Srs And Social Security

Hi everyone-I have a question that I can't seem to get an answere to, so I will turn to my friends here. I have just received my first disability check from social security and I am wondering if anyone knows if social security will cover some of my SRS? Jolene

I am also on disability for a cervical spine injury and from what I've been told and through some research, social security won't cover any of the srs. I have state medical assistance here in Mn. and so far it is covering all the costs of my therapy and doctor visits for hrt but nothing else. The actual cost of my hormones falls under an out of pocket expense but fortunately that cost is relatively minor. I'd love to hear if anyone else has heard anything different.

Isn't there any websites for the specific agency that lists what is covered and is not?

With some major companies insurance covering us and with the AMA coming out this year including us in their nondiscrimination policy and I believe there is legislation in Congress to also include all transgendered people in nondiscrimination, this may open the door for us. I think this can get to be a very complicated topic.

So far with all of the research I've been doing I haven't found much information either way. I'm fortunate at this time that my federally funded medical assistance is covering all of the cost of therapy, all but $3 of visits to my OB/Gyn for HRT prescriptions and monitoring, and all but $1 of the actual prescriptions. I'm figuring that since the spironolactone is sometimes used to control high blood pressure they assume that's why I take it. I'm not sure what their thoughts are with the estrogen.

I wonder how it will affect my disablity?I am so afraid of them stopping it before i finish my journey.

Then,making ends meet will be very difficult,and still keep the time frame i set to be complete.

Hi Angie,

I just recently had my name legally changed as part of my divorce, January 3,2008, and afterwards had to go about changing everything from my old name to the new one. When I went to the local social security office to inquire about it all I had to do was show them the court order and they switched everything to my new name. I recieved a new social security card in the mail about 2 weeks later with the new name but original number and my disability checks were changed to reflect the new name. Other than the name change everything stayed the same. When you go to have it done make sure you inform them you recieve a check or they will just do the card and you'll have to do it all over again. It took me about 20 minutes in the office, mostly wait time to have everything done.

Make sure the copy of the court doccument is certified though or they will refuse to do anything. When I got mine I purchased 3 extra copies ($10 each) and had no problems getting my drivers license, medical records, pharmacy records, social security, and medical insurance changed over.
