Yeah as Ive said before when I felt being able to do makeup almost flawlessly was out of my reach I got super obsessive about teaching my self, so I actually learned how to use the majority of these brushes . While my look is punk leaning towards goth at this point, there is still a lot of really amazing subtle things you can do with makeup that aren't too over the top. Really though to achieve a good look you don't have to go to sephora and sink 500 dollars on every kind of brush they have there. (Yes buying a complete set of professional brushes can run you in the hundreds of dollars). In my experience you can really achieve a lot with a pretty basic brush set, but to achieve certain looks you might have to get creative.

For me lately my look has been a touch of the living dead girl look.. so Ive been using a few colors of blush to really contour my cheeks while using strong darker colors and lines on my eyes to create a really intense but still a really pretty look.

It is interesting with brushes! I use a few makeup brushes but with my art and having a fair collection of paint brushes I use these for a lot of tasks. Good paint brushes are as expensive as makeup brushes but I have quite a few synthetic paint brushes which were not expensive and are soft enough for makeup use. They come in many shapes / styles as well.

Yes, I see what you mean, Charlize. Sheesh! I had some expert help at the very beginning, from my son's GF, and some tips from Youtube and the folks at Sephora. Over time, I've found what works for me, that isn't too complicated. I'm sure I could do better, but I know damned well that I could do worse.

I have one foundation brush, one blush brush, and one eye shadow brush. I don't go to the trouble of using bronzer and highlighter, and rarely use mascara. I can do my face in 10 minutes or less. if ever I was invited to some swanky party, I might go to a parlor and have a makeup artist give it a whirl, but otherwise, as the song says, I "live a simple life."

This can be a daunting and expensive task. Painting of the face is an art unto itself, and discarding what appears to be perfectly good expired products keeps the multi billion dollar cosmetics business thriving. We are not privy to the ingredients in many of these secretive formulas, which some can be harmful to us users. One way to check on many products (71000+), is the environmental working group or www,ewg.org . They list products across the board and their ingredients if they are harmful, from deodorant to toothpaste to sunscreen and make up, check it out for your safety.
