Hair Removal

This is JMO, but I thin that shaving your legs, and whatever else is a waste of time. I would recommend waxing to anyone interested in hair removal (though it is not used on facial hair). SHaving only lasts about a day or two before the itchiness starts. Them, you have a good chance of getting razor burn (those red bumps), and ingrown hairs, not to mention the possibility of cutting yourself (ouch!).

Waxing is a great way to avoid those problems, and it lasts up to 3-4 weeks before any noticable hair regrowth begins. There is normally no itchiness involved, no razor bumps, and if you maintain your skin properly after waxing, there is little chance of getting ingrown hairs, though it can sometimes happen - but rarely, IMO.

You can go to a salon/spa for this if you want to. Sure, its a little expensive, but so worth it. Expect to pay in the range of $60 for a full leg wax, and that will take about 45-50 minutes on average. The cost for other waxing services varies, but you can get a rough idea from this. Eyebrow wax takes like 15 minutes in a good spa, and is only $15 where I go. And they do such a great job. Find a good, reputable spa with experienced esthesticians. You can get it done cheaper in some places, but I find it much nicer to just pay the extra $10-20 and go to a nice, tranquil spa with beautiful decor and so on.

You can also go to a beauty supply store, invest in the necessary materials, and DIY at home. The supplies are really not that expensive, and all you really need is a wax heater ($30-40 for a decent one, up to $120 or so for the best), a high quality wax ($10-14 per 14 oz. can), muslin strips, wooden spatulas to apply the warmed wax with, and some talcum powder. I avoid using the kits that you find in drug stores simply because they are usually contain inferior quality waxes, and use paper strips (the worst, IMO). You heat them in a microwave, but they cool quickly, whether its a roll on type (usually the case for these types of kits), or not. So, you'll find yourself running to the microwave several times before you are through.

If you choose to do it yourself, I would still recommend going to a spa first, just for a few appointments, to observe how the esthestician performs the waxing. There is a method to all this, and its best, and most easily learned by having it done, and observing. This way you will learn to do it properly.

If you choose to do a Brazilian on yourself, then it is most definitely best to go to a spa to have it done, and learn how they do it. If you do any steps incorrectly when it comes to a Brazilian waxing, it can cause some major bruising, and torn layers of skin. And that is not much fun, lol. I've been there, done that, and let me sum it up as this: OUCH!!! And it can take a week or so to improve. Actually, this whole process is less painful then you would think. Sure, there is some degree of pain involved. If I said there isn't, then I would be lying to you. But with Brazilians, the results are also long lasting, and that translates into normally 12-15 days (or a bit longer, depending on how fast your hair grows.) of totally smooth skin 'down there,' with NO itching (YAY!). But I must mention that the wax which is used for Brazilian waxing is different than what is used on your legs, arms, etc (its a 'hard', stripless wax made for this particular use), and the the techniques for application, and removal are different as well. Best to have it done first, then if you want, DIY at home. But again, only use the best, and highest quality products you can find. Gigi makes good waxes and waxing supplies for both 'hard' waxes, and strip waxes like honey wax and more. Expect to pay from $40-50 in a good spa for this service. But again, it is so very worth it. No itching (which is probably the best thing next to the long lasting results). DIY, and it will only cost a few dollars ech time you wax. The biggest thing about Brazilians is the pain factor, I cannot lie. True its not really THAT bad, but yes, it does hurt. Fortunately, the pain only lasts a few seconds for each section of wax removed, but those few seconds can really be on the painful side. I just did my own Brazilian last night. It takes me about an hour or so to do. And now I don't have to worry about it for quite a while again. Nice, baby soft skin is what I have right now 'down there.'

Either way, I still feel waxing is he vest method of hair removal. Sure, laser gets rid of the hair somewhat permanently (from all I have learned about ti, there are still some follow-up treatments from time to time for any slight regrowth which may appear), and it is quite costly. But if thats what you choose to do, then great. Its a great way to go for hair removal. Electrolysis is also costly, and very time consuming. I only need it on my upper lip, and a bit on the chin, so I can get away with half hour appointments every 2-4 weeks, and I'm almost done with it after only 40 or so hours total to date. But I'm a rare case. Normally, this requires a lot more time each session (an hour, two, or even more at about $60 per hour, give or take a little) and also the vast majority of people must go for a long time, and many more hours than I have had to. I've heard of people going - for facial hair removal alone - and being on the table for upwards of three hours ech time, and having to go every week for a few years. I got lucky I guess because I have so little growth to begin with, it has been an easy, and fast process to permanently remove my facial hair. Now leg hair removal is different obviously. Plan on that taking MUCH longer simply because there are so many more hairs to deal with on your legs.

Wel,,thats about all I have to say about this. I've gone on long enough, lol. I hope you found this information useful, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Hi there, this is my first post here but I've got to start somewhere.

Hair removal can be a bit of a pain in all senses of the word. I shave all my body hair every two or three days, and have now become quite expert at it. I used to get razor burn (and there's nothing worse than wanting to look feminine, but ending up looking as if you have some sort of skin disease with angry red marks and spots everywhere). I use a lot of lubrication, baby oil and shaving cream. I also use a Gillete women's razor, which has lubricant and is much better than a normal razor. It is also very important to take your time with the razor strokes and not to overdo it. In the past, I used to go at it very quickly. I take a cold shower to close my skin pores. I'm no expert, but this routine seems to work for me. I get some hair growth on my back and need to get a friend to shave that for me. One of these days I'm going to get some waxing, the problem is the hair has to be long for this to work and I want to have soft feminine skin all the time. For me, hair removal is the main problem in my desire to be feminine: my body already is quite feminine (none of the usual male muscular development) and I have noticeable breasts. When I was attempting to be a "real man" some women who saw me in intimate situations would say that I looked and felt like a woman. Some of them joked that I had bigger breasts than they had. For years, this was a source of some hurt and humiliation for me until I finally understood myself. Now I see it a source of joy and happiness that they think I have the body of a woman, because that's what I want to have. But what gives me even greater pleasure is having men say it too. Anyway, sorry for this long rambling post. Hope I haven't steered the thread too much away from the original topic.
