Good Article on the Problems Mormons Face with Trans People

That's interesting. years ago, when I was in a local TS support group, we had a member from Salt lake City. She told us, that to be accepted as TS, they had to be working towards total transition, and identify as straight, sexually. That was in the late 1990's, so maybe things are changing for them.

Another group reacting to the knowledge that perhaps gender and sexuality are not related. It sounds as if thy may be making progress in accepting both the gay and transgendered community. interesting that the pope was mentioned because while he certainly has not recognition in the mormon faith his actions do seem to be effecting the leadership.

I'm sure this will be a welcome change in direction for some of our members.

Hugs,

Charlize

I remember back in the late 70's the church "finally" allowed black men to hold the preisthood.

Their views toward Trans* seem to be changing at about the same speed. Can we expect a devine revelation sometime in the near future ?

The church opened up the priesthood in 1978.

I was trying to avoid commenting on this, but I guess I'm doing it now. I don't see anything special in the "press conference" the church had. The church has been supporting anti-discrimination laws for housing and employment. That isn't new. The church (particularly Dallin Oaks) has been vouching for religious freedom. Nothing new there. The church made it look like something big was coming, and nothing came.

Afterards, Oaks says there are a lot of things they don't know about transgender. I still don't think there's anything new there. It really isn't mentioned much in church resources. It doesn't come up in church discourse like homosexuality does. Now, we can view this as a statement that the church is going to look into the issue more, but Oaks didn't actually say that. I thnik that's more wishful thinking. I think the church needs a much bigger push before that will become a reality.
