I'm not surprised that they found some bargains. I know i have rarely gotten any more expensive products. Most of what i have came from the supermarket or drug store. My budget keeps me away from some of the others.

Hugs,

Being on a budget since I went full time, I use drug store brands. That's NOT however to say that I don't have a plastic bin full of makeup that simply didn't work, including $20 containers of concealer. Oh lord, what to do with that junk?

Loreal, Maybelline, end even an "elf" primer and NYC lip stain. Sadly, I have had terrible products from every one of these companies.

But I make it work with tweeking and application. I long to one day be back making good money so I can afford Sephora.

Now that I only use make-up about 3 days a week, and very little when I do (old lady privilege) this was fun to see with the young in heart and body having fun. Over the years I have done the "dime store / drug store" routine and can't say I felt the same as the young ladies in this piece (it does not say any of them were Trans*) but I did notice a change in how some worked better after I began HRT. I do enjoy the fact that now I can go into Ulta and Sephora or yes, even MAC and just smile as their make up people "try out" the things on me. I hate to think how much I have thrown out over the years, but yes it has a shelf life, and a "what was I thinking when I bought that" life as well.

Cheap makeup works just as well including professional stuff like Bill Nye. In the long run, finding a good artist to pick the products, shades and design a look for you, is the cheapest solution. Crossdressing shops either do it or know artists who do. Many TG groups have or know people who know how to do it. Keep in mind that makeup to give a passing look is much different than what most women wear and it takes skill to get the best look.

Clair, In the DC area, Elizabeth Taylor has been helping cross dressers and trans folk with their make up. I took an initial class with her and then a few make-up parties. For me, it was well worth it to learn the ins and outs of make-up before spending a lot of money on cosmetics I wouldn't use. Especially helpful in finding the right foundation and concealer colors to match your skin.

Ive tried a pretty wide range of cosmetics, from the high end stuff to the more average stuff at walmart. (Sorry but Covergirl/loreal/etc is not high end it's mid range) I generally avoid the walmart stuff aside from maybe a few of their lipstains.. So no I would never scour the cheapy dollarstore stuff.. The pigmentation is already terrible in the stuff you can buy at walmart, and cheap eyeliner is always a disaster waiting to happen.. So Yeah no... If I am going to invest in cosmetic I will go for quality over quantity any day of the week.

In my earlier days I accumulated quite a bit as I tried this and that but now have settled for a simpler selection. I have not bought much in high end things as they are very expensive, but also tend to avoid very cheap as Sarah says - the pigmentation is poor. I tend to use quite a few Sleek products these days (not sure if they are available in the US). They are reasonable in price.

Nope.  I live in a rural area.  Pride events are for city folks.  The normally quiet LGBTQ+ club kind of changes atmosphere during that time, and things get a bit political.  As a non-Democrat, I avoid it.

For me, definitely the size thing.  I'm 5'4" on a good day, and 100lbs.  I can pass as a teenage boy, but never for my real mid-30s age.  And since my husband looks older than his age, I'm often assumed to be his kid.  Or folks think there's something illegal going on.      Also, my lack of the typical aggressive "masculine" demeanor.  I don't really desire the typical masculine social role, nor could I do it even if I tried really hard.  I'm usually quiet and kind of timid.

I am sorry for your struggles. I cannot empathize, but I can surely sympathize. I wish only the best for you!

No, they are the only provider of services I need an my area. 😑

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

Anyone play war and order on their phones?
    • violet r
I can relate.  I have always played a female character when given the opportunity. Not really and reason except I just alway pick them since I was young

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Welcome to the party, M.A.     Sounds chaotic haha, I can confidently say that living with only two children the same age is stressful enough, much less three!
