Why Do You Girls Always Have A Cartoon Or Painting As Your Avatar?

I just noticed, I've only seen maybe 3 girls that have a picture of them selves and not an picture from a cartoon or some kind of picture that someone drew/painted. I was wondering what it is with that? O.o

I'm a FTM but I like Star Wars, thus I perfer to stare at my Star Wars avatar then at myself.

There are a lot of MTFs with their pictures in their avatar too. If you did compare fully I don't really think either side has more or less.

Kia Ora Zabrak,

 I would think it's more to do with letting others put a 'face' to a 'name',[well that was my intention] instead of staring at a blank wall or cartoon character of some sort...and not so much vanity-but I could be wrong and if so, each to their own ;) ...

Starkiller is super sexy(the guy in my avatar). I guess your way makes sense too.

I prefer my logic , though. :D

well Mr. Awesome,

Girls have to be more careful about being identified - It is a fact that women (including Trans women) are attacked more often than men (including trans men).

Attackers as a rule are cowards and therefore do not look for a target that is more likely to ba able to defend themselves.

Women - even very large trans women are considered by the average idiot, I mean attacker, to be an easier target than even a smaller trans man.

That's life and we have to deal with it so in my case I drew an avatar and someone so very special to me modified it into the gorgeous angel that you see - I can never change that - it was a gift and a gift of love.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Love ya,

Sally

I do it because I don't have a good picture of myself and the cartoon or picture that someone else drew shows more of the qualities I see in me than my face ever could in a real picture. Besides I feel safer with fewer people knowing what the real me looks like ... in this world that means a lot.

I think illustrated avatars do a better job of putting "faces" to names, they can be considered distillations, iconic in ways. Two points that motivate my position:

1. I'm simply terrible at reading faces.

2. My look is mutable enough that my IDs often don't work, and family members occasionally fail to recognize me.

The security angle sounds like good enough justification for me!

Shameless, besides, you should see my picture on my profile page. :D

We never compete! :D

Get out of the way Donna Jean, I'm posting now!

This was the first site I felt safe enough to ever post any pictures of myself on. Now I'm caring less and less about who see me, but for me it was a security issue in the beginning.

This may be true that they're considered easier targets - especially trans women. But women in general? Just check the stats on assault in Canada or the US, probably 2-3x higher against men than women, although women are the ones in fear about going outside after dark. Paradoxal really.

I have my real picture and don't mind it. Spot me in real life? Well, so what? I've never been assaulted since transitioning, which isn't something I can say for pre-transition (including a death threat). I'll believe my luck will continue thanks.

before my transition, I felt anime characters were a better face to my name. I didn't want people to associate me with my real life face. I imagine some people who are pre E or pre T feel the same. Just a hunch though.

I do use Watarase Jun as my avatar. But its clear on my profile, and in one of the forum here (the one about passing) that I'm not shy about posting pictures. I posted over 30 pictures of me.

That's why I wanted a pic of me as my avatar. To see the person behind these cyber messages.

I'm a little careful of posting current pictures online.. and I'm really wary of people again after last week.

I can change my look pretty radically on a day to day basis but a couple of years ago I looked like the thing I have stuck on this post XD

Woman tend to be more self-concious about their appearance.

If the woman has had to be a guy for a portion of thier life... one can see why they'd be withheld to post pictures up.

I'm on fb as female under my new name... sooo I don't worry so much about that anymore. :)

it looks like most of us girls have come to a compromise - a drawn avatar but a real photo on our profile. Like me :) Sometimes an avatar represents people better than a body that doesn't suit them...

Hmm I kinda have a hard time choosing avatars lol...I generally prefer not to put up personal pics of myself..on here the one I currently have, well Hinder is one of my favorite bands and the lead singer is one of the guys I'd ultimately (I say ultimately because it is kind of a stretch lol) like to model my image/looks after. :)

And to justify the girls having more cartoon avatars...if that's actually true...gotta say some of those cartoon girls are pretty cute so I can't blame you for using them as your avi's :D lol

We have been asked to bring the following to the attention of our members. Please note that you would need to send an email to receive the actual survey link.   Seeking Interview Participants for Research Study on Digital Spaces of Transgender Belonging What is the Study About? Over the past several decades, the Internet has fundamentally changed how trans people form community spaces, explore gender identity, and practice community care. My dissertation will evaluate trans people's relationships to digital trans spaces, and I am conducting interviews as part of this research study. Who Qualifies? To qualify for this study, you must: • Be 18 years of age or older, • Identify as transgender or otherwise gender nonconforming (such as, but not limited to, nonbinary, genderqueer, genderfluid, agender, or Two-Spirit), • Have sought out online transgender resources or communities, AND • Currently live in the United States. What Does It Involve? A brief (five minute) screening survey, later followed by a virtual interview lasting approximately one hour. You will receive $75 after participating in an interview as compensation for your time. Your participation in this interview is completely voluntary. If you choose to participate, you will be asked to reflect on your history with trans online communities and resources. Data Usage and Confidentiality Policy This research study is being conducted as part of a Ph.D. dissertation, which will be published. Raw or identifiable data, including interview transcripts and recordings, will not be made publicly available. Analysis from this study may be presented publicly or included in future publications. Further, your confidentiality will be respected during this study. The data collected for the study will be de-identified prior to any analysis, publication, or report resulting from the study. Identifying documents, such as consent forms, will be stored separately from all other data on a password-protected computer. This will head for a court case and the notable fact that the people opposing puberty blockers is that they have not revealed their source and its competence.  It will be present the evidence and let your "experts" sit on the grill above the hot coals.

Pretty typical for many nations.... corrupt police, and only great effort by the victim's family will eventually yield prosecution.  Conviction is uncertain, and sentencing even more so.

Welcome to Trans Pulse, Bobbi.  It's nice to meet you.  I remember well all the emotions you mentioned upon starting on this journey, about 15 years ago now.  It's an exciting, albeit scary time, and there will be many questions and decisions along the way.  Any way we can help, all you need to do is ask.  We'll be here for you.   HUGS   Carolyn Marie

Everyone is their own person and has their own way of operating in the world. Being “enough” isn’t for anyone to judge, outside of maybe our closest loved ones, and definitely not those that are trying to measure themselves high by cutting others down. They know I wouldn’t succeed for very long—or at all—keeping my life bifurcated as you, but I am happy you are content with where you’re at with yourself.

My kids are grown now.  I realize I don't know the half of what they did.  But my parents didn't know the half of what I did either.  It's just how it works.   You kinda know, but please spare me the details.

@MaeBe, Good luck and best wishes on the new start in the Great Northwest. I don’t know a parent that didn’t call out their kids for being drunk or high as rebellious teenagers. I just told my teens that they can’t kid a kidder, and I was a teenager early 1970s we could drink legally at 18 so I have tons of experience spotting drunk kids.    As for the poetry, I liked it.  We never have enough support bras or tee shirts in the rotation.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Oh my @KymmieL, I’m sorry you’re on the job hunt again. They didn’t seem to be a good fit for you anyway. You deserve to be treated fairly and not undermined by competing owners who don’t communicate well.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
