Does anyone know of a good guide, or perhaps can you write one, about how to start dressing? I mean everything about dressing. Tops, bottoms, dresses, hair, makeup, everything. I want to try it out, but I don't want to look like a guy wearing girl's clothes. Basically, I want to be able to pass (like everyone else ). But I have no idea where to start Also, I know that different generations tend to dress a little differently, so anything angled towards teens and young adults would be appreciated.

No I can't April,,my advice is go to the mall look at the way young women are dressing, there shoes,,do they wear nylons,,or socks,,do they show off their breasts,what kind of make up they wear and what style of hair they have..Check their nail polish and then go to the young women''s clothing section and see what colors they are showing for this season.........then to save a few bucks head on over to Good Will and match what you saw to what's avaiable..............That will get you started hope that helps..Mia

Partial answer - we transgender tend to have a specific body type - taller, more wide shouldered. I found a book to help with that.

The Science of Sexy - Bradley Bayou. It is broken down into body types - gives sections: Your Blessings, Your Curses, What NOT to Wear, What to Wear and The New You. Great! Includes shoes and jewelry too.

There are a number of books on the subject, check Amazon.com.

There is also a website for crossdressers that has a page on the types of clothing that work for each body type.

Please don't ask me what it's address is, it was lost during a battle with my computer.

Heres a raspberry squeezie pop April sorry it took so long...but I just got a fresh batch today...do youself a REAL favor, DO have someone that is professional help purchasing make-up. It is too easy to 'get it wrong' and that is yucky. If done tastefully, with the right tones for your complexion, it will look like you just stole 50% of the Stimulus Package. Less is more is a good rule there...unless you are going for Kabucki...LOL. Fashion wise stay understated and throw in a scarf or jewelry like an ankle bracelet to get it out of dullsville...it's everyday so dress accordingly for you own taste. Just remember that short skirts and high heels will definately attract attention...flats and a above the knee skirt probably won't...but you'll still get appreciative looks...and probably whistles too. Well I have to say that there is no guide on how to "look". A look is about emotions envoked by how you feel wearing something soft, in silk, or on another type of clothing. Without getting to deep, I would say find a person that you find attractive, or that you find exciting. If you were to be in that persons place, how would you feel? Find your own peace and pleasure in the images you love.

"Free"? Well the best way to get items is to tell all your around that your looking to take womans clothes down to a shelter and look to see what others have given you, in woman that is. Afterward PLEASE take them down to a good shelter, there are a many who need clothes.

The mention of not wearing really short skirts is because of what most men do when someone walks by wearing one.

The guys give a closer look - are you ready for extra scrutiny right now?

Go to knee length or just above and no one will look twice unless you are either gorgeous or walking like a Gorilla in a skirt!

Dear April,

From my point of view, there is not really just one way to crossdress. I had to basically through trial and error find the clothes that look right on you. You will quickly learn which brands, sizes, styles work with you and your sense of self. I cannot wear just any thing made for a woman because either it does not look right on me or it is not really age appropriate for me (darn). Simply experiment my dear. At first you will make some mistakes (wrong size, wrong style etc), but that very quickly fades away, and you start getting the right stuff everytime!!

Just sharing my experience of how I started crossdressing.
