Welcome To My World

Here is my world of mists and shadows

Shrouded in secrets and darkness

Cloistered in silence and denial

A secret world of shame and stress

Your world has no place in it for me

I don’t fit in your sense of the norm

I can’t understand for I mean you no harm

I hide from your hate, your fear and your scorn

A new day is dawning the times have changed

A crack in the shades has let light into my life

The mists begin so slowly to simply melt away

The shadows give way and so it seems my strife

I am standing here before you just as I am

You see the outside and think it so strange

I in women’s clothing but to you still a man

The time has come and indeed time for change

My world has broadened, I hope you don’t mind

Your world is so big and open but not so in mine

I would think that with so much space we could share

Let’s give it a try, you respect me and I will treat you in kind

Stepping from darkness to this world bathed in light

So hard to believe it can harbor such hatred and spite

A lack of understanding the basis for fear and hate

Understanding the cure to help set things right

I will tell you about me and try to explain

If you promise to listen and not just to flee

I have had to hide, to pretend and live a lie

No room in your world for someone like me

I will not close my shades to hide, to make you at ease

I need to share the light, the space and the beauty outside

Do you really want me to sit in the dark away from your sight

It’s my time in the sun, there’s enough to share so you decide

So I know it's dark honey - and you talk me out of the dark all the time. The poetry is delightfully written and well phrased. But I don't like you in the dark like that. I am not sure whom you are addressing - if I read it right, it is society in general. If it is a specific human being, let me know and I will come over and clobber him (her) for you!

Take off the boxing gloves Lizzy and take the horseshoes out of them too - it is society not an individual and I'm OK, just a 'passing mood', not 'moody about passing'!
