Opinion: What Life as a Trans Woman Taught Me About Progressives.

This article and the ones found at the bottom of the page certainly give an"educated" "conservative" voice to the debate about trans* women in society as unpleasant and thought out as they may be they lack all understanding and point to so many non issues as they turn trans* people into second class, mentally ill people. Pity but understandable, after all we are gaining some actual acceptance by the society as a whole.

Well, Charlize... it IS "the federal".

As expected... slanted a bit, but an interesting perspective certainly. I don't, nor have I ever fancied myself a "liberal", and some people don't understand... me being trans and all. I've always thought myself a "realist"... with no party affiliation.

I read some of the additional articles as well, (since I was awake 2 hours early :\....but found them flawed in logic and void of reason. One stated that the "Trans-agenda" was to eliminate gender within the law... and you would have no choice".... Seriously? What exactly is wrong with all people (men, women, or however you identify) to be treated exactly the same under the law?

Seems like a good thing to me. End of rant.

Have a great day everyone

I agree with almost everything that he said in this article, but I don't believe being transgender is a choice. Still, the article makes me think about what I've been feeling recently and why I've been doing this.

Like Carolyn, I found his point of view interesting. While I don't believe that TG is a choice, we DO have the individual choice to closet it on through to full transition. I also follow his points regarding liberals/progressives. But I think the same points apply to those we label as conservative and all points in between. In the end, we have to keep fighting for our rights and to be treated as people, not 2nd class.

He's a comedian but I am not laughing. Highly loaded wording is not a way to my brain if he is trying to make a point.

I don't see much worth reading here, but rather a collection of personal observations that says nothing much about anything except the author himself. He identifies as a cross-dresser ("a six-foot-five man in a cheap synthetic wig"), something not contradicted by the relative ease with which he switches back to his male identity and by the fact that he sees being trans as a choice (he takes liberals to task for claiming he said all trans identities are a choice, then doubles down by insisting that we do have a choice). He assumes that all liberals have a monolithic mindset (pretty much what liberals think about conservatives, IMO) and seems honestly startled when some progressives criticize his racism but exhibit inconsistencies themselves, such as failing to call out transphobic or homophobic comments by others or being vulgar and insulting to those who disagree with them (both human failings not unique to liberals). The entire article is full of sloppy thinking about both trans identities and leftists/liberals and, in the end, his decision to return to life as a man (a choice I certainly don't begrudge him if that's what he wants) says nothing significant about either, no matter how much he'd like it to.

Sorry, I didn't even make it through all of his drivel. Proving to me he is a clod with all of his own notions. I hope he doesn't hold himself out as an expert. If I were to self identify, emphasis on self, I would call myself a very conservative liberal. We have clearly never worn or never will, the same dress.

I am sorry for your struggles. I cannot empathize, but I can surely sympathize. I wish only the best for you!

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Welcome to the party, M.A.     Sounds chaotic haha, I can confidently say that living with only two children the same age is stressful enough, much less three!

Things hit the fan today. I was reminded that "this is not a gender fluid establishment."   I had changed my preferred name and gender at the hospital on their app. My x-ray report came in with my preferred name and gender. It was not appreciated by the centre. 😬
