A fun makeup purchase

Guest

Recommended Posts

Stopped by a drugstore in a nearby city yesterday to buy some makeup ( lip stick and eyebrow pencil). I was riding a motorcycle so had on full motorcycle gear, although I left the helmet on the bike.

The young girl at the register had lovely, if a little over-the-top makeup and multi-colored glitter nails. . She looked at me as she rang up the sale and asked "Are these for you?" . I answered yes and she smiled. She asked "Do you know how to use this stuff?". I responded that I thought I could figure it out. She smiled again and said she thought there were instructions on the back. She said "Have a good evening sir", I wished her the same and left.

Overall a very pleasant, if a little surprising, encounter.

I ordered my first makeup purchased online and just got it in today as well. Lots of fun stuff to play with and I'm so happy to get to play with it.

One good reason why I like to shop for makeup wearing makeup and ideally looking fairly feminine - I hate being hasseled by staff (even though they are trying to help). As a female or similar it seldom happens but as a man assistants almost always ask if I need help. The same happens in clothes shops. Being feminine and confident makes life simpler!

I must admit I get a kick out of shopping for feminine things ( makeup, clothes, shoes and lingerie) in my male persona. Keeps them guessing. It was very nice when the SA took the risk to inquire if the makeup was for me and I could say yes.

Haven't gotten to the point where I have gone out in public dressed yet. Maybe someday I will develop the courage and confidence.

Hi Erica,

I know it takes a lot of courage to take that first step and go out dressed. Believe me though, after you do it the first time you will be kicking yourself for not doing it earlier when you realise you will not be ridiculed/ laughed at/ arrested etc! It's an intensely liberating experience and I urge you to try it sooner rather than later.

Considering I just came out to my wife, I am long way from that. But, I did just make my first major purchase of make-up yesterday today. Haven't gotten the chance to try it out though.

I also look forward to the day when I can go out dressed. I'm part of a meetup group that holds events at TG friendly venues, and I'm hoping to go to one of these soon. But I'm no where near put together enough to go out confidently. I have an appointment for a makeover / fashion consult with someone in the area who does makeovers professionally for the TG community, and I'm so excited for this I can hardly wait. My hope is that after my appointment I'll have some good inspiration on how to complete my look and then ... hopefully ready for the world :-)

Hi Courtney,

Hope you don't mind my commenting. I'm the supportive wife of a CD, my S/O came out to me in April after years of being in the closet. I've gotten quite an earful, and photos of her early experiences going out dressed. Professional makeovers were a huge part of her transitioning from a clumsy guy dressed as a girl to the gorgeous lady she now presents. So go for it! As a woman who loves to wear makeup--it's worth it to invest in a few quality items for facial hair coverage, concealer, contour and a good foundation. FYI: Bare Minerals does free makeovers for customers and the quality of their products is very good, especially if you're like me and have allergy prone sensitive skin. My SO loves their lip-liner and lipstick :-). Bare Minerals makeup is sold in department stores, Sephora and they also have their own (small & intimate) stores, typically in malls. The gals in our local store are not shocked by Trans and CD folks.

The main reason for writing is to tell you about an event that might be great for your first time out in public. It's a TG event in Provincetown, MA in late October, called Fantasia Fair. My SO plans to attend, he's invited me but, as a shy GW I'm not sure I'm ready for the P-Town scene, but after reading on the Fantasia Fair web-site that they encourage couples I'm seriously considering it. My SO went last year and participated in the fashion show, she's such a ham!

Good luck,

GiGi

Hi GiGi,

Thanks for the support. It all went so well, I had a great time, and since then my time "out" has increased exponentially. Don't know if I'm ready for something like Fantasia Fair, but I'm hooked up with a meetup group near where I live and they have TG friendly events all the time, I was just at one last night and it was a blast, but thanks for thinking of me. Your SO is lucky to have you!

It did take me quite awhile to try again after being arrested, misunderstood and laughed at, but the urge keeps drawing me back. I prefer shopping for feminine things en femme. Perhaps the times have changed, or perhaps I have.

Love,

happy trans birthday! I can't speak personally on the subject, but I hope hormones bring you the changes you're looking for <3

That’s super healthy, to see that something that becomes common has less effect on you and that you are able to decipher these feelings.   Sadly, this trend tends to only deaden good feelings as we tend not to let bad feelings attenuate the same way.   I have noticed less euphoria, but still feel the dysphorias that I have. Sometimes the good sneaks in and reminds me, but often time it’s just me seeing myself in the mirror and being comfortable about what I see when embracing my realized self. I may not get the same buzz I once did, but I don’t feel incongruous when looking at a more “drab” reflection.    Wishing you strength, you are amazing!

Congratulations! and Happy Trans Birthday @LittleSam! That is such a BIG milestone.  I can still remember walking out of my clinic with my first HRT presciption.  I was on Cloud-9.  Wishing you all the best in the start of your new Journey!

maebe thank you I try to be. I thank God for blessings, try to share them, beg forgiveness for my shortcomings n vow to try to do better...2 priests have said no, God doesn't condemn you just for being trans...but apparently evangelicals do   I shall vtry dear thank you

Meet him at the being good to others part of Christianity. At the heart of it, there are excellent tenets of the faith. Those that condemn are judging, Jesus would have us be selfless; stone casting and all that. Are you a good person? Are you putting good into the world? If your gender is an issue for God, let God judge. In the mortal realm, let your actions be heard.

Let’s stick to cite-able fact. Most of my posts have been directly in relation to LGBTQ+ rights as it pertains to P2025 and I have drawn direct links between people, their quotes, and their agenda. I have made reference to the cronyism that P2025 would entail as well, by gutting, not cutting, broad swathes of government and replacing it with “conservative warriors” (I can get you the direct quote, but rest assured it’s a quote). All this does is constantly force the cogs to be refitted, not their movement. To say that agencies have directly defied a President is a bit much, the EPA did what Trump told them to do at the direct harm to the environment, the department of agriculture did the same by enacting the administrations forced move to KC which decimated the USDA.      How about Betsy DeVoss for Education? Or Bannon for anything? What about the revolving Chief of Staff position that Trump couldn’t stay filled? Or the Postmaster General, who did much to make the USPS worse?   Let’s not mix politics with racism, sexism, or any other ism. Because Trump made mainly white, male, appointments—many of them not, arguably, people fit for service—or unwilling to commit to term. I can argue this because, again, he’s up for election and will do what he did before (and more of the same, his words).   Please delineate how the selected diversity appointments have negatively affected the US, other than being black, women, or queer? Representation matters and America benefits when its people are inspired and empowered.
