I am going to drink tonight

I celebrated a belated birthday with my son and his wife tonight. I wanted a drink badly, but refrained. Now I'm wondering why I chose not to.

So, cheers. Sweet dreams, Laura's.

Peace

It's because you know that drink can lead to ruin. You had the resolve to overcome the temptation. I applaud you for doing so. :)

Because you want to be able to celebrate birthdays.

Hugs!

Oh Honey, I've worn those shoes. I can't speak for you, but I can share about me on this very day of my four year medallion.

I didn't drink for my daughter's birthday yesterday. I didn't let her down as of birthdays past.

I didn't have to decide whether to lie and claim I didn't drink, or get up for real and take a hug and another one of those bloody twentyfour hour chips!

I won't have to go to meetings and give my name when they ask for anyone in their first thirty days. Then hear them clap for me for a month, making me feel to myself like "yeah, Jody's stupid again!"

Best of all I'm laying on my bed, not smashed, not passed out, writing this so I can say "Great job girlfriend for being clean and sober!" Special hug. JodyAnn

Not a drinker but my life has been deeply affected by them and I am very familiar with the behaviors.

I guess in my view the only person who can say if not taking that drink was worth it. And the only person who can decide is you. No one else has the responsibility for your life but you.

There are many here and IRL who will lend you their support and help you stay strong if that is your choice. But they can't make the choice for you. You know why you didn't drink.

And congratz on making that decision for the dinner. It was a gift you gave your son and yourself. I have too many memories when my mother or my ex didn't make that choice .

Sorry, it appears I misrepresented myself, unintentionally. I didn't drink while out with my son. However I did while I was writing this last night. Hence the title of the thread.

Anyway, thanks for the input all.

Peace .

Yesterday was the 9th birthday of my first grandchild. We had a great party for him on Sunday. I truly enjoyed him and his brother play non the mountains of snow i had made with the front end loaders. I wasn't even remotely thinking of a drink. When he was born i got to the hospital but my addiction had taken me to the point of shaking and i was so unsure of myself that i couldn't hold him in my arms. I was at the point of hallucinating on occasions and they weren't nice little gnomes. 10 days later i walked into the rooms of AA. It wasn't (and at times still isn't) easy. What i can say is that it has never been as bad as it became at the end of my addiction. This disease is like an elevator. I got off a a low floor but i know many who have gotten off both above and below me. Getting off isn't guaranteed. I know that the first drink would most likely take me to the basement with a terrible ride. Sobriety is something we have to work for but the rewards are worth it, the alternatives are insanity and death.

Hugs,

Charlize

Well, you can start a new day any day. If the booze works you don't need a new day.

I've been on both sides of that fence. We love you regardless. Hug. JodyAnn

Thank you.

Hello we are The lake. So called because This One has not determined a name for oneself but has in a way created an environment to try out multiple names as different people. Currently Some of us use she/her pronouns and one uses he/him. We hope to learn more about being transgender and the intricacies involved. Once again it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance and we hope to be of further help in the future.

https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/18-states-sue-biden-administration-transgender-worker-protections-rcna152239     When the R's are in power they love having the EEOC promulgate rules favoring employers.  But when the D's are in power, they just hate it when the EEOC makes or enforces rules that favor employee rights; most especially trans employee rights.  Then it becomes "government overreach."  Funny how that works out.    Carolyn Marie

Wholeheartedly agree.  Whether a compliment is backhand or forehand, I take it gladly.  They are offered rarely enough these days.    Carolyn Marie

Wow, a shop that actually respects a customer's truck?  That seems like a miracle!  My husband does most of his own work, because he really, REALLY hates people who mess with an interior, with grease spots or footprints.  His personal truck is old, but super clean.  And since he's the transportation manager for his company, he's pretty picky about people respecting company equipment.  "Take care of it, and it will take care of you" is the motto.  Drivers should be able to go through a DOT Level 1 inspection without worry.

Literally the word means "hatred of women" and so I don't think that's quite the right description for what you encountered.  Possibly chauvinism?  Or maybe just not wanting to bother somebody he figured wasn't interested or capable of doing the job?  Who knows.   But on the other hand...be glad you're passing

Finally found a site that gives the definition of defemination as a process of loss of feminine characteristics or continued loss of them.  Not a word I would use every day, although I can see where it would be a problem for some who value those feminine characteristics.  Yes I have seen it happen and now get the idea, and yes, not in so many words, but yes I have been up against others who do put down my femininity as being a pseudo female at the most polite and I cannot use the words hear for what it is at the worst.   Online, there is little to do about it except leave and block the people who do it and the places it happens, since it affects you much more heavily and negatively than it does the person doing it, and you need freedom from the stress.  The rules here which our "powers that be", namely the staff say we do not put up with members denying the authentic identity of other members.
