I had this procedure back in December. Very happy with it. I just had surgery again yesterday to revise it a little bit with a little bit more depth but still no dilating.

Why, thank ewe! The cath is the worst part. I have to go back to Los Angeles tomorrow to get it (and sutures) removed.

Thanks! Everything is healing well. It already looks and feels much more natural. The odd thing is that the labia are much more sensitive even though they weren't touched during the revision. Maybe it's just nerve endings still coming back from the original surgery in December.

I'm having the Cosmetic too.  Been to see the consultant (Tim Larner) (an SRS surgeon I never knew about/of) at Brighton Nuffield.  If all goes well I'm looking at some time in October, just waiting for a phone call to give me the exact date.

Already at the getting items in stage and packing to go...

Hello njm67.   Welcome to the forum!  That's good news that you are close to a surgery date.  I can only surmise you started transition some time ago.  Why don't you post a brief intro?  We'd love to hear from you.

Cheers, Jani

Interesting.  She comes across as not being fully supportive of ZDV as a choice.  There are, as she notes some valid reasons to go with the procedure just as there are reasons to have the neo-vagina created.  For someone choosing ZDV some of the concerns she lists may not be valid, as PIV is ruled out.  She mentions odor and g-spot.

Not to be negative about her because she is a good doctor, but she spent too much time talking about "inexperienced" surgeons.  We all know enough to do proper research in this most important matter as we only get one go at it.

You'd probably get a good answer by asking your surgeon.  Sounds like you're asking about a shallow depth, not zero.

I am considering a zero or shallow depth vaginaplasty due to health issues and am trying to find out how the risks compare to full depth vaginaplasty and orciectomy I have been looking online and not found anything about the risks any help would be appreciated

If you are asking about an Orchiectomy, I recently had one May 6th, and while every surgery has it's risks. this one is the "easiest/less risk" imo. I was on my feet in minutes of waking up. There will be soreness, and that has left as of yesterday. The soreness was always manageable with frozen peas, and Tylenol. Of course sitting and taking it easy is a must. Having an orchie, will give me time to heal and decide on my next step. I also what to see how my body feels, after the orchie, and ive only been on HRT for three months.

You're doing the right thing, research, research research.

Best of luck on your Journey!

No real difference on the overall risks are going to exist since both take place under general anesthesia.

Where the difference will come in is in the healing process where the Cosmetic Vulvaplasty is involved it will be simpler and care somewhat easier since you will not be dilating a neo-vagina.  There is a little less chance of granulation and it is a little easier to keep clean.

Having just had “zero-depth” vaginoplasty, here are some things I’ve learned.

Pain is way less than full-depth.  My pain was never more than 1 on a scale of 0-10, on just Tylenol.  The poor girl in the next bed was at 6-7, and needed narcotics to manage it.  Most of the ladies in the recovery centre had full-depth.  They were all surprised at my low pain level.  Of course, pain response is individual: maybe I just don’t respond much.  But I’m pretty sure the type of surgery plays into it a lot.

Recovery is faster.  A friend of mine had her full-depth procedure two days before I did.  But we are both going home on the same day.

This has been weighing on my mind.  I’m battling with which type I want. Obviously, no decisions can be properly made until I consult with my surgeon and get his opinion.  Choosing between less maintenance, less initial pain, less probable complications and less recovery time vs. ability for future possible penetration is a huge decision.  Great information @KathyLauren

Susan (my wife obviously) and I were talking about this last night (3/18/2020). As I was headed upstairs for the last dilation session of the day, I got up from the couch with a, "I need to go do the thing."

"You choose to do the thing," she replied.

That felt wrong to me, so I thought about it while I was dilating. It's a good time for deep thinking because you can't do much else. Usually I read my kindle. Anyway, I realized that zero-depth wouldn't work for me. The ability to be penetrated, even if I never plan to use it, is important to me to reduce my dysphoria. It feels right and natural to me.

When she came upstairs I told her as much. "Being able to do this makes me feel more like a natural woman and calms me down," I explained. "It really helps with my dysphoria."

"Oh," she said, nodding. "OK then."

That was the end of it.

Naturally, your mileage may vary.

Hugs!

This is my thinking as well. I want to leave the option open to it and I have been leaning in this direction since I made the decision to have surgery.  I just hope I’m a good candidate for both options. We’ll see soon enough.

As you age this may be less important.  I know a couple of older women who had stopped dilating because it was bothersome and took time they didn't want to spend.  To each their own!

I have not read this entire thread yet, but I fully intend to! I am incredibly thankful for this information. I have been absolutely terrified of the idea of a traditional SRS procedure, as I have a phobia of medical operations in general. I am hoping to transition with as little surgical operations as possible. I am currently recovering from having all four of my wisdom teeth removed at the same time a couple days shy of two weeks ago, and it has been a hellish experience for me, but NOTHING compared to the transgender related operations. I kind of feel like a masochistic lunatic for even considering FFS, SRS, VFS, but I think my desire to be my true self outweighs my chronic phobia of medical procedures. I am trying to view it as, like, ripping off a band-aid really, really fast. I just want it to all be over with.

On the bright side, I'm only 25 years old, so if I can get on top of things sooner rather than later, I know I have a much better chance of recovering fairly quickly with little to no risks and/or complications. My body probably still has another good ten years or so before it is no longer superhuman?

Yay! This is super encouraging. ?

My wisdom tooth surgery sounds more painful than that, haha. The first week I had to take multiple ibuprofen mixed with hydrocodone every 6-8 hours to keep the pain in check. Now I am on week number two and have managed to get by with just ibuprofen even 6-8 hours. I take my medication somewhat religiously, too; obsessive compulsive about timing and taking them BEFORE I start feeling pain, because once the pain starts, it is hard to get rid of. ?

This is something else I was pretty conflicted on, but have recently been more clear about. I too worry a bit that I might not feel like a natural woman without the ability to be vaginally penetrated. Talking about it with my mom helped a lot though in my decision-making process. I am terrified of the risks and life-long dilation regimen associated with full-depth vaginoplasty, but at the same time, feared my inability to be penetrated would out me somehow, until my mom informed me that lots of cis-gender women, (herself included) have extremely little to no-depth in their vaginas, and that I should not worry at all about that being somehow a "giveaway" that I am not a biological female.

What helped further in my decision-making process was the discovery that even if I get a partial or even zero depth-vaginoplasty, that does not exclude me from being able to get a vaginal canal later if I decided I just could not live without one. I find that unlikely though, as I am like, 99% gay; I deeply enjoy being penetrated from the rear, and a full-depth vaginoplasty using the disgustingly-above-average length of my penis would probably make anal penetration incredibly dangerous...and I just do not feel I could live in a world without butt-sex. ?

...Still trips me out to think that after I transition...I'll be straight. It feels kind of weird to think of myself as "not being gay someday". ?

What's the most depth you can get with this and not have to dialate?

Back in the 60' and 70', Dr. George Burou in Casablanca and Dr. Emanuel Kontoros in Athens, were performing the surgery without having to dilate aftwrerads, period!

Only durinrg the first month after the surgery, you dilate and afterwards, once every month.

I have done it in Athens on 1977 and as we speak, I have almost 6 inches of depth, I am 62 years old.

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.

I am so glad you enjoy them as well. The help things “stay put” so well. It got me through some of my most dysphoric times.   Wow, I hadn’t heard this at last week’s Zoom meeting if you had mentioned it. That is a huge milestone April Marie.I have no doubt that this confidence will only grow in time. The freedom of being yourself, especially in public, is a wonderful feeling. I am truly happy for you.😘   *Big Congratulatory Hug* Susan R🌷

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?

I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?
