A lot of fuss is being made about the "danger" involved in people using the rest room that matches the gender they identify with. I thought about this the other night on my most recent foray out and about dressed as Ashleigh. What about the danger that confronts those of us dressed according to the gender we identify with when we are forced to use the rest room that matches our birth gender? What would have happened if I suddenly found myself in need of a rest room and there were no "family" facilities available? Do I take the chance and use the men's room as would be required by law, or do I risk being caught using the ladies? That, I believe, raises the danger level to a deqree that far outweighs any other.

Just my 2 cents worth on the topic.

Ashleigh, it's my belief that there's a certain type of person who thinks we deserve whatever happens to us because we're engaging in "behavior" that's not "normal".

All the supposed concern for the safety of people in restrooms goes out the window when it's the transgender individual who's at risk.

Kenna is right, here is a quote from a SC lawmaker and "their" mind set, that state's hearings are today on the issue.

“If a (small percentage) of the population wants to be something that a majority of the population thinks is strange and abnormal, that’s their business,” he said. “You can’t force people to accept something like that.”

It's either or logic, you either be something we accept, or we reject you, and we will pass laws to make your life more uncomfortable, in the hopes you will simply go away. As much as the religious right and their politician puppets would like, trans is not going away, and if anything the movement is growing. This sets up the challenges, the battles waged, the social war is on, people are gonna get hurt or die before it gets better, there will be law suits, this will be painful. Eventually the federal government will have to intervene at multiple levels. Even then the damage is already done.

Promoting tolerance to reduce fear seems the answer, I know many are trying, it's up to all of us, everyday in real life, be the best we can be, rise above.

Ashleigh you hit the nail on the head:

"What about the danger that confronts those of us dressed according to the gender we identify with when we are forced to use the rest room that matches our birth gender?"

That is precisely the real issue! It puts Transgender people at great risk, when there was little to no risk to cis-gender regarding these bathroom bills ! The religious right knew dar-n well the real truth to their hate bill's they've pushed thru!

And Kenna you also hit it!

"Ashleigh, it's my belief that there's a certain type of person who thinks we deserve whatever happens to us because we're engaging in "behavior" that's not "normal".

I truly believe these bills being introduced nationwide are meant to drive us/our "deviant behavior" (as one holier than thou Harvard graduate described being transgender put it) underground by putting us at risk, and acting as a deterrent to our expression of who we identify as.....

These religious zealots see this as another battlefront to combat tolerance of LGBTQ rights!

Pure and simple.

IMHO, and I'm sticking to it.
