Church and Pride Proud -- Some Do Accept and Love

One VERY tired, sore, and sunburned, Episcopalian Trans* girl here right now. I have to get out of my chair and take a shower, but I am too darn tired to do it.

The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles LGBT ministry group puts a parade unit in the LA PRIDE / Christopher Street West parade each year, and this was my second year to go with them. Our Diocesan Bishop celebrated Holy Communion with the group in a parking lot in the parade assembly area at 9AM, and then we had a two and a half hour delay until it was time for our group to pound the pavement. The Bishop and his wife rode in a convertible in front of us, and in between us was a Bagpipe Band that uses one of our churches for it's practice sessions. I had not remembered the group having a Trans* Pride flag last year, so I brought mine along, and begorra we had a Trans* banner among the church flag and GLB flags. From my point of view it greatly improved the looks of the group. (snark)

There were two of us in the group who were out Trans* out of another 30 or 40 people (excluding the Pipe Band) who are actually wonderful people who I am getting to know. I traded off carrying the Trans*Pride flag with the other girl at about the halfway point. We did have a breeze coming in off the ocean which made the flags look good but hard to hold. Along the parade route was one H8 religious group making their yearly show-off stand. To me they seemed actually pathetic and childlike in their thing this time, but I do not think they even figured out from looking that we were a church group too.

I had parked my car at the end of the parade route and walked to our Communion site, and our lineup site. I might still be plodding back to the car if I had not done it that way.

Sounds like a wonderful experience Vicky! I'm sure you didn't wear heels! You even made it back to our meeting and it was great to see you there.

Hugs,

Charlize

You bring up one interesting image Megan -- why is it that the H8 groups use those tinny sounding Bull Horns and not some good noise amps? That is going to be bothering me as a question for a bit. :dunno::P:doh1:

If I were not happy with my Church Home, I would highly consider the UCC as a group to be happy and proud of. Neither you nor they poisoned each other by being together and it sounds like you had a great time for sure.

I am sorry for your struggles. I cannot empathize, but I can surely sympathize. I wish only the best for you!

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

I can relate.  I have always played a female character when given the opportunity. Not really and reason except I just alway pick them since I was young

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Welcome to the party, M.A.     Sounds chaotic haha, I can confidently say that living with only two children the same age is stressful enough, much less three!

Things hit the fan today. I was reminded that "this is not a gender fluid establishment."   I had changed my preferred name and gender at the hospital on their app. My x-ray report came in with my preferred name and gender. It was not appreciated by the centre. 😬
