Welcome to the Playground, Swordsman. Two of our Moderators, Bulldog (Mike) and JJ (Johnny) are men of a certain age. I'm sure they'll be along soon to welcome you.

Hey T, welcome aboard. I'm Mike one of the 2 old rascals that Carolyn spoke of :) Not sure where JJ is at right now; might be out hiking in the woods. But anyway, it's alwys nice when another guy joins up as the girls really out number us here. But, it's nice getting pampered by all of these lovely ladies. :score:

Hi T. I'm the Johnny or JJ they're talking about. I know what you mean about the sudden realization this was even possible. Only I was even older-I started transition 5 years ago this week at 63. Not only haven't been mis-gendered in 4 years or so I am even accepted as male in this small conservative Southern mountain town. Life is better than I could have ever imagined before I transitioned.

When I came to my realization I had a million questions and a desperate need to say the things I had kept locked away for so long. If you find yourself feeling the same you have found a great place to ask those questions and talk to others who will not only understand but share their stories and knowledge as well.

Welcome to the forums

Age is not a hinderance or boundary! There are lots of us (both genders) that have started our journey's late in life. I'm in my early 60's. Welcome aboard!

Actually there is a significant difference between men and women in transition age. With women transitioning in the 50s and 60s is common. But with men the common age is 30s through the 40s. There has been speculation about the difference in the way male brains and female brains handle things being the causative factor but there is no real evidence except that the very pronounced difference in demographics exists.

When I was considering transition I did extensive research and could not find another FTM who transitioned in their 60s though there were many MTFs who had or were. Life circumstances had dictated my choice and ultimately it hasn't made a difference.

But the important thing is that, as everyone has said, age is no barrier. In some ways the experience and wisdom gained from living are an asset.

Heya T.........welcome to Laura's Playground. Great site with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable members. I started transitioning a little over a year ago and I am now 61 years young. I can't speak for the others but know if I was a youngster right now, I would be pestering my mother for hormone blockers and T. Even if it didn't happen for me at 12 it is happening now and I am just fine with that. It was the hand I was dealt and I am not going to lament about what could have been. When one finally has the ability to go after a dream they should never say I am too old to do that. Take your excitement of what can be and run with it.

Thank you all for the welcome! I see my Doctor on Feb 17th. I wrote him a 4 page letter and mailed it a couple of days ago. I thought a letter would cover everything better than trying to explain it all in a visit. He is a very kind, compassionate Doc that actually listens to his patients! I am 56 and have always felt male inside. I am so excited to start my journey. I am soooo looking forward to the changes. I am thankful that there is a community here to talk to!

YAY!!!

Hey T, I'm impressed that you sat down and took the time to write a letter to your dr and explaining things. That's good, as he now will have some insight into you and your gender issues. Lets us know how things turned out.

Hi and welcome to the forums Mac.

I'm 68 -soon to be 69-and started T 5 years ago. Unfortunately finances have dictated that I am non op so far. Someday -but meantime it hasn't affect my being correctly gendered. It's mainly a comfort thing for me- mental and physical,

Make yourself at home and feel free to post all you like once you've read the T & C.

Hey Swordsman,

I'm 55 and began my FTM journey this week! I have shared the news with a couple of very close people in my life and plan to tell my grown son today (a little nervous about that). I have loved tapping in to Laura's Playground this week to discover what good company I am in. I have a great therapist who has agreed to work with me, and I think that will be a critical piece of the puzzle.

I find that in my excitement over my own journey, I need to also keep the needs of my loved ones in sight. My partner and I have already had some very challenging discussions where we needed to get really open with some raw emotions about the potential for our future. She needs someone to talk to too... she is also exploring Laura's for support! My son might need something too...

Happy journey, and maybe we'll be able to help each other out along the way with the great support of guys like Johnny and Bulldog!

Welcome Stefan. I'm glad you found us. it sounds as if you've got your feet well placed on your path. Perhaps you might want to post in the introduction forum so more folks can get to know you. Hopefully you'll find the kind of support that i found here. Laura's has made my journey much easier as i find i'm not alone in so many ways.

Hugs,

Charlize

Thanks, Charlize. I hadn't seen the Welcome Forum before, but now I found it and will be sure to post there. I had a great talk with my son, and he was everything I had hoped (and honestly, expected) him to be. The only concern he expressed was that it was going to be hard for me and he didn't want that. We'll navigate through what he will call me as we get further into the process - Momma doesn't seem like it's going to fit! He isn't at all concerned about how his 2 year old daughter will handle it... it will be all she knows of Gram Stef, so no problem :)

I was fairly surprised that the verdict came so quickly, but I guess the evidence was much more persuasive and overwhelming than we were led to believe.  What's disheartening, but not unexpected, is how fast some "leaders" have rushed to discredit the jury and everyone involved in the process.  The jurors, who spent 5 weeks of their time sitting in that courtroom, deserved better than that.  But those "leaders" I mentioned are just following the lead of their "Fearless Leader" in discrediting everything that doesn't go their way.   Carolyn Marie

Welcome! Glad you're here! So happy for you having your wife's support as well as her family & at work! You might look for a transgender support group or PFLAG in your area. I found them very helpful, especially as I began my social transition & going out into the world.   Hugs! Delcina

Welcome to Tran Pulse, @Mwm684.  It would be helpful, but not required, if you could give us a name of some kind that is less awkward than what we currently have.   Glad to hear that things at home and at work are going well for you.  I hope that continues.  Please let us know how we may be of service.   HUGS   Carolyn Marie

Happy Birthday Charlize! You know having met in person I think you may be stretching the truth a bit just to get senior discounts. I would have to say not more than a day over 29. Thank you for sharing this, our journeys intertwine in such a wonderfully delightful way.   Hugs! Delcina

Hello, I was born male but always wished to be female every day of my life. I am currently 48 years old and have an appointment with my GP to start HRT. I came out to my wife about 3 months ago and she has taken the news rather well. I have told my wife’s sister and her family, I have told my immediate supervisor and our facility operations manager at my work. So far all is well. I wish I had the courage to come out sooner but the fear and shame was just too much. I live in southwest Michigan and would really like to make some friends for support eventually. My wife and I are doing great and have no danger in splitting up over my situation. I have been dressing at home with my wife’s help for now. This really helps but I’m looking forward to HRT for the mental benefits as well as the physical benefits down the road.

This hand written stuff is just a few years old, but those math animation graphics are decades old.  Those Flash Math Creativity days.  Lots of good memories from that.  I never read that book, but you know, I was fully in that thing.   I called the collision detection I was coding 4 dimensional math.  My roommate a few weeks ago was describing the fourth dimension as a cube within a cube, connected at the corners and folding in on itself.  I always considered the fourth dimension to be time.  I'm not sure I ever coded a 3 dimensional collision detection, but I realized that you would just do it with the perpendicular plane and then take the closest hit.  My mind certainly isn't in all the details of it right now.  I'm simply enjoying showing some of my work and perhaps it will spark someone else's interest.  I guess my art work doesn't fall into a clean boundary of illustration.  There is a thing about adopting a theme though.  You've got to work with something in an OOP world.

That’s so wonderful! I’m glad to hear that mono-therapy worked for you! But Thank you, I’m def trusting the process and seeing where it leads. 😊     That’s really kind of you to say all of that. It makes me feel better that the plan I’m sticking with is unique to me as every plan each and every one of us is on is unique. And yes, I absolutely echo your sentiments about communicating clearly and openly with my provider if something doesn’t feel right or not working. Very good advice! 😊   I told my provider at the appointment that my plan was to do mono-therapy once my levels were good. She said when that time comes it will definitely be considered, but for now it’s getting my levels where they need to be is her main concern.
