Why do they matter?

What’s the matter with me?

When other people look,

what do they see that lets

them think it’s okay to

frown or smile openly?

Why do I let them get to me?

If I were typically pretty,

would I feel differently?

Do I need someone to

say to me you’re sexy

while I’m dressed as me?

Are these thoughts only

impediments to my

ability to be happy?

Don’t tell me.

I know the answers

can only, truly, come

from my own journey.

So I will go on

learning the art of

being—blindly—me

I like that.  I know very pretty women who try to hide their looks as they hate being stared at.  Acceptance is the best!

Very nice!  And Charlize, I had a girlfriend like that.  I thought she was truly very pretty but she didn't see it.  Others sure did and it used to really bother her.

I'm glad you liked it, and it's good to know that everyone, regardless of their gender or looks, goes through the same battle for self-acceptance and feeling "comfortable" in their own skin. It doesn't make the battle any easier, but it does make it more bearable.

At times i have certainly felt bearable was the best i could hope for.  Acceptance eventually doers come if we are blessed by time and a higher power.
