Canadian TG Rights Bill Amended; Won't Apply to Restrooms

What a pity that restrooms are the problem once again. As a young activist i might have hoped for a "pee in". If trans* folks are denied the facilities perhaps the halls of government offer an alternative place for relief.

Seriously i'm sorry this has delayed equal rights for my northern neighbors.

Hugs,

Charlize

That kinda sucks, I used to visit Canada frequently, and loved the liberal atmosphere (I used to live in Washington D.C., a high stress, conservative sorta place at the time). It could be years before I get SRS, and if this thing goes into effect, I would be breaking Canadian law if I visited again, and needed a restroom. :( That is just weird. I am so sorry for our neighbors to the North.

hugs,

Stephanie

Oh no. Transgenders pose such a threat to the public and we should ban them from using their own bathrooms. Lock up your children, folks.

Is this all of Canada?

Well it isn't just restrooms...

Plett’s amendment would not apply to transgender people who have had a surgical sex change, but it would apply to those who take hormone therapy without surgery.

Assuming this is correct, I agree it is too restrictive. People on hormones should be covered and I would say anyone in the process of changing gender roles should.

I wonder where it would have drawn the line for access to women's facilities without the amendment. Would it have been the "because I say so" standard or would it only apply to those transitioned or transitioning gender roles?

I don't think you should be embarrassed to be Canadian any mor than i have to be embarrassed to be from the US. (she says this with a very red face)

Maybe we should be ashamed to be from North America.

I am getting a sinking feeling that this issue will become the line drawn in the sand for us. And like this person in Canada did, others will follow suit without a shred of evidence too.

You know that the idiots are always trying to pass stupid laws. Well in their face, my drivers license and my passport has a letter F in the sex box. I'm using the ladies room no matter how many stupid laws they want to pass. So they can just get over it.. I know which bathroom I'm going to use. If I need to pee and some fool tries to block me from entering the bathroom. I pity that fool. Law or no law. Kathy

I wish the people who make these stupid laws would do some studying of what is required by the medical field for ones to get the surgeries. Or are they going to make it where people don't have to live as there preferred gender for a period of time before having surgery. But what about the people that don't need to have surgery but need to take hormones and dress as their true gender to get through life.

Restaurants and other places where public washrooms and changing areas are available will have to hire security guards to protect the MTF in the men's and the FTM in the women's from being attacked and harmed. The economic fallout can have an effect on businesses that don't provide the protection for the patrons regardless of gender as well as the businesses surrounding them. If people can't go out to eat without being afraid of having to go to the washroom then they will either order out and eat at home or just buy groceries and make the meals at home. Businesses will close their doors and jobs will be lost in great numbers.

This is just my 2 cents on the whole thing.

And going along with your "security guard" hiring, Danielle. I'm not sure about any of you, but I'd definitely feel a little uncomfortable with a security guard "up in my grill". I honestly can't believe this passed. I'm so furious I want to spit fire.

God Bless
