laser and patches of shadow?

This a weird thing I've noticed a coupe of times after laser sessions. I've got big, clear, smooth patches now, and little islands of dark hair left in some places. When I look closer, the dark beard shadow behind the hairs, 'in' the skin, is bigger than the few hairs that are left there. It's like the laser is wiping out the hairs but leaving the shadow . . . and then the shadow goes away eventually.

This isn't a change in the pigment of the skin thing -- I've had a little of that too, so I know it's definitely the beard shadow. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this? What do you reckon causes it? Is it dormant hair inside the skin or something?

I have noticed the same thing plus I have some gray that the laser has issues with. And you are exactly right on the dorment hair. I have gathered from my laser tech that your facial haur grows in five to six week cycles. Some folicles go dormant others start growing again. It is good your folicles are so dark since that will make the treatment more effective.

Cheers Alison, I had heard about the cycles thing, it just seemed weird to have these blotches of remaining shadow and i wonder what's going on with them. thankfully they go away eventually but I'm worried sometimes because they seem quite noticeable. No one's said anything but it's making me hesitant now to press on with the moustache again, since I already have some clear areas there, but if the shadow goes in those bits and leaves dark areas in other parts it's going to look weird. Must press on though -- will probably buy some concealer.

I do have some grey and white hairs too but though they're harder to shift they seem to grow slower and don't really show now when I'm shaving every day, not like the dark hairs.
