I'm glad he was convicted for that, it looks like he didn't get off any easier- not that I know how the system works. I can't believe someone tried to say calling a woman "it" and saying that killing anyone who isn't straight is a-ok was a joke.

Life in Prison without Parole and possibly the death sentence...but that is doubtful the state House of Representatives just past abolishment of the death penalty, next to the State Senate.....and then the governor's office for his signature.....but definitely life in Maximum Security......in Canon City.......

Thank the Lord! And now - maybe - all those who wrote those hateful comments, just maybe, will reevaluate how they reacted.

Every now and then we get it right, too late but at least it is right.

Everyone must remain aware, these people are every where and they don't see anything wrong with eleminating someone who isn't just like them.

What's so disturbing is some blogs i'm reading that feel this guy got a raw deal. Some see him as a hero who got rid of another transgender person. I don't know how you fight that.

Angie Zapata and her death have been the subject of many topics around here lately... It makes one think.

I don't believe that her killer actually thought he was doing something wrong... especially when he referred to her as an IT... dehumanizing a person in that way as justifying the taking of that life. There's got to be a better punishment than what he got, more fitting for the crime he committed.

Let's send our Wishes of well to the family of Angie Zapata... May she be granted the peace and love and happiness in her next life...

You fight it with Knowledge and passion... Because Arrogance, stupidity and Ignorance passed of as knowledge is no substitute for the real thing. We need Role models to stand up and present to the world that WE ARE PEOPLE, NOT THINGS.... to put faces and names to Transgender people and be recognized as Human individuals....

I'm betting that those people who wrote those blogs, praising him as a hero, were ignorant, religious freaks* who barely graduated High school (if they did at all), who subscribe to all the hate/white power philosophies out there.

The guy that killed her didn't get a raw deal... He got what he deserved. He killed a human being and has to pay the consequences...

Religious Freak*= an individual so wrapped up in their religion and judging things wrong that they miss the message of brotherhood, tolerance and love in most religions to the point that are hypocritical bigots.

We can write letters to the newspapers when somehing like this happens. They printed mine and i beleive someone else here at Lura's wrote. The key is to be irate, but calm and reasonable. I think mine were printed because I held my nose and lied, telling the press I thought they did a rather decent job of reporting.

I also had to be careful not to read the other letters too much - a bunch of sick people! And they say 'we' are the abomination!
