From what I've heard, Daventry has quite a short waiting list compared to other clinics. Hopefully it won't take too long to hear when my appointment will be.

Congratulations :)

If you don't hear anything then call them to find out. With freedom of information clinics have to publish their waiting list times as well so it is possible to get some idea

See this link if you are not already aware http://www.genderclinic.northants.nhs.uk/

Glad I had to see my GP about something this morning. She hadn't realised that she had to do the referral herself and thought the therapist did it. We downloaded the referral form from Daventry GIC's website and filled it out tgere and then. And now the wait begins. Again.

Aaargh! Just spoke to Daventry GIC and they never received my referral. Had to phone my GP to get them to fax it to them and apparently they're having problems with their phone lines and are waiting for an engineer before they can do it.

This is very poor!

They should post it first class if the fax system is not working, or even email if they are using secure systems

The NHS is working rapidly towards electronic based national systems although I know many locations do not use it.

Although hospitals / clinics are now very accountable with having to produce waiting list data etc I think many GP surgeries are pretty a law unto themselves as I have had a pretty poor response to feedback I sent to my local surgery after a failed attempt to get an appointment for tests - they took months to reply :( . I know it is not always their fault as they are underfunded.

If I were you I would keep on top of this and keep pushing, at least until you get a date from the GIC

Well, they finally received my referral this morning. I just spoke to the clinic secretary and she told me their waiting list is currently 9-10 months. :(

Waiting times are long in the NHS for many things but at least you are in the queue

Good luck

This sounds like our local waiting list, for Trans* care, which tends to be 12-18 months. :(

I hope your time passes quickly while waiting for your consult, Shiratori. :friends:

what are you actually waiting for Shiratori? surgery or to see the people about it?

Not sure about there but you surely do not need anyone's permission to live your life as you want.

The waiting lists can be very long and mine was about 8 months (at one point, it was at 3 years but that's been sorted I gather).

The thing I did to fill the time usefully was to make a start on my facial hair removal. It can take many many months to complete and so the sooner you start, the better. It gives you 'little' appointments to look forward to and you know that you are achieving something in the mean time.

Congratz!

May the wait be shorter than expected.

There is actually a lot to do these coming months. You can learn about makeup if you are a makeup kind of girl. Women work on that all their lives. And voice and what clothes you like and where to find them . Mannerisms and socialization actually take years to perfect and this gives you time to have a running start.

All the interior stuff takes even longer. Coming to terms with the past so that it doesn't cast a shadow over the future is also a long process .There is actually a whole lot to be doing. The exterior is the least of it all.

Well, it turns out that due to everyone finding out that Daventry GIC having the shortest waiting list in the country had the inevitable effect and it would seem that their waiting list is now 16 months so despite being referred 13 months ago I won't have my first appointment until late summer. :(

However...

I received this letter today:

Wonderful!  It could of course been sooner but at least it's not far off!   Time goes fast.

We don't have anything quite like that here but I wish we would. Here, its find a Psych, get letter of approval for hrt after 16 month wait for appointment, find an Endo to start HRT, work out yourself what you need as far as hair removal voice, etc etc and pay for it, again back to the Psych for more letters so they will give you GRS at your expense.

Hope you have a good experience and don't listen to me, I grumble too much :D

Wow, I guess it’s the dat to be in trouble.  I’ve been hit twice by the ASM today and it’s my day off.  Why didn’t you, followed latter with a where is the.  Made me realize that I do t want to continue working long enough to pay for it. I guess I’ll just to have to stick with my 20 year old car for now.   I suppose sooner or later only one of us won’t be able to drive anymore.  Since I am older you might think it would be me but at this time i am the one that does all the driving except when she goes to church or the store when I’m at work.  She hasn’t driven anywhere since February and hasn’t driven more than 10 miles in perhaps a year.  Yet the “good” car was purchased for her not for me because she couldn’t drive the Jeep which we bought strictly for her because she wanted it.  But it turned out I was the one that really liked it.  Can’t win.

Good morning :)   I have coffee today, but the cup keeps leaking (I guess the cap isn't able to fully seal or something), so I keep having to wipe up the sides lol   Almost finished all my missing work for school, which means if I do a bit more work, I should be out of trouble with my parents (not even that bad of trouble compared to when I was younger, more just an annoyance haha)

Sending good thoughts for you, Raine.

Good morning 😘   Finished packing up my kitchen and pantry for fumigation today. I also modified my backpack to make it day-centre compliant.  I was able to get almost 2 hrs sleep last night, so I'll survive. 😑

I'll be going to some Pride events as a spectator.  Maybe marching in a parade if they have open participation.    The event we'd prefer to go to is held in a small town with a population of less than 600.  They have a parade through all three blocks of their downtown area.  Unfortunately, this year it is on the same day as a memorial service for a friend who passed away this winter, so we'll have to miss it.  So our second choice is a larger town, population about 9000, a bit farther away.    And we are keeping our eyes open for other events in the general area as they are announced.   I dress a bit flashier than normal, with some trans bling, such as rainbow or trans flag earrings, a trans symbol pendant, and a handheld trans flag to wave.  Political sentiment is turning against us, but public sentiment here is still strongly on our side, so getting out and showing the flag, both literally and figuratively, is important.

I had that going on with my last two partners who were 20 years older than me.  One of them looked older for her age as well.  I remember a couple times being in the grocery store a decade ago and having people ask "can I help you ladies with something?" and then I'd turn around with my red beard.  Well before I started transitioning, but my partner knew I was trans back then.   I struggle with this as well.  My music and political career can have a masculine edge to it that I don't like.  It's been really frustrating lately.  I don't like pushing myself on others or telling people what to do.  I've been running a website for 25 years and have virtually never tried to promote it or even look at any analytics.  I don't want to push it on anyone.  I put what I have on it and make it publicly available.  It's part of my production process.  It keeps me sane and if someone else can find it useful, then I'm happy to share.

I'm curious, but then if I am true to myself, I have a hard time being in crowds.  I love hearing great music, but being in an audience is such a turnoff for me that I don't go to concerts or bars.  I'm just very much a producer.  I actually like doing the dishes more than going to concerts because it's an active thing.
