maybe moma was right? Its more likely I no longer have the strength to move and grunt and strain , doing 'man' things. I also rather stay in an air-conditioned house or office. It keeps my clothes and ... emmmm... make-up, fresher.

Hope this helps

Lizzy

I don't know anything about sex differences in sweat amount or sweat patterns. However, it does seem like I sweat more on T. That might just be due to working out more or something though. I'm not sure. I sweated a lot before T also, as does my sister. We've all got the sweat gene.

Okay like everyone else said, that's bull feaces! That's all I have to say, and I personally don't feel a need to use deodorant that often. but axe seems to do the trick.

Guest April63

I know a girl who likes to wear Axe. But it's supposed to smell good right?

As for sweating more, that was probably due to the confusion about the deodorant being anti-perspirant or not. You can find deodorants with anti-perspirant in them that are for guys, but some are only deodorants. Just read the label.

I've had the same deodorant for years (way before this whole issue) which I think purely by accident (maybe) was a men's deodorant. I do sweat more now, but like I mentioned in the Smells topic, I think it has to do more with my core body temperature. I'm much more likely now to be warm than to be cold. I can also tolerate the cold a lot better now. Which also means that I believe I'll have more trouble tolerating heat now too.

So if someone hears about a Civil War reenactor spontaneously combusting at a reenactment this summer, it's me.

lol at the last line

I'm the opposite, my core temperature is pretty low. I tolerate the cold badly, and the heat easily. I'm at my best in the middle of summer. If I don't do any streneous activity for a while (mowning the lawn), I will not sweat.

Playing nice are we boys? :D

I think Jackson may be referring to 'sweating more' being associated with masculinizing hormones and body temperature change rather than a deoderant ;)

I think the time has come for me to share my theory of deodorants. I've noticed that, over time, whatever brand of deodorant I'm using stops working so well. All is well for a time.... then.... BAM! B.O.

This makes me sad. Although I relish in my stink, others do not.

Since bacteria in the pits cause the stink, I believe that one's armpit flora and fauna might adapt to a certain brand. Now I switch between about 3 brands periodically. Sometimes I still stink, but at least I feel like I'm being proactive.

Yeah, that's it. I swear I'm going to spontaneously combust this summer. My orally measured temperature used to be around 96.8 F and now I'm near 98 F usually. Combine that with three layers of clothing with the outermost layer being heavy wool and ambient air temperatures around 90 F and I'll be like a vampire. A big poof and a pile of dust.

Dude, when I lived in South Carolina I used to play paintball out in the woods wearing BDU's. The summers were so HOT I'd almost get heat stroke. I can't imagine wearing wool over multiple layers. You seriously may incinerate. Either way, I wouldn't want to smell your outfit after a day or so. I bet that stuff is ripe.

My temperature has always been like 98.3 when it's normal. I haven't taken it lately. I do feel hot more often, but I don't know why. Man, the first couple months after starting testosterone I had hot flashes like nobody's business.

Seriously leo, that is complete rubbish. I don't know where your mum has gotten that one from. I know tones of women, striaght women, and gay women, who wear mens deodorant just because they like the smell more than ones made for women.

The worst part is that I've already had heat stroke several times over the past couple of years. Now I might as well just give up and have someone keep a fire extinguisher or something. I really don't know what I'm going to do this summer. To be authentic, most of us don't wash our uniforms. If we do, it's only one or twice while owning the articles of clothing. Seriously.

So what is one of the best deodorants on the US market today? Seems like I'll need the best.

Not washing stuff probably does add a lot to the authenticity!

Maybe keep some ice packs in your jacket?

I have had good luck with the Right Guard stuff that has that stripe down the middle. Good stuff.

Hey, the ice packs in my jacket would work. Not for long probably but it's worth a shot.

I'll buy the Right Guard the next time I go to town. (That sounds so country, but I can't help it.)

I'm a masculine woman. It's not about masculinity though. It's about expanding what it means to be a woman.

It never rains but it pours.  We had a dry spring, but now my garden is a swamp and my yard is a pond.  Get off the gravel road, and you'd need a hovercraft.    With nothing better to do, I'm going on a short trip with my husband tomorrow.  Since he's in management he usually doesn't do this sort of work, but whenever he does I usually go along.  And he already knows not to try staying in a hotel, because I want to sleep in the bunk in the truck.  So much more cozy.    And for a couple of days, GF can actually take care of her own kids instead of leaving them to me....

I have played clarinet, but without talent.  And while I *can* sing, I think listening to it would be an acquired taste.

Hey all,   It's been a while, but I blogged a whole series on makeup.  It's an eight-part series where I talk about my techniques.   Here is the link to Part 1:       Hopefully the blog series is helpful.

I do spoken word acting, and give Trans 101 talks and other public speaking.  I wear make-up for those occasions.  Sephora is easy for me to get to, and has a foundation that does a good job for me and the sales folks there are Trans Friendly.  Their eye shadow pallets are also fun to use. Another source of my foundation is Ulta which carries Dermablend that does a consistent job of my lower face and chin.   I just use good old Revlon lipsticks because I ruin them by leaving my purse in the hot car too often.

I'm not interested in makeup, jewelry or nice clothes or girly stuff.  It's made me wonder at times.   It saves some money.  If I wore a skirt it would likely  be denim.  I thought about a woman's skirt suit but nah.   Neither of my sisters are into that stuff either.  One likes peasant chic (still a 60s flower girl)  and the other - the only time she has ever worn a dress was at her wedding.  Jeans at all other times.   Jeans and t shirt here.  Content being a girl.  Weirdo. Weirda? Never mind.

@Ladypcnj Before posting links to other group's websites, PM one of the Staff (preferably an Admin) and have them check that site out.   We have specific rules here regarding age appropriateness and would need to know that the other site is in line with those rules.  We do have members here between 13 and 18 and other sites need to be safe for that age range, legally and otherwise.  Also, we are not a dating or pick-up site, not do we allow people selling things to advertise here.  As I said clear the link with a moderator or admin before posting it.  Mod's and admins do check out posts and if we find problem links we will remove them and notify the OP of a rules violation.  Go to https://www.transgenderpulse.com/community-rules to understand where we are.

Yeah, ELF is a good brand, another brand is Revlon ColorStay last 24 hours.
