Any way to get rid of them or stop them from occurring as much?I know anti-androgens are supposed to help, but I can't get those right now. Is there something else? Or does anyone know of any way to increase your self control of it?

I know I can simply not think about girls, but I get erections when thinking about other things too. Sometime sit's completely random, and I don't even know why I have one. Anyone else experience this?

April - you were so SHY when you started posting

Erections are part of the boy - man lifestyle and go on and on until you really feel like you are a life support system for a penis.

To get rid of them, hummm... you can't other than the obvious way. If you DO get in therapy, and DO find you are gender dysphoric and DO opt for HRT, that will finally eliminate them, usually.

The other way I guess is to think of the most disgusting sex partner possible. Usually, this will ... hummm... relieve the pressure. I think of Hilary Clinton.

Hope this helps

(OF COURSE IT DOESN'T HELP - Ditzy Lizzy!)

Immersing yourself in thought can help. Try to recite the entire plotline of a book or movie from beginning to end. Or anything related to math or spatial order, or like a schedule of your daily activities and what order to do them in. Any concentrated and intense line of thinking brings the blood back up the the brain where it belongs!

Well, I tend to become more like myself after I get used to people, but I don't think I really changed on here since my identity is still safely anonymous. (I just butchered a line from Star Wars).

Yeah, Icky Clinton could possibly help, but the problem is, not all erections are sexual. And in that weird, and unfortunately more common case, I don't think she will help at all.

The only time I get them anymore is in my sleep.

Boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sleep is supposed to be my recess.

The only thing that povides piece of mind here is that I most always remember my dreams...

and that my male function (or "Male Function"................prob. gonna ******** here) <

has nothing to do with sex, or thoughts of which in my dreams, which are seldom to never.

By the way, why was the word male function deleted from one of my post when it was permitted as title to this thread????????????????????????????????????

I'd rilly like to know.

OK, OK, Gosh April!!

What angst you have!! You talk about erections like it is a bad thing!! Simmer down dear!! You have the biological body that your were born with, there is no shame in that!! Along with your biological body is all of the normal reactions!! This is good. Relax my dear, feeling aroused is absolutely normal, and it does not change when you are female!! Being transgendered does not mean you are not sexual!! If you completely transition, you will still be aroused (for the most part) by what arouses you now!! Relax!!

April!! Loosen up for yor own good!!

When I was young I asked a friend what to do against it and he told me to hit him with a book 3 or 4 times if it happens so that he knows after a while who the boss is, but I believe this won't help.

Kidding aside

As Lizzy wrote, they are a part of you.

They come and go and and there is not really something what you can do - except meds or removing the testis.

Really often you get one and you don't know why, it has to happen because it is a natural body function. There is no need for sexual fantasies. It is just a sign that everything is ok.

Sometimes and I really know that, it happens when you don't need it. In the bus, swimming pool (not the best place), laying in the sun and so on, but all you can do is to ignore it or try to think of something funny or of the most disgusting person you can imagine - like Lizzy wrote.

You are 17 and when you get older it gets less, but it never goes away completely.

Not really helpful, but you are not alone with this problem.

I have no idea, Amie

And it looks like it happened in this one too. (I'll check eith someone more in the know on the word filter brogram - I don't understand how it works at all.)

I have to admit that erections are a bit of a problem when I am driving, just because of the seat belt placement - ans I always worry a bit just before I get out of my car especialy on my way to my therapists office.

I don't remember the last time I had one. I remember talking about this with my Psychiatrist and him looking rather puzzled when I said I did not remember the last time I had one. He then went on to ask If It was guys or girls that I fancied. I remember saying that at the present time I did not feel like I was interested in either, but If I had to choose it would probably be Girls although I consider myself Bi.

His reply was, how can you be transsexual if you don't really fancy boys. Needless to say I have not see him since.

Maybe you are trying to tell us that people are your problem! :D

I hope you didn't actually pay this person. :o

The old joke response was to think about baseball, but if you are attracted to men then the thought of all of those athletes with those tight pants and all of the close shots of the catcher flashing --- the signals to the pitcher, not just flashing - although it could improve the ratings if -- nevermind!

The truth is not all erections are caused by sexual thoughts some just occur and others are caused by clothing that binds then when you move, well ----

Sally

Fortunately this was the psychologist that I was referred to as a result of being admitted to hospital after a suicide attempt so it was under the NHS (National Health Service) and I did not have to pay for this. I still am under the NHS but they take very little notice of my Gender issues and just think I am psychotic.

Nope, only anti-androgens, or an orchiectomy, will do the trick.

Spontaneous erections are the bodies way of keeping the pump primed. You don't have to think about anything for them to happen, ever heard of "morning wood"? Anywho, after you are on anti-androgens and therapeutic levels of estrogen (an anti-androgen itself!) those erections will become less frequent and may even disappear altogether. They will also become less firm and orgasm will become more elusive. You will understand what I mean by "keeping the pump primed" when one day you have a full erection because it will HURT! It's painful because the tissue hasn't been getting it's normal exercise. So you see spontaneous erections have a purpose in men. You are going to have to find a way to deal with this unpleasant experience for now. I can suggest a couple coping strategies:

1. Realize that when you get to your goal (SRS) that tissue will be needed. I referred to it as my "donor material".

2. Realize that this situation is temporary.

3. Turn the negative into a positive. Let it inspire you to work harder to reach your goal faster.

4. This ones a bit silly, but...... imagine that it isn't a pen*s, but an enlarged clitoris. Women get erections too you know! You just need clitoral reduction surgery (CRS). :D

Hope this helps.

April.....

Leah is 100% on this! Very good advice as usual....

Since I've been on estrogen and anti-androgens, it has completely stopped for me...even if I try....

and I'm good with that. As Leah says...now it's just donor material....

It is a totally natural thing for your body to do at your age.

Hi, Amanda.  Your story sounds quite familiar, though my pesky body part didn't need the attention of a urologist.  You are in good company here!

Oops.  Sorry, @AmandaJoy, I see you have already posted an introduction.

Hi, @AmandaJoy.  Welcome to Trans Pulse.  Be sure to check out the various forums and join in any threads that interest you.  We'd love to read all about you in the Introductions forum.   -----   I started programming in Dartmouth Basic in high school back in the early 1970s.  I did my degree in Computer Science.  After a brief stint in the "government flying club" (RCAF), I worked as a programmer-analyst and systems analyst for about 25 years.    I am retired now, but I still enjoy programming.  I write a lot of the code for my astrophotography observatory.

WOW HAS IT BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE UPDATED!!! Welp, I'm updating now, and it's been a lot of changes.  1. My mom is starting to come around a little (I think). She does refer to me more as her child now, and even offered to help me cut my hair so I think we're making a little progress. I'm still planning on going on T later and I'm gonna start saving up to buy trans tape (I can't wear binders because I have GERD), so hopefully the progress stays. My dad, sibling, friends, and my paternal grandparents have all been super supportive and I'm really lucky for that. My sibling also goes out of their way to introduce me as their brother and it makes me so happy :D 2. I've been socializing a lot more! Mostly on Discord, but I've made some new friends and I'm really happy about that!  3. I'm on birth control! I still need to go to the gyno but my GP got me on the depo shot and it's been working for me so far! My dysphoria has gone through a lot of ups and downs, especially around periods, but that source is pretty much gone now and I feel way better. I do have more dysphoria centered around my chest now but that's pretty easily fixed with baggy shirts most of the time.  4. I know 100% now that I'm hoping for a uterine ablation (cauterizing the uterine tissue so it doesn't grow) at some point in the future and it's likely something I'll have to save up for but from my research it's a lot less invasive and safer than a hysterectomy so I definitely recommend it if people are able to access it. I also know that after that, I want to save up for a reduction to combat the chest dysphoria, and I still like having it sometimes so I'll keep a bit of it (I'm shooting for an A cup, I'm a C cup currently).  5. I've been writing more and I've even got some ideas for art projects! I also got an Archive of Our Own account where I post my finished writing, and I'm starting a book project at my mom's urging (she said she wanted that as her Christmas present so I'm gonna try, might not get it done this year though). I haven't gotten to write much lately but I'm hoping to change that this month.  And finally, 6. I'm gonna be a college junior and I have a career path to pursue! I'm gonna be an archivist, hopefully working for a museum (not too specific on where, I just like museums).  So yeah, a lot of stuff has happened and it's been pretty good!

Around here, a culturally-appropriate gender-neutral form of address is either "dear" or "hun".  It tends to be mostly women who use those, though I did have a man address me as "dear" in a store today.    It could be startling for a come-ffrom-away to hear themselves being addressed that way, but, locally, it is considered a friendly, not particularly creepy, gender-neutral way to address someone.
