Phone Gendering Error Payback

Well, I may have solved one problem today with phone cold calls from sales folk who address me with my former name and pronouns.

Male voice caller: "MR. Mitchell, I am calling from XXX Inc

Me: Excuse me dear, but you are talking to (a woman) {-- I did not get the words "to a woman" out!}

MVC: Ahhh <almost a scream> You called me "dear"!!! <Phone slammed down>

He thought a man was calling him "dear" the way it sounded. Sometimes homophobia in some people may be useful for us.  Alas, it is well and alive.

My usual reply to those calls is "Sorry he no longer lives here".  I love it when they ask if i have a forwarding address.  "Sorry he is no longer with us"  finishes the conversation and i'm off their list.

"Dear and honey" are great as well, especially with homophobes.

No longer with us. Hehe. I can laugh today, but not yesterday. I was in the bedroom doing something when she came running in crying, telling me she knows what's wrong.

Just received another "ma'am" this morning from a vendor on the phone, that does not know me. 

We leave so many traces of our old selves in computers, it's like an old ghost that appears from time to time.

Fortunately do not receive many sales or robo callers here, been on "do not call list" for years.

Anything worth a darn these days goes to her..
