How does this type of clip on earring work?

I was recently browsing Ebay for clip on earrings, and I saw a type that I just can't figure out. Here's an example of the type: How does this work? It seems to me that the pin just completes the circle.

Sorry to say this, but that type is for pierced ears. The fine wire goes through the pierced hole in your ear lobe. I have two ear piercings and love that style, but they only "Clip" after the wire goes in and comes out the other side. I hope you haven't bought them yet, or love them and decide to go for the "hole thing". I actually had my piercings done several years before I came out and only a few people gave me any lip on it.

I have found that advertisers often show the incorrect item. On one occasion when I ordered clip on earrings I was supplied with ones for pierced ears. When I complained they said I could keep the incorrect items, refunded my payment but could not supply the correct ones. I wonder if they ever existed!

Yes, those are for pierced earlobes. I have one like it (gold, fairly small loop) as only my left ear is pierced for .. er ... 30 years and a silver one, while still in denial. Now that I am no longer in denial I am getting my other ear pierced as well so I can wear proper studs :-)

The clasp that holds the wire could be considered a form of clip I think the ad feel victim to poor Chinese translation
