Fears a reality

So I don't smoke in the house, one of my biggest fears is locking myself out of the house while I step out. I have an extreme habit of locking the door behind me when I leave. Well tonight while in full dress of wig, make up, leggings and heels I locked myself out. I live in the upper Midwest so after rain and snow my driveway is an absolute ice skating rink. Add heels to the equation and it's 3X as bad. Luckily I left my vehicle unlocked and had a spare key in it but was nearly caught by a passerby. Lesson learned I hope. I can't but lol as I slip slides down the icy drive retrieved the key and seemed like a mountain climber digging my heels in as I climbed the icy slope. Now time to go cover my tracks so no visitors see the heel spike marks....I'm such a dumb blonde LOL. Hope everyone else is having a good night

Wow! That's one of my fears too. I probably check the doors 3 or 4 times before I go out to have a cigarette. Even then I still wonder. So, luckily I haven't locked myself out yet.

Hugs, ?

I do not have the dangerous cold weather here much, but I did learn many many years ago to have the right footwear on when I went outdoors for any reason.  I would not worry about spike tracks in slush though, if it is that cold, no one is going to be looking to see what you are up to.  After years of sneaking outdoors, I finally came out to my neighbors, and found out the absolute worst, and I mean really worst thing from them, yes, in all that time they had never noticed what I was doing!  :omg: They were completely accepting because we had been good neighbors all those years.  I do however have a spare set of keys in a "secret spot".

I sometimes worry about getting back in as well. It's not so much about getting caught by the neighbours as they are Ok with things (if fact if I needed to I could ask their help). I think the only issue with footwear is that I am usually barefoot (or slippers) inside the house and just tend to put on sandals when popping outside. Better than heels but not for long in subzero weather.

Being in a nominally safe area I don't lock the door when popping outside and it is not self locking so I should be Ok. My stepson has a set of keys (as does my partner) but there would be a wait.

Oh my gosh! Girl, why didn't you leave the door slightly cracked? Or turn the deadbolt and close the door until the deadbolt hit the frame?

I am also paranoid about locking myself out when venturing out dressed. I have never actually done it, but the fear is always there. I find myself triple checking doors before heading out.  I go out of the house dressed to get the paper, or walk in the back garden daily, so the odds are stacking against me that I will eventually make that mistake.  I also double and triple check for motel room keys whenever I go out when I'm traveling.

Here's hoping for a resolution as simple as yours when it does happen.

I am so scared of locking myself out I only lock the door from the outside with a key. I also have a spare outside. Nice save.
