Hair Growth Patterns: Calling All German's

So, since I've started Testosterone, I've noticed some surprising stuff.

I wasn't expecting anything when I took my measurements, but Angie has kept insisting that she is seeing changes already. I've been shooing her, telling her that's probably not true. But I noticed a lot of changes. Including hair growth.......

I don't have any pictures to show, but I'm getting baby hairs starting to grow below my natural hairline. My upper lip hair is becoming mustache hair. I haven't gotten much around the chin, but baby fluff around my lower sideburns.

We all know that heritage and genetics decide this stuff. Just wondering if there are any others of German descent having lots of hair growth. Angie, my partner (maybe I should start calling her my fiancee), has a friend who's husband is German. When she found out I was German, all she had to say was, "Jules is going to be SOOOO hairy".

And for everyone else, how might your HERITAGE affect hair growth? Many people are all mixed up nowadays, but I'm only German and Russian Hebrew. I know we've talked about this before, but this time I want to hear more about heritage than your mother's father and all that. It's very interesting to me.

(Also, as an update, I put my name change papers in last week, and it appeared for the first time today. I'm psyched.)

I'm half German and half English. I'm not the hairiest beast around, thankfully, but I do have a lot of hair on my legs, chest, back, stomach, arms, and legs. I think my brother is hairier than me. Are Germans supposed to be hairy?

You...are...so...lucky!! I wish so much that I could have hair like you! I don't know where my dad is from, but he is much hairier than most males I know about (except his head; he's going bald there). I have no idea why. He's from Georgia like you, so maybe you're related to him.

Well, Hon.....you do seem to be getting furry a bit....and of course you would know...I have no idea if it has anything to do with German heritage, though...the first thing that I thought of when I read this was my friend Dave Zimmer..German way back and bald as a cue ball....Is he the exception to the rule? IDK...

But, don't look at his head in the sunlight! B)

And seriously....congratz on the name change....that is wonderful news...Good on you!

I don't know about the German but the Russian Jewish group tended to have a lot of hair on the face!

It also depends mostly on your grandfather's hair patern - don't ask me why but it seems to be a more acurate indicator than your father.

I almost forgot - congratulations!

Love ya,

Sally

I'm German, Italian, Russian, and Irish. Considering this, I am remarkably not hairy. My arm and leg hair is pale enough that you can hardly tell it's there from more than a few feet away.

2 words, German and Irish. Mostly German, only about 1/8 Irish, give or take. I have decent hair growth and I'm not on T at all yet... my problem is that I have light brown hair. So all of my body hair just looks the same as my hair color. -_- It sucks :(

My mother was adopted and I have no connection to my biological family on her side. All I have to go on really is heritage. And German women are very hairy. I had quite a bit more hair than most of the girls I knew. There was one other girl in school that was German and also very hairy. As far as males, I'm not so sure. Are Russians hairy, too? Hmmm....Jews in general tend to be very hairy except on their heads, haha!

Deeedo: Although many people I know really are related, because my family isn't from Georgia (I'm a first generation Georgian, w00t), I'm not related to anyone from here. But I could know him and not know it! You never know!

Thanks for the congrats. I'm all giddy. I cut out the newspaper and am laminating it. And I actually saw another person changing from a female name to a male name. As far as I know, there is no support group or resource in my city, and I'm about 2 1/2 hours from the big city. I've been going there for therapy and stuff. I felt good seeing it, in a weird way, you know?

Heritage and genetics are very interesting. I can't wait to hear more.

I'm pretty much English through and through. I'm kinda hairy.

There a cadre of Germans in my department, fresh from Germany. None of them are particularly hairy. One of them has small, delicate hands that have never seen manual labor...but that's besides the point.

I'm half Lebanese and half European mutt. Most of that second half is German. My Lebanese relatives are all very hairy. My dad is frighteningly hairy. Most of the relatives on the European side of the family aren't very hairy, particularly with respect to body or facial hair. I seem to take after the Lebanese side of the family when it comes to hair. Even pre-T, I have a lot of body hair. This scares me. I don't want to be super hairy like my dad. The amount of hair I have right now is just fine, though a bit more facial hair would be nice.

I'm African-American. I'm adopted and I was told that I might be mixed because I have curly hair and I'm really hairy. Most black guys don't have alot of hair. I do Everywhere. I was hairy b4 T and it won't seem to stop growing 2yrs later. My wife recently told me that the hair on my back is starting to get thick, and nowI have to shave every day a year ago it was every three days. I heard that it takes 2-5 yrs to get the full effects of T, so oh well, just call me short, brown, and furry.

I'm pure German; in fact, I was born in Germany. I've been back several times. I've never noticed that Germans are any hairier than the average American from Colorado - except that the shaving practices for women and girls are a bit different. While my dad has a full beard, none of my brothers do (and the youngest is twenty-four). I don't either, and I've been on T for over four years. However, both of my uncles have full beards. All the males in my immediate family have some belly and/or chest hair (as far as I can remember), but no one has whole lot. I do have some shoulder/back hair, but I think I might be the only one in my family with that. My arm hair is really light blond, but my leg hair is a bit darker. My brothers all have darker hair, probably because their head hair is darker.

I'm part German, Italian, Irish and Australian Aboriginal.. I really don't know how to compare my hairiness, etc with others.. I'm a 'Bitser' (bit of everything lol)

Native American here and hair growth on the body is minimal at best, but we do grow head fulls of hair very fast. I have to have a hair cut every 3 weeks. My moms new husband is from Germany and he said it depends on the part of Germany you come from whether or not your a gorilla. Women from the north tend to grow more body hair than those from the south.

Well, I'm over 3/4 German, and everyone in my family has very thick hair (not sure if that has anything to do with it but hey). No male person in my family is bald.

I can't speak for myself though. I have thick hair, but I'm not on testosterone yet so I can't say much about facial hair. Though, at least on my father's side of the family, there hasn't been much luck in the facial hair department.

So I don't really know.

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
